The Calgary Flames have traded defenceman Chris Tanev to the Dallas Stars for prospect Artem Grushnikov, a 2024 second-round NHL draft pick, and a conditional 2026 third-round pick in a three-way deal involving the New Jersey Devils and what will the Leafs do now that Tanev is off the board. My faves for Leafs have been in alphabetical order… Dumba, Larsson and Peeke. Backup plan would be Lyubushkin. If Treliving fails in getting one of them, he should not be GM.

thank goodness, tanev, brodie and giordano would have been 3 vets past their prime in this d corp. last year calgary had tanev, zadorov and hanifan, they did not go far in the playoffs. zadorov and hanifan are better defencemen than brodie and gio. you guys think with the addition of tanev the leafs would contend for the cup? lol.

TBH i am glad the leafs did not overpay for a 36yr old, soon to be a UFA.
Treliving did nothing for flames and screwed the Leafs by signing Reaves to 3 million dollar contract for three years and sitting him on bench for most games. Treliving and Keefe will bring leafs nowhere

I am failing to see the wisdom in DALLAS trading for Tanev , They are already a really great defensive team I thought they would have been looking at adding more scoring to their line up . A second round pick + A prospect and a conditional 3 rd also seems like an over payment for a guy who is UFA the end of this season .
Treliving did something right passing on Tanev. There are better defense out there, why are you brainwashed saying he is a fantastic player, he is Holl in disguise. Do not listen to Friedman, if he is so hockey smart, why was he never hired by a team. The Leafs are going to get a younger player who is better than Tanev. Treliving must of known something about his former team. Patience will pay dividends.
