  1. I love Jarry but I say trade him and bring up the kid from the minors. If Jake is signed then some other other chip will fall. There will be some movement for sure. We're not the Bruins or Rangers but please GOD, Zeus, Yemaya, and every other God – not 20 or 28!

  2. This is why I love to listen to the show DK 🙂 This is realistic stuff. Don't sell to get rid off your own emotions which are attached to bad losses. Look at what's in place or close to it and keep building around it as long as Sid's here. If you sell now, then get at least pieces back that will give equal value for this or upcoming years.

  3. Wow! This is the first time in my life I think I actually disagree with you DK – this is a new feeling – but I think your criticism of KD is unfounded. Yes, it is true he said recently we have to get younger – but it is not his fault that 77 has a no-trade clause and it is not his fault that 71 has slowed down sooner than anyone. Never forget what WOULD have happened if KD had not moved all of the dead weight that he did. Let's not forget that the Erik Karlsson trade was a coup. I think Ellor and Accari are great bottom six players. Of course, no one can excuse the waiver wire pick-ups Jansson Harkins and the elfin whats-his-name.

  4. I'd love to know your "source". I'm assuming that whoever this is he's been part of both ownership administrations because there's no way you'd be able to have built a source relationship from someone that was brought in from FSG less than two years ago, and considering the whole front office was overhauled, that makes it difficult to imagine. Aside from some scouts that remain, who's left? Kevin Acklin? Please. The zamboni driver? Are you prodding Craig Patrick for info? Getting info on the lowdown from the Penguins coaches? Either way, the fact that Dubas publicly left Guentzel hanging as a wait and see situation makes me think that if they did have every intention of signing him, he would have been mentioned in the same light as Karlsson and the core when he spoke of who they want to build around with more youth. Not one player, not Jake, and not even those signed to longer term deals than EK were mentioned, let alone in a way that guarantees they'll be here next season.

  5. And don't forget, even if they do sign Jake in the offseason – which will probably add another $3 million to his existing contract (essentially Carter's money) – they still need to upgrade the rest of the bottom 6 and that includes replacing Carter as well, and more importantly, find a legit 2nd line center. Unless you're bats!it crazy and think Malkin is still capable of that role. If anything, Eller has proven he's more capable of centering the 2nd line at this point, and he was brought in to center the 3rd line. They can't afford Guentzel and not wind up even worse of a one line team next season. They need to say goodbye to him (not him really but his cap hit) and use the $9+ million he and Carter leaving will save them to at least fill out the RW on Sid's line, and find another center to build a more capable 2nd line with. Keeping Jake is illogical considering everything else this team needs to fix to be more competitive, with a core (ie: a Geno) that'll be that much older next season. If they don't want it to be a complete firesale rebuild, then they need to start fixing things while it's still salvageable ASAP. What's killing them now isn't even the Guentzel situation, it's the elephant in the room called Geno that everyone is trying to dance around.

  6. I dont understand this take. First, the team desperately needs youth and talent and have very little talent. Second, say the Pens somehow make the playoffs and then what? Get slaughtered in the 1st round? Third, you're jumping up and down about this winning stretch. Great, but Jake was hurt so they won without him.

Not saying Jake isn't a great player but taking everything in context of now and the future it makes sense to trade him.

  7. I think overall if the team goes through "rebuild/retool" it's not going to be like the early to mid 2000s. Those teams that were bad, were also suffering from the Howard Baldwin years when he put the team in so much debt, they had to file for Chatper 11 Bankruptcy protection.

This franchise today, is in a much more stable financial position, than it was back in those days.

  8. I just don't think it's possible to keep paying high-end talent without supporting the bottom 6 and a real defensive defenseman.
They don't have any young run through the wall players in the minors so not sure how that could happen.

  9. Pains me to say it, but the Rangers did it right. They openly committed to a 2-3 year rebuild in a letter to the fans. They sold players that wouldn't be part of the solution in a few years, kept the ones to build around, and tanked for a few seasons to get picks at the top of the draft. Those high picks aren't even that good, and yet they've retooled and are back atop the standings. Problem is the time to do that was 3 years ago, not now. Our core doesn't have that much time left.

  10. 03:33 it would be funnier if a report didn’t just drop talking about how Nutting used roster money to build an 8 million dollar (pocket change to Nutting) new practice facility…. That’s how cheap Nutting is. So a bag of balls could absolutely be part of a trade when cheat skate bobs involved.

  11. I still believe Jake won't be traded. I don't think Crosby would allow it 😂 trading off expiring contracts and some older guys isn't a bad idea to get some assets to reload next year

Edit: also sad to see that just like the last few years, they will expend so much energy getting into the playoffs that they run out of gas and have a first round exit

  12. #J1Q Dk love the show listen every morning walking my dogs. I hate to say this cause it is more than just Sully but it is hard not to wonder what is he thinking and preaching! Pulling the goalie with 2 min left the extra attacker is jeff carter and the team just passes around with no shots at the end of the game. I mean how does his coaching decisions and management keep him employed?
