Elliotte Friedman on Elias Pettersson, Canucks deadline plans and more
Hockey Night in Canada Insider Elliotte Friedman joined the guys and talked about his report on teams calling to ask about Elias Pettersson’ future in Vancouver, what he expects from the Canucks at the deadline and more.
The noise is typical of the Vancouver market. A distraction that could seep into the dressing room, cause a distraction and disrupt a playoff run. So Vancouver.
Time to show Greedy Petey it is not all about him. Pettersson said he just wants to play on a winning team. The Canucks have done their part to try and make him happy. Greedy Petey is causing nothing but a distraction! Time to send a message, and trade him for a big return now. He has let his teammates and fans down by holding out on an extension.
The fans and the media are terrible in this city. The petterson situation is a non issue. Either they sign him or they deal him, itās that simple.
Petterson is not getting dealt at the deadline. Whoever thinks that should not be taken seriously. However, if the price tag is as high as they are saying itās gonna be to sign him in the off season? Bye bye petey!
Trade him for a couple of pucks and a hockey stick. I donāt like his game heās a horrible skater heās a turnover machine and heās too brittle, just my opinion. I think heās gonna get munched in the playoffs when itās big boy hockey.
Not trying to give Friedge a hard time here, but it's kind of funny how he specifically was the guy that broke this 'story' on the National broadcast and now is trying to frame it as "People are talking about this because the market in Vancouver blah blah blah."
Like come on man just take ownership of what you yourself started: People are talking about this because you brought it up. Love Friedman but it's a bit of a backhanded shot to try and blame this on Vancouver fans caring too much about their team.
Elliot, this is the dumbest speculation, correction this does not rate as speculative, and you are at National Enquirer level. A lot of talking and talking garbage. Horrible on your part and just stirring up crap.
This story has been circulating in other markets so it is going to be talked about here. We have some heavy OEL cap penalty coming over the next three years. Petty is an elite player Vancouver could get some good young and cheaper assets for, potentially. As good as Petty is I don't think Vancouver is going to pay him 12 plus mil per season, which is rumoured what he wants. If Petty is still unsigned by draft day I would think they would want to move him then. After that sign Lindhom and move on. For me Petty goes silent for too many stretches in the season to pay that kind of money. Also can you have a competitive cup team with not enough money to go around? Look at the Leafs right now.
Pettersson is tying the managements hands. He claims he wants to play on a winner, but wont sign so management knows how much money they will have to work with to sign the key UFAs. The kid is some kind of special, and not in a good way. Trade him for Jack and Luke Hughes.
Media when Canucks are bad: trade everyone so that we can make the playoffs next season.
Media when Canucks are good: trade one of the best players in the league so that we don't make the playoffs this season or at least lose in the first round so that we can go back to criticizing the team's poor performance .
Absolutely! Petey plays all positions except in goal. He is jostled between wing, centre, pp, pk, defense on pk, paired with all kinds of players for training, he plays for all the coaches, not prima-Donna. He scores goals, racks up assists for many players. He is not a wrecking ball and neither were the sedins early on. People here want the explosive fair and dont recognize persistent skill value and talent overall for the team. He is not a prima-donna as some players are, and deserves to be protected. He would definitely prove an asset to any team that takes him and at that time, an albatross against van. Petey has integrity, to heššwith playing for a temper. Integrity lasts out. No primaDonna here.
If management and Petey have no trouble not negotiating right now, fans should not have issues with this either. I get that it is uncomfortable not knowing what is going to happen, but the guy is going to be an RFA, not UFA, so it is not a situation where he will walk to another team and the Canucks will be left with nothing.
I do think though that management needs to seriously think if signing one or two elite players to massive deals is really the formula to a championship. Toronto has 3 or 4 players making 10 million a year, and they pay with a sub-par defence and suspect goaltending. Similar things can be said about the Oilers. If Petey is really to commend 12 million a year, under the hard cap era, would the team really have the resource to sign other pieces required to win it all? The Knights, Avs and Lightning won the Cup the last few years without anyone on the roster getting top dollars in the league. Is a 12-million dollar player more useful for a team's Cup aspirations than two 6-million dollar players?
The fact Donnie gave Virtanen a pass the entire time that fat ass was here but constantly rips on EP40 is why I canāt take a single thing Donnie says seriously anymore.
Honestly petey strikes me as a guy that doesn't appreciate the focal point. Hes a private guy. If youre gonna trade him and he doesn't sign, start the process now.
Either Petterson knows the canucks can't afford what he's asking & waiting for the canucks to free up some cap space & ged rid of players like Meyers! Or Petterson's playing the entitled privilege card knowing that they will have to treat him like a diva in order for him to sign. Either way I don't care if he signs or we deal him! I'd rather have someone like Nylander or Jack Hughes or Macklin Celebrini…over Petterson!

Trade Petey for Tage Thompson.

Per Elliott he's going to Pittsburgh Penguins lol

Pettersson can not skate. He is only good on the lotto line trade him if he wants to be a greedy savage.

Can you guys just leave this alone. It is getting a bit stale.
If āeveryone knows that the Canucks are going for itā, then everyone knows that they arenāt trading Petey. Just stop.

Vancouver has never won a cup and won't this year. They're trying to keep pace with the Leafs who haven't won one in almost 21,000 days.
What kind of team let's a guy walk and then brings him back, so stupid to be talking about it
Jesus Elliot can talk for like 6 minutes straight and not say a damn thing
The fact Donnie gave Virtanen a pass the entire time that fat ass was here but constantly rips on EP40 is why I canāt take a single thing Donnie says seriously anymore.
Talking Petterssonās contract EVERY.SINGLE.DAY is boring.
We finally have WINS to talk about but you want drama.
pettersson is a snake, he's not resigning, trade this rat now before he shafts you and you get nothing lol

I heard Brady Tkachuk might be available. Canucks should consider trading Pettersson to Ottawa, if he doesn't re-sign in the Summer.
They are a winning team what he wants… Management has done alot of trades to make this team even better and he still won't sign.
Elias Pettersson is a RED WING
Pettersson for Bedard straight up. Chicago pick up the phone!
