It’s a mist that Rogers pumps into the arena to freshen the air and try to balance humidity and overpowering scents. It’s really only used when Calgary is in town due to all the axe body spray, Colt 45, chewing tobacco, abscessed teeth, and general lack of personal hygiene their fans exhibit. As you can see from the picture, this is from an Oil Kings game against the Calgary Hitmen, so they had to double up the volume due to the additional smell of the families that come up from Calgary to support their kids.

Not really familiar with the local weather in Edmonton other than extreme cold but if it’s also really dry, they could be adding moisture to the air in the arena which would definitely make it more comfortable for you.
I think the ice surface also benefits from it?
Calgary-eh-fuck
These things were running full time during PBR Cup Finals. The dirt kept over-drying the rink, and these bad boys brought their musty delights to the rescue.

The Oilers are clearly trying to recreate the conditions of that one game in 1988.

They do the same in Columbus. I always thought they did it right before the light show to make it beams more visible.

It’s haze. They use it in concerts as well. It’s so you can see the light effects.

According to the Albertians I have on Facebook I’m sure it’s chemtrails and cloud seeding.

Probably for temperature + humidity control

Humidifiers my guess. They likely need to control RH for ice quality.

It cools the building, comes on every 3rd period during home games. I know it also brings in fresh air as well. But it cools it down, due to body heat warming the building to much

Ooh, that’s not smoke, it’s steam. Steam from the steamed clams we’re having. Mmm! Steamed clams!
