The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired defenseman and former Leaf Ilya Lyubushkin from the Anaheim Ducks at 75% salary retained in a three-team trade involving the Carolina Hurricanes, with a 3rd-round pick in 2025 (to Anaheim) and a 6th-round pick in 2024 (to Carolina) going out the door. David Morassutti of Locked On Leafs joins Gil Martin of Locked On NHL to react to the trade, discuss where Lyubushkin fits into the Leafs’ mix, and sort out whether Leafs GM Brad Treliving is done making additions to a Leafs team that’s been red hot of late.

He is not playing with Rielly. He is a depth player at best. Up to date stats before being traded from Anaheim to Toronto

Predictable player. Bottom pairing – right shot – defenceman who can match up against middle six forwards and find a role on the penalty kill.
Average plus skater. Below average puck skill. Very limited making plays. Simple is best. Glass and out when nothing available.
If Gil were an animal, he'd be a penguin
