“We Needed Redemption” | Buffalo Sabres Coach Don Granato After Win Against Calgary Flames
Don you talked earlier about Alex and Tage and the work they’ve been put in was that exactly what you were talking about on the winning goal I thought they had uh a great game and we needed them to have a great game JJ was also very
Good uh with them uh petka and obviously a big goal in the third period just playing simple put a puck behind and pressure him and um through that pressure JJ’s wide open in front of the net so uh nice to see and obviously uh the result was what we wanted with them
Being on the second night of a back toback was that the message going to the third just keep it simple try to wear them down and try to earn your offense uh absolutely we knew um you know we we were sloppy the other night in Edmonton
Uh I think everybody in that locker room knew it and you know we didn’t protect Opie the way we we know how to and and we got careless in the end um so we needed uh a little Redemption to to play the right way uh you know through 60
Minutes and I thought thought we did that uh and it was obviously a very very challenging game game it’s good to see Payton score especially in this building with the people I’m sure he had in attendance it is and I like the way he scored uh you know Skinner was there to
Support and uh slashed across the rink um Rusk got an assist on the play uh so you know and he shot the puck with authority he leaned into it and uh very nice to see any update on styling we saw him leave the game shortly late in the
Third yeah he’s gonna take a few stitches but he’ll he’s good so that’s the report I got um so should be should be fine now you switched up the pairs and put darene with Yoki again you know what what did you see what kind of led
To just that that look later in the game you know they were so good together uh a couple weeks ago even and and just familiarity um and I thought that uh you know bo bo was well just something you know I didn’t like our second period um
And was looking for something you know any tweak we can make and you know you know those guys are familiar and I think uh you know Bo and Bo and uh one lit up to play together a little bit too so so it was nice nice to have those options
Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato spoke with the media after the team’s 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on March 24, 2024.

Too late Donny. The Sabres play great when there is nothing to play for. Just a really soft fragile team.
That game looked like it was won on skill rather than will. Dont get me wrong there were definitely guys working their ass off but you need the whole team going balls to wall if your gonna be successful.
It's amazing that only 5 NHL coaches have been in their jobs longer than Don Granato. Among those 5 there are multiple (4) Stanley Cup victories. The Sabres have a losing record under Granato and have never made the playoffs with him as head coach. I'm just curious why complete failure in virtually every metric has no bearing on the job status of Buffalo's head coach?
Challenging game? I must have watched a different game bc the one I watched either team looked like they could care less kinda like the owners of this franchise. The way Terry cheap out on everything I guess it’s a write off
Redemption? Get redemption for a flop of a season and win the rest of the games.
we didnt need redemption we needed 10 more wins than we have right now so we arent golfing in april again
