Fitzgerald isn't going to overpay for a goalie. Same situation happened with Helle last offseason. Fitz also just got an extension. I think he's OK with us missing the playoffs if it means not giving up younger assets he can develop.
As a Flames fan , the only was I’m ok with trading Markstrom , is a.) if we get a huge haul , and b.) find a different mentor for Dustin Wolf. A perfect fit would be UFA Marc-Andre Fleury. He’s only making 3.5 million on his current deal , so at 39 , you could sign him for 2.5 million for two years. He’d probably only want 35 games a year , giving Wolf 47 games. It would ease Wolf into the league , he wouldn’t be sitting on the bench as Markstrom’s backup , and he’d be learning how to be successful as a goalie of smaller stature from Fleury.
New Jersey and Buffalo could use Markstrom at goaltender? maybe Carolina?

Button’s logic: the better the playoff push by Calgary (as opposed to NJ), the higher the price for Markstrom.
Reality: the more out of it NJ is, the less sense it makes to pay a high price for Markstrom before the deadline.
Also, are flames still a playoff team without Tanev and Hanifin and maybe more?
