Was Saturday’s collapse a look into the Leafs’ future?

The Maple Leafs blew a two-goal lead in the third period in the dying moments of regulation and would eventually leave a point on the table in Saturday’s shootout loss to the Hurricanes. TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button examines Toronto’s weekend collapse and what it means for their playoffs ambitions.

  1. Saturday’s collapse is a look into their historical pattern of Core 4 disappointments. 😀 Just is hard on devoted Leaf Fans to repeatedly experience.

  2. Here's some food for thought . What kind of team would the Leafs be IF they had the Oilers headcoach ? We've seen what Kris Knoblauch has done with the talent in Edmonton and the coaches he's brought with him to Edmonton , could he have done the same to the LEafs if they had hired him and tossed O'Keefe ?

  3. The leafs season is all but over folks. The turning point was Saturday Night and the blown 3-0 lead and eventually losing in the shootout. It’s the same thing over and over again. Let’s get ready for 2025 .

  4. It's the system they have in place that allowed them to blow that lead. Super passive, not going into the passing lanes, not blocking shots, not pressuring the guy with the puck- essential 5 leafs screening the goalie just waiting for carolina to do whatever they want. If you watch any other playoff team, they are never ever passive like that, and if they are its either because theyre gassed or because its a 5 on 3.

90 seconds of puck watching with zero effort, compared to carolinas pk in OT constantly cutting lanes and giving toronto no time with the puck.. I think the logical step would be to move on from Keefe in the offseason and redo the teams defensive structure. Which may require new personnel, but bringing in new guys with the same system will give the same results… Cut the puck watching

  5. Brodie should not be on the ice yet Keefe sits Benoit?
How many of those golas were directly on Brodie chasing people around and out of position and soft as always?
    Is Keefe seriously brain dead?

  6. A look into the future? Guys this has been the leafs for years now. The countless playoff losses, Zamboni drivers, blown leads,

This is who they have been and always will be until they make wholesale changes. And clearly they have no interest in doing that.

  7. At this point in history Craig all the Canadian teams haven’t done anything and obviously enough to reclaim a Canadian Stanley cup victory since ‘93.

I know this is a question solely about the maple laughs.

  8. And who do we blame for that ? Sheldon. He’s a very very mediocre coach at best.
I hope he’s gone after this season. It’s just getting boring.

  9. I can tell you the leafs future…. they will get bounced out of the playoffs just like they have done year after year. They have zero killer instinct and zero toughness

  10. It’s 44. Must be traded as soon as allowed. And should have been. He’s a very bad blue liner. Am I the only one who sees this!
