Training Camp: Scott Wedgewood (September 21, 2014)

Scott Wedgewood is no stranger to the hallways of Prudential Center, where the New Jersey Devils are currently holding their Training Camp in preparation for the 2014-15 season. Wedgewood, a third round pick during the 2010 NHL Draft, is participating in his fourth camp.

“For these now, I know everybody. You have your own little inside jokes of things that have happened in the past. Coming in for this, you are playing for a job and it’s now become a business. I’m still loving the game and still love being around the guys. For me, it’s just come in, get my work done, improve with everything I can pick up, learn and take it all back to where ever they put me.”

With the departure of long-time Devil Martin Brodeur, Wedgewood is trying to impress management and the coaching staff that he is capable of making the jump to the NHL. The Devils have five other goaltenders in camp: Cory Schneider, Scott Clemmenson, Keith Kinkaid, Maxime Clermont and Anthony Brodeur.

“For me, it’s just showing what I can do and make their decision as hard as possible. Obvisouly, they’ve never been in this situation where they haven’t had two set guys, so it’s its a bit of a change for me Keith and Clemmensen is here now. It will be a good, friendly battle. I’ll put my best foot forward and get a position somewhere that will help me out.”

In his first full season in the AHL last year, Wedgewood went 16-14-3 with a 2.39 goals-against average, an .899 save percentage and four shutouts.
