what the fuck is the pp unit? changes need to be made asap because 0/5 is embarrassing. also jeff petry needs to retire. or be moved. i’d give him away for free at this point
Lyon has allowed 4+ goals in 4 of 10 games where kane has played. In 12 games without kane, only once. We are going to fall out of a playoff spot again with kane in the line up just like what happened earlier until he got hurt. I said he would ruin team chemistry. It has. Plain and simple. He puts up points but at the cost of everyone else either getting less opportunities or being in spots they wouldn't have been if kane wasn't in the line up.
At some point they need to mix up the pp. Shoot more and create chaos, stop looking for the perfect pass. Also Petry continues to amaze me on how bad he is. Just buy him at this point.
I’m trying to not overreact here but, can we please just try having all of our best players on the first PP unit? Larkin, Raymond, DeBrincat, Kane and Seider might not go 0/5. Ghost is a turnover machine, Perron is too slow to do anything productive at this point… the only guy I’m fine with being on PP1 is Compher so we have a second center out there but something has to change. Vancouver, Tampa, Edmonton, Colorado, Toronto etc. all overload their first PP unit with their stars and they seem to have success, that can’t be a coincidence. Balance is important, but idk what Tanguay is thinking.
I adore Lyon’s positivity, if he can make some big saves early on against Calgary I’m sure that will be the impetus the guys need for that spark. (I’m absolutely not putting it all on his shoulders, but I know it can help.) If Reimer is in, same goes for him.
Would like to see more quality shots on goal rather than trying to make complicated plays. Also feels like we’re sitting back and watching the opposition make the plays and reacting to it in the early periods, rather than implementing and being more aggressive on the puck. However, I love the depth of this team, every line feels rights to me, they just need to get back in the groove after the break.
I know I’m going to take some heat on this; there’s a couple of players I think go down too easy, trying to draw a penalty… to me, that’s a soccer play, keep it out of hockey, it doesn’t belong here. Play with heart and integrity and you’ll get the goals, stop trying to draw penalties. Just my opinion, but I don’t like it. 🤷🏻♀️
I have faith in this team, I’m excited to watch them. I’ve not felt this way since 2008. As Valddy’s (and Sergei’s) patch said: Believe ✨ LGRW!
(Also, I think Newsy is good for this team. I’d rather have a coach that encourages with humour and intelligence than a coach who looks like he’s going to have a coronary on the bench… ahem, Patrick Roy! 👀)

I was never a fan of Kane coming to Detroit. All he offers is some offense. He has no defensive game. Everytime he's on the ice, the Wings are only playing with a 4 man defense. It's like the opponents are on a power play.
What I'm figuring is this. If the Wings don't snap out of it and play for 60 minutes, they will not make the playoffs this year. And if this skid continues, Stevie Y needs to think about bringing up some of the following: Edvinsson, Pelikka, Danielson, Marco Casper, Trey Augustine, Cosa, etc. If Lyon and this current defense continue to allow goals into our net, Wings will need to concentrate on building a strong defense from their draft picks and start bringing them up before the end of the season. In theory, Wings have potentially the best draft picks for the near future currently playing in the minor leagues, so Wings management should consider giving them some exposure before the end of the season. Those star draft players are not going to want to remain with the Wings in the minor leagues indefinitely. They, like other previous NHL stars, have that ambition to play in the big leagues.
How did the wings become this old slow team literally overnight? Steve Yzerman needs to stop signing the senior citizens movement. It's as if he's gone out last 2 years and completely ruined the youth movement to try and secure the last spot in the playoffs.
Start with Kane sell sell sell. Get our young player up ASAP
Petry and Holl are probably Stevie’s biggest mistakes. Perron is a class guy and great for the room but his game couldn’t afford to lose a step which he clearly has. I believe the team is -5 for the year 5 on 5. That has to be better. Can’t just rely on the PP.
Low expectations year, enjoy this. They are what they are any given night. The future is not this. There may be 4 people left from this roster in 4 years.
I was at this game and disappointed in our PP. Vancouver capitalized on the chances they had. Petry was frigging awful and he could played that clearing attempt differently. Then he took that four minute high sticking penalty fortunately we killed it.

Lalonde keeps saying he’s confident in Reimer. But he’s played him once in 20 games. I see his nose growing.
