They’re never that team Detroit’s that team we’ll talk about that coming up in a little bit Sabers droughty of the day it has been a long long time since the Sabers have been in the postseason it has been 4,74 days since a Sabers playoff game the Sabers have the longest playoff

Teams above the Sabres I do not think the Red Wings are a good team I do not think the Islanders are a good team I do not think the capitals or the Penguins or let’s be honest the Devils at this point it’s fair to say it The Season’s

Long enough I don’t feel like any of these teams above them are very good at all in fact Tampa and Philadelphia who are even above that into spots I don’t think are great but they’re a little too far away and Philly’s in a Metro spot so that doesn’t matter anyway so the game

Gain on them I would pull them I would uh I probably wouldn’t do it with more than a minute left though there’d have to be a minute left I’ve got the puck and I’m ready to come up ice with it I’m throwing that fourth guy out there and

I’m risking that loser point because I feel like I’m not really risking much um back and forth some listeners saying no um one listener said I want to say yes but no in the scenario the Red Wings are getting one point regardless I’d rather take my chance in the shootout with the

Completely it is squeak in or bust for Detroit why has this happened why was it predictable here’s why it was predictable the Red Wings are fluky the ways they win are fluky they’re not a team that generates a ton of chances they’re not a team that you would expect

To get a lot of saves but they score on a super high percentage of their chances and they get saves from an unlikely source that you knew was going to regress that was going to meet the law of averages Alex lion who saved the Panthers bacon a little bit last year

Guy getting in the sabers way for the second consecutive year but what is Alex lion Alex lion who’s got hot last year at the end for Florida he had played before the last two seasons he had played 24 games in the NHL since he has played 47 games in the NHL

Okay and last year 912 save percentage but fell apart a little a little bit at the end bosi took over and carried the Panthers to the playoffs Detroit this year really strong performances for a solid chunk of the Season even after a rough stretch lately Lions sits at 32

Starts at a 908 save percentage which is pretty darn good by today’s standards in the NHL but look at what he’s done in his last four outings four goals allowed four goals allowed five goals allowed four goals allowed all four games he was under a 900 safe percentage he’s

Starting to show cracks because of course that’s what happens with a 31-year-old career AHL goal tender that’s just arrived on the scene in the NHL you’re not going to get that type of play over the course of a full season in 99 cases out of a 100 they have James

Rhymer too but he’s way way past his prime I me that is the end of James rymer’s career and let’s be honest he hasn’t been a a starting caliber goenda because villy huso has been out with injury for a very long time now so

If you look at the other teams and P PDO is a stat that kind of I think you know it’s called a lucky stat I think again it’s more a stat that shows how unsustainable is your success and sometimes you got to judge you got to

Line it up with what’s on the roster so PDO combination of shooting percentage and save percentage number one is Vancouver number two is Boston number three is Winnipeg number four is Detroit what do the Red Wings not have in common with those other three teams again half

Of it is safe percentage and actually more than half of it is save well I guess you know it’s combination so you get 91% of shooting save percentage 10% of shooting percentage whatever so the Red Wings have Alex Lion in net while the Jets have Buck the Bruins have allmark

And San and the Canucks have thater Demco those top three teams in PDO you can expect to remain there because they have Rock Solid stud goal tenders that you know what you’re getting over the long Hall the Red Wings don’t have that which is why they have been a regression

Candidate all season long and that is what is happening you look at their lineup going to this game against the Sabers it’s not that impressive at all Patrick Kane has been a monster addition for them because they don’t have a lot of scoring depth now the Red Wings are dealing with

Some injuries Dylan Lin is out I mentioned hoo the starting goenda with so look at their lineup JT CER is the number one center right now I like JT coner but he is not a number one Center he’s staing with Alex De brinkin and Patrick Kane Joe valeno with Lucas

Raymond and John Jonathan begron Andrew cop Michael rasmon David pan Christian fiser Daniel sprong Robbie fabry that’s a pretty mid forward group if you ask me not much star power when you’re asking Patrick Kane to be your best forward at age 35 coming off major hip surgery

Despite the fact he’s been very good this year uh I think you’re asking for trouble the Blue Line Jake Walman Mor at cider I like cider Ben sharot Jeff Petri and oldie M with Shane gopar I just it’s a midline up there’s not a lot of star

Talent Elite level Talent cider you have it Raymond you have it but those two have not yet really realized if you ask me that level of potential um if you look at their numbers this year Raymond has come up a little bit 51 points 64 games and he’s got some good analytics

Numbers as well um but again like it’s it’s just kind of a mid lineup is the way I look at Detroit and the fact that they’ve Fallen apart is not a surprise at all Kane’s impact has been big he is you know almost a pointed game player um

He’s helped out their power play some and that would have helped the Sabers right like we thought when that we were talking about the Patrick Kane sweep Stakes well the only thing he’s probably GNA help you with is your power play and we don’t really need help with our power

Play man that was the attitude we had at the time because the Sabers were fresh into a season on the heels of being the third leading scoring team in the league it was understandable why at the time you might have thought well they don’t really need help on their power play but

Man looking back they needed help they’ve needed help all year long and Kane probably would have helped that in a big way who’s to say that if had they signed Kane that the Savers wouldn’t be tied with Detroit going into this game tonight who knows when we come back
