The only way I see this working is a pre-planned draft day deal where our first rounder is in play and Hughes can trade out if the players he likes are gone by the time we pick.

at 20 he put up 61 points (on pace for 67), Suzuki put up 41 (on pace for 47) at the same age
the top 6 would be looking like Suzuki, Slaf, Cole, Zegras, Dach, (FA/Trade/Draft), that would be amazing

Not super interested in Zegras. While he is flashy, can he produce without premier opportunities/minutes? Can he be a net positive player on a cup contending team? I don’t think so. Not a fan of his style, he is soft.

Would love it but i have a hard time coming up with a proposal that the ducks would accept. They’re packed in terms of D prospect, our strongest assets. Our next two 1st round picks are maybe too good to trade, same with CGY’s. WPG’s not good enough…

I’m surprised by the shade being thrown at Zegras in this sub the last couple of week. Getting this player would be beyond amazing for our club for the right price. I don’t get people saying he is over rated. Last season if he was on our team he would have been nearly tied with Suzuki for the team lead in points (65 pts in 81 games). The year prior he had 61 pts in 75 games as a 20 year old. All this while playing with *checks notes* Sonny Milano. He is an elite offensive talent and if you can give up 2 late first rounder s and good prospect your absolutely do it. MB in his tenure always said that players like this do not become available, if we have a chance at one we should take it.

A little off topic but if were willing to give up a 1st + for someone like Zegras we should consider prying a disgruntled David Jiricek from CBJ maybe instead. Hes a top 4 RD in the making and we could ship winnipegs pick + one of our LDs log jamming the left side to make room for a pretty solid talent on the right side. Would round off a top 4 D core nicely with Hutson and Reinbacher in the mix.
Just IMO a really talented RD has a bit more value than Zegras. The offence hopefully comes with the emergence of slaf &more consistent health with dach and Newhook.
