Is the Window for Another Cup Closing in Tampa?

The Bolts are above the playoff line, but there are teams chasing them who have games in hand and Tampa’s play has been inconsistent.

  1. I don’t think they need a rebuild, yet. This is the time which determines if the team will go to full rebuild later or just quick 1-2 seasons retool and get back to it… the difference is if they keep chasing PO and sacrificing futures… then they will have to do hard rebuild… if they trade a few players, get 2-3 first round picks or younger players then after little bit pain they can be back… otherwise they will go the way to hell like Pittsburgh and Washington are heading… 🤷🏻‍♂️

  2. Its that era of dominate organizations coming to an end. Caps are done, Pens are heading there. Tampa still has a shot. Hawks are done.

  3. The loss of Lalonde really hurt them, especially their defense. I'm glad Lalonde is having success in Detroit, but it really hurt Tampa

  4. Watching Brayden Point attempt to defend or play defense is comical. He literally might be the worst player in the entire league without the puck on his stick. And Hagel and Paul get a lot of love on this channel. I don't get it. Both are defensive liabilities as well. Paul and Point have had multiple -5 games this season alone.

  5. The Bolts have been very inconsistent. There are defensive issues that were prominent during the first two months, were better in January, but have gotten worse recently. That's not just because of Sergachev's injury, but probably goes back to the MacDonough trade (made sense long term, but a bigger hit to the team than expected, IMO). The Bolts also have had issues scoring at 5×5, especially when Kucherov is not on the ice. Finally, I think Vasy is less than 100%. He hasn't been himself. The window is closing, but probably not closed yet. But when that day comes, this Tampa Bay fan is hoping for an aggressive tear–down rather than a slow decline through Shannon's 3rd row.

  6. they should trade Stamkos and resign him in fa if possible. as much as he helps them, they need to upgrade the depth and D. i'd like them do a 2 year retool and move stammer down to the third line/pp.

  7. I think Tampa did better than expected without Vasilevskiy and all the pundits screaming that they needed to go out and get another goalie were tuned out. Not having the mean old men depth forwards seems to have hurt them the most. We'll find out which way the wind is blowing in Tampa Bay whether they go out and add some strong depth pieces again or do some selling or maybe a bit of both. Given the way this team just waits for the playoffs all year, I still wouldn't want to play them in the first round.

  8. Tampa bay fan here, the window closed last season. Too many players gone and no good replacements. Injuries and no good goaltending.

  9. It's pretty remarkable how a team can go to one of the best ot a middling team when one integral piece isn't working ( vasilevsky) they are a completely different team without there star goalie

  10. Most problems this team have are mental, even Vasy, when they're committed to the game plan and playing defense they're top 8-10 no doubt.
JBB had a perfect record, but he made some significant mistakes, which are causing them these problems now: god awful Jeannot trade, 1-1.5 mil overpay for Sergachev, Cernak, Cirelli, awful Sheary contract with NMC. If he will hit on some trades and resolve those mistakes this team will still be a contender for 3-4 years+. Drafting, developing and signing young players is one of the best in the league with no draft capital.

  11. Tampa would be smart to trade Stammer. Re-sign him as a UFA and acquire a lesser but quality young forward in the trade and extend their window

  12. Honestly, b2b Cups and 3 Cup Finals apearance is nohing to sneeze about.

I would've given my left kidney for that kind of run for the Canucks

  13. I have no idea if the Lightning finish above or below the playoff line. I do know that playoff hockey is here now, the final 20 game stretch run is here, the time for all the players to step up has arrived, or dust off the golf clubs.

  14. Tampa has pretty much NO SHOT IN THE PLAYOFFS there age shows later in games and there’s just tooooo many talented teams that will be in the playoffs and extremely tough to beat we saw last yr how there not the same team

  15. Stamkos to the rangers lmao 🤣 for a cup and maybe give up Our young promising William cuyle and some two draft picks he’s 34 and not off his most impressive season but could easily add a bunch of apples and playoff off experience snd leadership

  16. You know if you look at 4 seasons of Tampa with the playoff runs they played enough games to makeup a 5th season that’s a lot of hockey

  17. I would love a video on goalies! Maybe analyze stats that indicate who is carrying their team and who is being carried by the team.

  18. As a hawks fan, it’s better to start a rebuild sooner instead of letting the animal suffer. It was rough when they first started to suck, they still suck, but the longer they suck for, the less it starts to hurt.

  19. The window closes after this year… Unless by the trade deadline they can shake up at least 3 of the bottom 6 forwards and at least one entire defensive line. They need to use the LTIR money from Sergachev to bring in a defenceman on an expiring contract. Over the summer they need to see if they can trade aging talent for well scouted diamond in the rough prospects on ELCs. Stamkos needs to re-sign at the same or preferably less of a cap hit which would align with his decline in overall performance.

They have been searching for answers the last few months by calling up as many AHL plays as they could during some of the recent injuries. They may have some solutions with Monte and Chaffee if they can galvanize before the playoffs. Unfortunately they don't have a stacked pool of talented players like in 2014 due to shipping off draft picks for players that brought them immediate cup success. Not to mention any time JBB picks up the phone teams are probabaly weary on what he's trying to sneak away from them.

Just gave up my Lightnings season tickets for next year. I just don't see much happening after this year or next.
