Old article with some nice quotes like ” without that Dad figure in the loop — has forced him to grow up a little bit. He’s matured and learned a lot. In some ways, he’s put all his effort into that as a way to cope.
“It would have so easy to go, ‘I’m going to quit. I’m going to go play video games. I don’t really care.’ But for Matt, it was kind of like, ‘You know what? Now I don’t have someone there the whole time. I’m mad. This shouldn’t have happened to me. This is another setback.’ In some ways, he (channelled) all that energy and was like, ‘I’m going to become the best I can be.’ He became so dedicated.”
And
“Often, little boys chase big brothers into hockey. Or they get nudged into the game by the old man.
For Matt Rempe, it meant following his sisters. Then trying to keep up, because Steph and Alley, four years older, were very good very early.
Neither parent could skate, so it was left to the twins to help him.
Said Matt: “I just wanted to be like them. They were really great role models. I love them so much. They’re so huge for me. I have to thank them for that.”

Next they’re gonna tell us that he runs a rescue organization for puppies with birth defects.
His story is so good – if they made a movie out of it people would be like “Corny! That shit never happens…”

What an awesome article, thank you for posting!
Seems like his dad was an amazing person. How cool that his company designed the Saddledome’s roof?! I hope Rempe’s in the lineup when they play in Calgary next year.

Thanks for sharing this. I honestly didn’t know about his vibe when he started here, like whether or not he was just a kinda self absorbed, immature kid. And as much as fans opinions on players personalities doesn’t really matter, this kinda puts it in perspective for me and is just cool.

It’s reaching a point that if they try to send rempe down now we may have a riot

I absolutely love this kid but sometimes I think he is choking up on his stick.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen the fan base go so crazy over a player like him before. I went to MetLife and I was just soaking in the experience, so I wasn’t on my phone and didn’t even know he was playing.
My first sight of him in the game he’s beating up Matt Martin and giving 80K people the “let’s fucking go” arms.
Just an iconic game and I hope he’s got a place in the lineup the rest of the season and into the playoffs. The vibes are different with him on the bench.
