I feel like they’re trying to have Bains be like DJ but he doesn’t play that hardnosed style. Hronek needs to shoot more. Demko needs to steal games.

Starting to get flashbacks to that 2013-2014 Torts year where the team completely imploded post Christmas break and missed the playoffs after a pretty good start to the year.
Now, this team has obviously banked enough points to where the playoffs should be a lock. But man, it’s hard not to feel a bit concerned. The best players (aside from Miller) aren’t performing. The power play is DREADFUL. They are turning pucks over and giving up odd man rushes left and right. This looks like the worst of the Bruce Boudreau era Canucks.
There’s what, 22 games left in the year? They need to win like 8 to make the playoffs. Yet you still can’t shake this feeling that they’re going to do the most Canuck thing ever and make it way, way more dicey than it ever should have been. Unbelievable.

Yo the Canucks played absolutely fine against the Jets, Wild (the collapse aside), and Avs. Tonight was the first game where they actually played poorly 5 on 5. I’m still not that worried about them. The power play is a concern for sure, but you gotta think they’ll figure it out sooner than later.
First NHL game that I’ve been to, I expected to see the best team in the national hockey league and a regular nhl team. Ended up seeing a bunch of donkeys and a regular nhl team.

The problem is people started to think we were the best team in the league, a wagon, a real top tier contender.
We have a GREAT team. But we are not a team like that and that shouldn’t be a shock to anyone. We were barely thinking playoffs before the year. This is a massive jump already, let’s not go overboard with expectations.

This was a really poor game played by the guys tonight, no compete and just sorta cruised, I think this is starting to look like a real slump and signs of the old canucks creeping in. Bad habits, poor powerplay and bad PK is not a recipe for success. I hope toch cracks the whip and takes the boys for a bag skate because these guys aren’t playing like they give a shit right now. Disgusting game.

4 straight regulation losses, fucking shit
Issues right now:
– Tocchet’s system requires 100% effort all the time. The boys can’t keep it up and we hardly look recognizable compared to the start of the year – not forechecking hard, not fast, not skating forward.
– Lindholm was not a star acquisition. He’s fine as a depth player but he adds little to this team, and he doesn’t bring the speed and compete level that makes our identity. If we’re firing like early in the year, yeah he can join in. But he’s not gonna turn the tables in games like this.
– Juulsen, while a great story, can’t keep up as a regular. Zadorov is not much beside him, Cole is tired, and Myers is Myers. Our top pair is gassed and the rest are 5-6D swimming out there.
– Hoglander is not a consistent enough player to be in your top 6. When he’s firing, sure move him up. But he’s hyper streaky on whether he’s impacting the game positively or not. His best place is running the 4th line, where it’s okay if he’s quiet sometimes and a huge boon when things are clicking.
– Pettersson just can’t impose his will on the game. Maybe he will in time. But he can’t seem to take these games over, which is what everyone is so desperate to see.
– Saw the Boeser decline coming. No way this was going to be some 45 goal year. He is what he is, and he’s ice cold right now. Hopefully it comes back by the playoffs.
– Miller is the heart of the team right now and there’s only so much he can do. Garland is great, but he never seems to work with top players.
– Hughes hasn’t been good in a while. He’s still good cause he’s Hughes, but he hasn’t been special, especially defensively.
– Soucy will forever be underrated. He’s the most stable D on our team besides Hughes.
BUUUUUT
– Losing streaks happen to everyone.
– We’ve got lots of time for a change in momentum.
– It’s gonna be okay.
I don’t know anything statistical, but we are somehow managing to be a top tier team. Just enjoy it and hope we make it past the 1st round. Honestly, it seems as if this buffer in points is just a way for Tocchet to mess the lines around and see what works. — just my two cents
Watch literally any other top player like McDavid or Mackinnon or even Bedard, they play like they’re worth it.
Wow, Tocchet [absolutely ripped them](https://www.nhl.com/canucks/video/postgame-tocchet-at-kraken-6347441991112) in the post-game presser. Says he takes the blame for this one for not motivating the guys enough, said outside of the first ten it was sloppy and a “comedy of errors”, said “this is not even close to playoff hockey”.
Hard to stay mad at Tocchet, frustrating as the special teams may be I felt he was on point with everything. When asked if he was happy about having a week to practice he looked the reporter dead in the eye and said “we got Boston on Saturday, 4pm” hahaha. I’m glad there’s no rose-tinted glasses behind the coaching bench, team needs some serious work but at least they acknowledge it.
