Per Vincent Mercogliano of USA Today (emphasis mine).

“[The New York Rangesr] are also on the prowl for a ***top-six right winger***, with Pittsburgh’s ***Jake Guentzel*** the ideal candidate and Anaheim’s ***Frank Vatrano*** next up on their wish list. They’ve expressed ***serious interest*** in both, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation, who noted that the ***asking prices are quite high*** (especially for Guentzel, whose going rate is believed to be a first-round pick and multiple young assets).”

“Drury strongly prefers not to part with any of his ***active NHL players*** (that includes ***Kaapo Kakko***) or either of his ***top-two prospects, Brennan Othmann and Gabe Perreault***, which could force him to pivot to less-costly options.

  2. Those are the biggest chips the teams are offering. Not sure ho we get them without giving up our best chips.

So Vince is saying guentzel now, and it seems like other teams are said to be out. Can Friday be here already

Good to hear. Rather not trade than give up those guys for what is a pretty underwhelming deadline.

Can someone tell me how, in any universe, we can get guentzel without giving up kakko, Perrault, or Othmann?

  6. I’d also be careful trading big for a 1RW when there’s no certainty whether Zib will ever wake up this season. We’ve paired Z/CK with virtually every winger on our roster, and none of them have clicked. So betting on an expensive winger to fix our seemingly unredeemably unproductive 1L is a bit of a risk imo. I’m still in favor of trading for a winger, but not at the expense of selling the whole barn.

Me too, especially Othmann and Perreault.

Guentzel is the only player that might actually move our needle in the playoffs but the cost for him is too great. If we can’t get a player like him, it’s almost worth just standing pat and see where the playoffs take us.

I can live with Othmann or Perreault getting moved but it has to be for someone who will also be here next year. Guentzel would be a great add but it is likely to cost a lot for a rental that we probably can’t extend.

Perreault is absolutely untouchable. I would be willing to trade Othmann but not for a rental.

Are we really 1 player away from a serious run at the cup? I don’t think this is the year to go all-in and throw caution to the wind.

This is mostly Drury negotiating through the media in response to Verbeek negotiating through the media.

Barclay goodrow, YOU are a Pittsburgh penguin!!

I have a strong feeling Sykora gets dealt at the deadline.

Idk much about any of this, but is there a way we could still get Duclair for the 1RW? Was just watching the Stars Sharks game and just looks like hed be perfect and is definitely looking for a contender to be traded to.

OK, so sykora and a 2nd that turns into a first if the Rangers make the conference finals

  17. jkman61494

Guentzel is 29 and all I hear from pens fans is he’s on a made decline. No no no.

Vatrano is a 1+ year guy so he’d be more worth it AND cost less.

I’d rather him and go for a high reward high risk but likely low cost guy like Roslovic for 3C

  18. Key-Tip-7521

I’d steer clear of Guentzel because of the price and what the penguins want in return. And why would the Rangers trade within the division?

Don’t do it Drury. Don’t do it
