Have you lost faith in the Canucks as a favourite?

The Canucks have hit some adversity and have dropped six of their last seven games but they still lead the Western Conference. Did their rough month of February make you lose faith in the Canucks as a favourite? TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron discusses.

  1. The only player on the team with a decent amount of playoff experience is JT Miller and his playoff production isn't great. How can a team with no playoff exoperience be the favourite to even come out of the west when they have to get through teams like Vegas or Colorado?

  2. How all Canucks fans feel too. We'll see what happens in the next 2 months. With a proper D-Core healthy, and the Canucks need Soucey healthy, they will significantly improve.

  3. Canucks haven't looked the same since the Kuzmenko trade. They gave away a top six 40 goal winger for a washed up Lindholm who's doing nothing.

  4. No! Here's why:
    1. They have overachieved…..nobody thought they'd be this good this season and yet here they are in the hunt for the President Trophy.
    2. They HAVE top end talent including a top end "G"…they have fallen "back to the pack" but they have the talent to win it all.
    3. Tocchet will let them struggle and fight through their mediocrity TO A POINT but won't let them slide too far before he "rights the ship".
    4. They've found that all important CHEMISTRY and it looks like Pettersson may soon sign a lucrative longterm extension.
BOTTOM LINE: Canucks have the talent to make a deep run and could win it all BUT They've got major hurdles in front of them to make it to the finals.

  5. I'm happy the Canucks have been doing really well this year. I like lots of their players and Rick Tocchet has really turned this group around but I just dont see them as Stanley Cup contenders right now let alone favourites. Its too bad they missed out on Tanev because he would've been a great fit alongside Quinn Hughes. Plus he would already have some chemistry with that team. But here's the problem. I would rather face Vancouver in the playoffs than: Boston, Carolina, Colorado, Dallas, Edmonton, Florida, New York (Rangers), Vegas and Winnepeg. So no, they are nowhere near Stanley Cup favourites right now. However, I do think if they could add a shutdown defenseman and maybe a couple gritty forwards for the bottom six that they would definitely be strong contenders. They have all the right pieces in place.

  6. No. This is a team with Tocchet that can over come all obstacles. I still think they’re favourites to go to the Cup. I believe it in my heart as a hockey fan & my soul as a Canucks fan.

They’ll correct their mistakes. Relax people. 🫡

  7. I mean as long as Coli Campbell is in league office. The Canucks cut him 40 year's ago. Butthurt league politics. How about the electronic boards?? The nascar fire suit/ modern nhl jersey. Yankee BS.

  8. That Boston win was all I needed to see from this team. I’m bought in , I believe in them . Playoffs are gonna be so fun to watch! 🏒🥅🚨

  9. The Canucks improved dramatically this year because they were pushed by a new , hard-nosed coach. I’ve been wondering if a point would come where they’d get tired of the constant demands (and now Tocchet’s public reprimand of their questionable play lately). This has happened before where teams get tired of hard-nosed coaches , and I think the Canucks will falter down the stretch for that reason. And as a Flames fan , I’ll be happy as the first round draft pick we got in the Lindholm trade will be a few positions higher as the Canucks drop in the standings. 😬

  10. Lmao with these headlines. Literally every other contender has gone through these stretches already. When they were winning all the eastern media is like "I want to see them go through adversity first" and now that they are going through said adversity the media switches to "are they even a contender"

  11. The problem is, you have a high ego coach who refuses to acknowledge that chesmitry does matter, and only looks at stats. The Lotto line works, yet Tocchet doesn't like using it. Kumenzko? Had your fun benching him because he wasn't doing good? Look at the Canucks now. No chemstry.

  12. the Canucks look like they don’t care if they lose rn, the on ice product has been garbage and they know it.

  13. I never had confidence in them, they do this every year where they play great at the start of the season then shit the bed the second half

  14. There's not a loss of faith but more of a reality check for most. The Canucks were punching above their weight class for most of the season. The team is the same team as it's been for the last 3 years… only difference is that we don't have OEL or Erickson to blame… Tochett had the team playing positionally sound hockey and had everyone bought into it… now the structure has cracks, and players are overextending themselves without taking responsibility… yes There's key forecheckers injured, but this team was rolling 4 lines… not currently the only line working seems to be JT's… Petey is at his best when he was concentrating on being that Selke player and quickly turned the other teams mistakes into scoring opportunities… there's no squeezing the stick or over thinking the play… just defend and pounce… the puck would just find him… he's impossible to stop when he plays like that… the powerplay obviously was more fluid too… line changes were crisp when the shifts were full of energy and players raced to get changed out… the penalties we're taking now are lazy penalties… we're now getting hooks, trips, slashes all caused from bad positioning and lack of skating… I want to see our PK tighten up… I want to clog the neutral zone with 5 guys playing as a unit and stop any forward progress against the team… I want short shifts and full on hustle with every forward… I want to be physically tough to play against so the game is natural and the pushback comes with lethal efficiency… a structure like this protects every line and even if the other team has the line match it protects against over committing… Tochett has his hands full and should care less about who's going to get Petey going and instead have each player playing one system…

  15. Lol Eastern bias is loving this rut our Nucks are having, still tops of the Standings in a year we were never even considered to be a Contender with Joshua and Soucy still out, another trade is needed yes but I’m not crying yet.

  16. People just expect things to go the same forever. Like this is the first year in 4 seasons theyve been good. Theres always parity ups and downs on every team. If youve watched more than 1 season of hockey you know this.

  17. Dakota, garland and blueger is still the life line…. They bring life to the team. The chemistry is dialed in. Love watching them. They don't need to score. It's the energy and shot chances. Analytics

  18. They won’t win with Peterson. He’s too soft. No real heart on this team. Been a Canucks fan for 40 years. Not getting excited with this bunch.

  19. It isn't a correction. They're playing soft and lazy and they're playing without effort at times. They're also playing very sloppy. You do all those things your numbers are going to suck and you're not going to have success no matter who you are. But sure call it regression if you like. It's not but whatever.
