CAREY PRICE: HUGE SAVE – Angles 301: Holding your ground, situational positioning and NHL hilites!

In our final ANGLES installment, we spend 17 minutes diving into holding your ground, situational positioning, and falling in love with the backdoor. We see numerous NHL hilites of goalies like Carey Price playing angles using the exact techniques we discuss. Things like conservative, standard and aggressive depth are covered and concepts like looking off the puck.

  1. Ding Ding!! School is IN session! Loved the series & yes!.. Trusting the Defense is key… I’ve had some I trust & some I just can’t! Can’t wait to see what’s next! 👍😎

  2. Great video! Great breakdowns! This is going to become the best goalie video resource on the tube in no time! 😎👍🏼

  3. This was an excellent video to end the series on angles. I really enjoyed the NHL clips and your explanations at the end. Hearing you vocalize the goalies actions in each situation and break down the play as it developed was great. Definitely that older and out of shape guy, but certainly not offended. Appreciate all your help. Hope these types of videos keep coming.

  4. The last video really helped in a pickup game Thursday. First time playing a full game in 2 months. First period 23 shots let in 4 goals. Refocused and remembered what you said and got my angles right.

2nd period 26 shots only one goal. Everything was hitting me. 3rd period same thing… 18 shots 1 goal. Going back to the basics is always good. Thanks Steve.

  5. Loving these videos Steve and as an Ontario boy, wish I had a goalie coach like you back in my younger days. I gotta ask, is there some truth or element on how a goalie reads and/or positions themselves based on the shooters hand? For example, if the shooter is lefty and is coming down on the right and vise versa. Thanks again!

  6. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the goalies first priority should always be the puck carrier, of course you have to pay attention to other threats, but the puck carrier is the goalies first responsibility.

  7. Awesome video set Steve.
It makes me think about some of the mistakes that I know I've been making and need to address. Including being fat. Lol
I'm 50, and this is a great reminder for all ages to go back to the basics.

  8. Thank you for the very helpful, orderly video presentation. The graphic or goalie net space in relation to the puck, communicated as a shadow is a very powerful way to illustrate depth changes of the puck.

  9. Wish I had this resource when I was a kid. My development consisted of watching Jim Park's The Puck Stops Here once a week 😆

  10. Man, I learn so much, and have fun doing it, while watching your videos. Thanks a million from an old guy that is making more saves than ever because of it.

  11. My son(11yo AAA goalie) and I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! Keep em coming he eats em up ESPECIALLY this one!

  12. Wow. Yup definitely conservative depth. That makes sense why I'm getting beat the way I do. Thanks so much fr this vid!

  13. Thanks! I went back to this video to watch it again. I catch myself drifting back into the blue, and not standing my ground. After the puck is behind me, I see that I am deep in the blue, and curse myself. Really, helpful vid! Thanks, again!

  14. Hope you make a video on the rangers goalie shesterkin (?) apparently, his movements are what goalies will be incorporating into their arsenal.

  15. Thanks a lot! I play ball hockey and your videos have really helped me out. I’ve
never played ice hockey so I’ve never had any coaching on how to play between the pipes. Going for our second championship in row tonight. I wouldn’t be there without your videos

  16. I played in the morning and my depth was super conservative because I wasn’t trusting my skating. I played again the same day but after watching all three of these videos and I genuinely saved 20% or more pucks than before (and against higher level guys). Incredible work Steve, thank you

  17. Just started playing goalie about a year and a half ago, and have had no formal coaching whatsoever. This video was great and made me realize I tend to sit way back in my crease. Very very helpful!
