[Jordan Schmaltz on X] 🚨🚨Breaking News🚨🚨 Leaked footage of #LetsGoPens Jake Guentzel speaking with his longtime player agent @BenHankinson from his Edmonton hotel room over the weekend. Stevie Y not willing to go 8 years? Tell them bullshit!! – The People’s 📞📞
Schmaltz broke the Kane to Detroit news days before it came out. Appears Guentzel is heading to Detroit. How do we feel?
I’ll believe it when I see it. Idk why we’d want to give up assets for guentzel but if we do, Stevie knows better than me

Depends what we give up, if it’s any of our serious prospects I won’t love it.

If there is truth to this, we have to find a much better 2C ASAP. Guentzel stakes a claim for our window and with him, Kane, Raymond, and DeBrincat, two of them have to play with a C other than Larkin and as much as I like Compher, the offensive firepower at wing needs a better center to maximize that.
EDIT: I’m not sure how this works cap-wise either. Don’t have CapFriendly in front of me, but that has to mean that every pending UFA we have is walking and probably a contract or two out as well.

Could see Berggren moved for Guentzel along with some draft picks? And possibly Holl?
Consensus seems to be Jonatan doesn’t want to be here no more. Poor guy keeps getting pushed down the depth chart… Can’t say I blame him

Can someone explain what this tweet means? Why does this mean Guentzel to Detroit?

Reputable or is this guy memeing?

Maybe there’s some truth here. Berggren + another prospect might get the job done?
“Lastly, Friedman confirmed that the Pittsburgh Penguins had set the asking price for forward Jake Guentzel at two prospects; not one prospect and a first-round pick. Friedman’s report comes a few days after President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas said to reporters that the Penguins’ primary focus at this year’s trade deadline would be to get younger overall. With several buyers not interested in parting with a first-round pick at this year’s trade deadline, the asking price for Guentzel may lead to a larger market for Pittsburgh to choose from.”
Idk how this means guentzel to Detroit or if it’s the right move all i know is it’s exciting

Jesus Guentzel is 29 already, where has the time gone. I mean who doesn’t want essentially a PPG top 6 winger. Always depends on what we send their way. Stevie more than likely won’t do long term and we see a term something similar to ADB if it were to happen. Assuming its a sign and trade.

I don’t think this means Guentzel to Detroit necessarily.
I imagine Stevie is willing to trade with a promise of extension but doesn’t want to give a 29 year old 8 years (obviously also dependent on prospects we send), which is probably what Guentzel wants. Maybe willing to go 4 or 5 based on Copp, Chiarot, Compher, Debrincat.
We also have decisions to make on Seider, Raymond, Gostisbhere, Sprong, Fabbri & maybe offloading a defenseman. Cap space is potentially going to go quick and you can’t hand out an 8 year like it’s nothing.

I’m down with it. But not down for an 8 year unless it’s a sweetheart deal (which it won’t be) Bergie (I’ll miss you) couple of mid picks or one soda I’m game.

Guentzel is like the 15th highest scoring player in the NHL since 2016 as far as goals per game, but he has played a lot of minutes on Crosby’s wing which helps that. That said, he’s still an elite finisher in his own right, and Guentzel-Larkin-Raymond would be a nutty top line. We don’t really have a left shot winger who can bury it like Guentzel can, so I would be excited to add him. The not giving him term thing is probably true though, and in all the speculation that I’ve seen about Guentzel the last few days, Detroit has barely been mentioned at all and Vancouver and Vegas have apparently been kicking tires on him for weeks. Seems unlikely it happens but we’ll see I suppose.

Man, wasn’t Jordan one of the defensemen that used to play for the blues?
