Ethan Prow Post Skate | 03.18.24
You play more four games the other but Saturday your 400 in the AHL is it cool to hit those Milestones yeah I mean it’s definitely a cool when it’s brought to your attention uh it obviously goes by fast I think we saw that Mercy was at what 600 or
Something pro games and I didn’t think I was that far behind him but uh no it’s a cool cool to see those stats and kind of like I said goes by quick can you might be a Lo question but how much has Ethan prow changed from being a rookie play
Game one two three of his career now in app yeah I think wow it’s it’s weird to think but it’s obviously a lot of growing and stuff coming in early in my career I would say the first couple years kind of finding myself of what it takes to stay
In the lineup um kind of going in and out and and just really seeing what it’s about and then getting a good opportunity and having some good years and kind of helps grow your confidence and the more you can play with confidence and and be a staple in this
League it it it shifts it now I think more into like a leadership role and and it allows me a little more to connect if you know to all aspects of it and Brett Murray I can connect with a little more but uh no no it’s definitely Gone full
Circle for me and and it’s a cool position to be able to say uh 400 for sure have you CAU yourself the position of like being a teacher I mean you look at this blue line and guys like that’s in if keep no their rookies they’re
Especially noi is young young um do you have an opportunity where you feel like you can kind of maybe pass some of those career lessons off the guys like that yeah I think having like kind of younger core at times and different players and and different scenarios everybody’s in it
It’s nice uh to be able to share what you can day in and day out a lot of it is that we try to as a leadership group here is pass on through just like practice habits and stuff that that you’ve picked up along the way that you
Know know works I mean those are the things that you come into the league and you’re not you always everybody’s a great player coming in and everybody wants to keep growing and become better and go to the next league and and that’s things we try to help with and I think
For myself it’s it’s being receptive to people come up and have those questions and kind of show them day in and day out what it looks like and and try to take it on and what it means to be a pro uh prior to this I mean BS scram was where
You were known most uh but what has this chapter in your career this this Rochester Americans chapter meant to you it it’s super special to me I think uh obviously like like you said spent three years in wils for my good chunk early in my career and then this is my
Third year here in Rochester um I think it just holds something special I think uh coming back I wasn’t sure obviously nobody knew Co all that crazy stuff and was able to get an opportunity and and get my first NHL game here in Buffalo and Rochester so
That holds it its own part right there for me but have a family now was here in Rochester and then just coming to the rink I would say every day of what what we’re able to build here and what Seth and management and those guys are trying
To build and the culture that they’re they’re growing here it it makes it fun to come to the rank every day and easy to just battle with everybody and just kind of something you’re building and it’s contagious and I think that’s what’s bringing a lot of guys back too
And they want to stay here and that’s big uh when you talk about something like that I mean it is no secret guys with bruises you have dealt with injuries that’s that’s out there um this point in your career what keeps you motivated to persevere through those
Injuries or or a painful block shot and get right out there the next shift and keep batt yeah I think it goes to like I said a little of the culture and what we you just see everybody doing it so I just becomes a normal almost of okay whether
It’s the little things it’s kak eating a eating a Pock or Richie or somebody anybody blocking a shot and it becomes contagious then you’re like I got to do it same idea of okay he’s you know guys are banged up or or fighting through injury and playing you’re like all right
Mine isn’t as maybe serious as you should take it but it just means that I think it’s you just want to battle for the guy next to you and and it goes to show the the group that we have and and that it’s still building to be Patrick do you have anything for
Ethan yeah just a couple for me thanks Ethan for doing this uh I guess first question is you know in this league you know with the turnover it takes a while to really get a sense of what your team is and what you have but now you know
You’re you’re about five weeks from the playoffs um what do you like about this team that you think sets up well um should you make the playoffs uh I think that we’ve been we’ve been here before I think yeah in my time span here it’s
Comes down to the last week every year I feel like for for spots in whether you’re playing in the playing game or or getting the buy or what whatever it is and I think what it sets up for us is that knowledge and for guys that haven’t
Been there they know about it we talk about it it’s it’s just staying together as a group and sticking with our process I I think a lot because we know when when we’re sticking with that and we’re playing how we’re supposed to play and and using our feet and doing the things
That we can control that that we’re a good hockey team and we can compete with anybody so it’s just staying with that and making sure we put that product on the ice every day and just you know with apps now you probably know him as almost
Probably as well as anybody in this team at this point what are some of his pet peeves as a coach you know that you would maybe if a guy was coming in you would definitely want to let them know about uh no ABS is great I mean he what
You see is what you get I think with apps and he I think right away he’s just wants you he wants you to work he is a workman’s coach he he is okay with making mistakes he gets that part of the game he’s not going to hold it over your
Head if you’re working um if you’re giving it you’re all you’re blocking those shots and you’re giving it for your teammates he can live with the mistakes it’s still a game of hockey and it’s a game of mistakes and I think he gives that great freedom for
The offensive side and that goes to show with the amount of plays and and uh offense that we can create and some of the players that we produced out of here um so obviously I I mean I’ve had ABS my three years and it’s been amazing uh
It’s a great players coach he surrounds it with good assistants that you know join in and and believe in the same thing and the same process so obviously just as coming in as young guys and stuff you want to portray that he’s not trying to change you he’s he’s there for
The development of you and he wants the best for anybody he wants he doesn’t want guys to stay in this league he wants them to go and and do greater and better things and and that’s what makes it special I think about him great thank you appreciate it yeah yeah no problem
