GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Panthers (02.14.24) | Ludvig Scores First NHL Goal

Wednesday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins hosted the Florida Panthers for the third match-up this season between the two clubs. The 1st period didn’t see a goal from either team. It was also a low shot period, only seeing seven total shots between both teams. Early in the 2nd, the Penguins thought they took the first lead, but the goal was called off due to a high stick. Florida responded right after with two back-to-back goals separated by 34 seconds. The first goal was scored by Matthew Tkachuk for his 18th on the season. The Panthers took advantage of a 3v2 situation, capitalizing on the shot by Tkachuk. The second goal was scored by Jonah Gadjovich and was also his second of the year. Brandon Montour took a shot from the blue line with traffic in front. Waiting for the tip, Gadjovich got the Panther’s second goal of the night. Using the quickly built momentum, the Panthers added a third goal to their total. Passing the puck to the blue line from the opposite corner, Aaron Ekblad skated into the zone until he felt pressure and shot the puck into the back of the net. That was Ekblad’s third goal of the season. Just when it felt the Penguins were starting to build their momentum, the Panthers found the back of the net once more. This goal was scored by Anton Lundell, his fifth of the season, to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead. Towards the end of the 2nd, The Penguins finally found the back of the net. Jake Guentzel gathered the puck in the high slot and shot through traffic to find the back of the net. Halfway through the 3rd, the Panthers added to their lead once again. Lundell got his second goal of the night. But the Penguins weren’t done just yet. John Ludvig went on the rush and just squeaked the puck past the goalie to get his first NHL goal and bring the score to 5-2. The Panthers finished the game with the lead and took the two points on the line home.

  1. I'll always have a soft spot for Florida after last year's first round elimination of Boston. It was a thing of beauty.

  2. Dont worry everyone we just have to “play the right way” & pay people more than crosby to come & be a liability
