Tranquillement le meilleur défenseur offensif qu’on a depuis Subban. Petry était bon mais Matheson est 10x plus dynamique comme patineur.

It seems that my biggest hot take is that we should strike while the iron is hot and trade him before he declines. Not necessarily this deadline or even this offseason, but at some point, we need to cash in on players that aren’t likely to be here when we’re contending. And if management does think he’ll still be around, they need to start trading some young LDs while they still have value. I just don’t see how we can fit all of Matheson, Guhle, Hutson, Xhekaj, Struble, Harris (though already on the trading block), even if some of them play RD (given Mailloux/Barron/Reinbacher). There are only so many roster spots!

All the people wanting to trade Matheson….one big contributor to Slaf’s point production is service from Suzuki and guess who…Matheson. We need to keep good players to help grow the rest of our team.

Its not Mathesons ability to produce points that I have a problem with. He’s very good at that and as this chart demonstrates one of the leagues best at it. His practical on ice skills are very good.

My issue with Matheson is his amazing ability to almost always do the wrong thing but his practical abilities help rectify or fix a lot of these mistakes. A few areas where it’s really noticeable are on the blueline when attempting to keep the puck in, it’s even worse when hes the only D-man on the PP. The other area is when he’s recovered the puck behind our net, especially under even a small amount of pressure. In transition in the neutral zone he’s pretty alright but I firmly believe it’s because he has no time to stop and think about the situation as you are aggressively moving up the ice.

He doesn’t seem to understand the concept of the simple play. He’s got 8-9/10 hockey skills but a 4/10 hockey IQ. He doesn’t have the mind to match his abilities and it rears it’s ugly head alot.

still like him though and believe he is an asset to our team. He just belongs on the 2nd pair.

Sometimes he just ghasts my flabber so badly that I want to scream into my Cole Caufield body pillow.

I like him but has anyone else noticed how many times he misses the net on wide open shots and how many times he turns the puck over when skating backwards. Im not in favour of trading away good veterans during a rebuild but considering his current value I don’t think it would be unwise to shop him and try to get a haul for him.

But again, I like him, I see his value so not
    Opposed to keeping him either
