We really need to talk about Ovechkin…

Alexander Ovechkin is closing in on Wayne Gretzkys record for the most goals scored, but will he make it after his slow start this season?

  1. He absolutely breaks the record. I don’t see him stopping until he does. And I know there’s a team that will sign him just from what the publicity of breaking the record would do for that team

  2. Most “interesting” record? You meant to say the biggest personal performance record for a player: most goals all time.
Please stop downgrading Ovi like he’s some has been who didn’t almost single-handedly save the NHL over the course of an incredible career. Sure, he had a ‘slow’ first half… ever lose a parent? It realigns one’s priorities. He will catch Wayne and be too goal scorer all time. And we will be able to say that we watched the best play.

  3. I hope he does it. I’m a pens fan and the Sid/Ovi era has been a blessing to experience. Hope he does it in Pittsburgh and I hope I’m in the building.

  4. Ovi is aging as a player and not playing with the same line mates he had in his prime. Gretzky was a protected asset for the NHL back in the 80's and guided to his records with lots of help..(Refs, Pocklington, McSorley, Edmonton mob betting worth millions)..the list goes on and isn't a shocker. Hope AO smashes the record someday!!

  5. He breaks it by 5. Mentally he'll be fighting it in stretches which makes the physical game that much more of a grind as he ages (obviously) but he'll be in the office enough times to keep the "old man" comments at bay!
    ☺️

  6. Really hope he doesn’t break it. Not a fan of standing in one spot waiting for his teammates to pass him the puck.

  7. Ovechkin is a good friend of Putin and supports his actions. That's all you have to know about him. It doesn't look like anyone talks about it or even cares, but I do and so should you.

  8. Hater. Ovi will easily break the record. He’s been the most unlucky player this season. Check his shooting percentages and Xg.

  9. Your showing a replay of the game that he scored 2 goals in which makes it 8 goals in his last 8 games not 5 in his last 5.

  10. If the NHL lockout season and the pandemic shortened season didn’t happen we would be watching him break the record right now, he probably would have at the least 40 more goals if those games weren’t canceled. But I still see him breaking it sometime in 2025-26 season.

  11. Man I was watching a video of Gretzky and his four 5 goal games in the 80’s, and I swear man those goal tenders back then looked like a rec league goalies and their pads were so small compared to goalies now. I mean the difference in difficulty scoring goals in Gretzky’s era was much easier compared to Ovechkin’s era which makes the fact that Ovi May break his record that much more impressive.

  12. to watch an unbreakable record be set and to see someone break it is kind of amazing. breaking karem's point record was something no one thought could happen. whether ovi breaks it or not, i just want to watch as he gets closer each game.

  13. I think the only thing that can hold him back from Gretzky's record is if he gets injured.

To play with the idea that at the end of the contract he is 10-20 goals behind,
I think Ovechkin would sign on for another year… I mean the NHL profits from it, there has probably never been as much reported about every goal he scores as it does right now, and think it's too enticing for Ovechkin not to want.

  14. As a Pens fan, I hope he does in Pittsburgh and I’m there. Or just hope he gets one shy and is like. Could have done it, but didn’t.
