Good move by the KIngs, finally starting to think about the future. Kempe will get to play with his fomer teammate Grundström, hopefully they are late bloomers. Kings might be interesting again in 3-5 years.

signing matthews and marner to a 6 year deal makes sense, tavares contract will be up at the same time and they'll be able to resign and get a raise.

As a swede i wonder if it would have been possible that Toronto would trade Rasmus Sandin or Timothy Liljegren instead of Grundström. Anybody?

I think the Leafs could pick up Radko Gudas as Depth D from the Flyers.
Babcock has said over and over again that he cares about scoring chances, not shots.
I don't think Los Angeles got enough. They got 2 prospects and a first-round pick. The thing is that they got no guarantee roster player while Toronto got a top2 or top4 defenseman right away.
Was kind of hoping the Flames would grab him. Oh well.

This is a good trade for both teams. I like Gudas ,also Pat Maroon. I wonder what the Leafs would have to give up? The 2020-21 #1 pick should be available for trade, along with Zaitsev & Llegren. Regarding Gudas, Philly might want the Leafs goalie prospect for one, who is presently 4th on the depth chart.
Dermot and Hainsey could easily play 2nd pairing minutes. all the complaining about Zaitsev and Gardner why not make them 3rd pairing while Zaitzev can still play extra minds on PK.

The Leafs got a D-man they desperately needed right now! It will be impossible to know what LA got in return until we see how the prospects they got actually perform in the league. But this is very good news for Hogtown as it opens the door to an actual playoff run this year…

The 5-6 years contract is probably what Matthews want because the next league convention with players will raise the players salaries. That way he’ll renegotiate when he’s at his peak.
Babcock has a hard-on for Glendenning so I see him as the bottom 6 guy you mentioned.

Honestly I think this is a pretty good trade for both sides, the Leafs get a decent deal short term and the Kings will probably win long term.
