    No retention?

    Hughes, you mad lad.

    Edit: Makes sense, 50%.

  2. DMCPhoenix-X

how the hell did Hughes swing that? Madlad

  3. HorseShoulders

Better than I was expecting tbh.

    Thanks for the memories Jake

If there’s no retention that’s a TIDY piece of work.

  5. MessageBoard

How Hughes pulled that off while better players are going for 6ths is beyond me. If no retention Hughes is a God.

    Great return! Confused but happy.

    TradeCentre saying 50% retained?

  7. LamBEASTMARTY

    W trade

edit : Ah salary retained. Was too good to be true.

  8. Good lad, played hard for us, wish him the best. Look forward to our new tandem.

    [Per Chris Johnston:](https://x.com/reporterchris/status/1766172933242683818?s=46&t=w725sVUiyAQ_1383m0H0hQ)

“The Habs are retaining 50% of Jake Allen’s $3.85M cap hit. Significant because that contract runs through the end of next season.”

    [Per Eric Engels:](https://x.com/ericengels/status/1766176802437746741?s=46&t=w725sVUiyAQ_1383m0H0hQ)

“Condition on the third to become a second for Allen is based on him playing 40 games.”

    [Further info per Seravalli](https://x.com/frank_seravalli/status/1766181091398791390?s=46&t=w725sVUiyAQ_1383m0H0hQ):

“… Must hit 40 or more games exclusively in 2024-25 season.”

    Fooking Brilliant

In no way did I think Kent was getting this return

  11. Man, Kent was for sure a car seller in one of his past life. How the hell did he manage to get that kind of return? What a mad lad!

On another note, the 3 goalies rotation is finally over, a bit too late IMO but it’s better now than never.

  12. ItTakesTreeGoals

I knew it was going to be NJ or Avs.

    Good shit KH

  13. The retention is absolutely nothing. Edmundson’s retention comes off the books, Alzner’s buyout comes off the books, the cap goes up. Retention spots barely matter when you can just use a 3rd team and trade like a 5-6-7 pick for that.

  14. TrulyAuthentic123

Thank goodness! This is the only trade we absolutely ***needed*** to make, and Hughes got it done. I’m thrilled!

  15. Habs are gonna have 4.2M in dead money next season from the retentions on Petry & Allen.

  16. Shoutout to that dude who posted that “I told you so” rant this morning saying that Allen was untradeable

  17. DMG_Morgoth

I guess it’s their 2025 3rd or 2nd? Guessing since the number of games for the conditional seem to be 40…

  18. steeler2323

But..but…. didn’t someone swore he was untradable 12 hours ago, and said that he “told us so because his daddy was a goalie in the show and knew Allen wasn’t good”?

He sure took that post down fast after seeing this..!

  19. blackened1777

    Good luck in NJ, Jake.

And for one last time, fuck all the haters who shit all over you this season and in past seasons with us.

  20. What a deal, all the best to jake, he was a stud here

  21. Good luck, Jake.

    And thank you for everything.

  22. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAAA!

All this time spent at “Kent Hughes playing Chess” bull, with the 3 goalie system where none of the goalies got consistent starts….all for a 3rd rounder that might end up a 2nd round pick?

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAAA!

  23. Spicy_Pickle_6

I’m pumped for Primes to get more games!

  24. snipeftw

Now it’s time for Primeau to get more games and take over that starting position. He was drafted for this role, and Montembault has peaked.

  25. Phil_Atelist

Look, we all know that he’s a goalie that needs at least 2/3 of the starts. This was sub-optimal for him in Montreal. Let’s hope he gets those 40 starts and we get the 2nd round pick.
