That seems like a low return to me…

Edit: reading the responses and other comments have made me realize it is an acceptable return, I think I’m just salty that it’s Vegas.

  2. Busy-Apartment-2054

Personally I think he should have been a first, however if you forget this past season this is an insane deal imo, I’m not too happy or upset about this trade. Also his contract is ending anyways so it’s better to get something for nothing

  3. JerBear81

I was at least expecting a 2nd with a prospect, and maybe a depth player.

  4. Content-Style-8705

I don’t wanna say we got fleeced, but…

  5. Curious if we’re just building picks to flip for a player like with Sandin last season.

  6. dcap8989

I’m just curious if caps retained any of his salary lol

  7. Iguana_Iglesias

Eh, it’s fine, very whelming. Especially considering his track record of inconsistency and the fact that they could have easily got nothing for him if he walked as an UFA

  8. damididit

Every one of you would have traded Mantha for half a bag of pucks last year.

A 2nd and a 4th is a reasonable return given the player history since he came to Washington.

  9. Crypto_Grug

Gmbm being a nice guy. Dude was having a solid rebound and he sold him for basically nothing. Classic GMBM.

No shot we were ever getting a 1st for him, this is extremely fair value for a pending UFA middle 6 winger who’s been very inconsistent throughout his career. Throw in the fact we would’ve taken a bag of pucks for him in the offseason and I’m content. Very even deal IMO.

  11. JerBear81

And it’s looking like we’re retaining half of his salary 😩

Is this a bad call? I feel like it could be better. A 2nd round pick in 2024, then a 4th round pick in 2026?

  13. Worth_Surround9684

Not great not terrible. Probably the best offer available considering teams giving up a 1st want Guentzel

  14. MrSchnuffles

    Vegas’s 2nd and 4th will be so late it’s almost a 3rd and a 5th.

    Tell me it’s not Vegas’s 2nd and 4th.

  15. Seems like a waste. These are picks that may end up as an occasional Hershey call up – at best.

  16. fuzzypyrocat

Sad to see him go, but hope he keeps killing it out west with the knights!

  17. ill_logic___

Yeah hate being on a rebuild but that’s a decent return

  18. rbnlegend

Getting anything for a player whose contract expires at the end of the season is gravy. I like his play lately and I’d like to see him come back next year, but him leaving isn’t going to change the outcome for this year. We miss the playoffs, or get eliminated in the first round either way.

This is like the caps of my youth, in the late 80s.

  19. InfallibleBackstairs

Why did it have to be fucking Vegas?

  20. Glitchwillis

Don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya

  21. Draakenbyrd

Underwhelming trade for an underwhelming player.

    Bye ManthaRay!

  22. Outrageous-Gur4824

This is a smart move. The Caps formally entered Rebuild Mode today. Let’s stockpile picks and go get young talent.

For those who complain about a lack of compete for this season — the Caps went nowhere this season — it was always one step forward, two steps back. It is time to use some valuable talent to get more pieces around Strome, Protas, and other good, young players/.

Fam since Langway and Gartner. Used to sit amidst the blue clouds of smoke at the Capital Centre.

    👍👍👍👍👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

  24. Special-Bite

That’s a nice return for him. Hopefully he doesn’t help them win a cup. Fuck Vegas.

  25. Would’ve had nothing, got a second and a fourth. I’m saddened that it means we probably won’t chase the playoffs that much, but otherwise, seems like the best mid-to-long term thing to do.

  26. Fastlane19

This is a great deal and I’m impressed with the good haul

  27. bigatrop

His production and that one recent fight with cousins made him absurdly attractive. Works for me.

  28. yallcaps

Fair trade – not overwhelming, but decent value. Best of luck to Mantha, glad he got his game back on track after a year or two of sitting in Laviolette’s doghouse.

  29. Key_Soup_987

This seems like fair value for a winger with known effort issues in a contract year.

  30. capitarider

We are excited for a late 2nd round pick with 50% retained?

I know he’s a rental, but he’s still a serviceable 2nd/3rd win that can do stuff and when he’s put in a position to actually win a cup, he probably cares more.

Feel like at 50% we could have grabbed a late 1st.

This late 2nd does nothing for us unless we get insanely lucky and as much as everyone hates him, he could at least put pucks in the net and be a NHL caliber player.
