In regards to Greig and specifically with Boone Jenner, Greig owned the Jackets last night too. He was physical, battled in front of the net and got the blue jackets more and more agitated. Goon Jenner spent the better part of the back half of the game yelling. He got a knee on knee collision and still played like a warrior the rest of the game.

Steve hit the nail on the head in regards to the spezza suspension reduction, and its probably a portion of why reilly got five games.
I think if a suspension is 6 games or longer, it's opened up to the possibility of a third-party appeal. If the suspension is 5 or less the suspension is handled by betman.
Betman knew a third part arbitrator would reduce spezzas suspension, so he did it. With 5 games, any appeal will go to betman, and he will have more control.

Oilers fan here to shed light on Connor Brown. In my opinion Brown has been a decent bottom 6 player, he has been great in the PK and as the season has gone on he’s gotten quicker and looked more comfortable. He has had pretty good chances the last month or 2 but it’s been obviously that not having a goal is on his mind. He has been just a hair slow on a few shots, or has had the goalie make an above average save more often than not. I’d like to see him up in the top 9 for a game or two mainly because he looks better now then he didn’t start the season and I’m curious to see if another chance with more ice time and more skill around him would help him get out of the slump.
It’s a bummer he will be 3.5million against the cap next year but I think he can salvage this season with a goal and be a contributor. All that being said I think on ice okay wise Gagner should be ahead of Brown and Janmark (when Gagner’s hips are having a good day)
i went back and watched that clip. in my opinion its worse than that hit. because he is using his stick to crosscheck directly to the head dale was a dirty body check.
I am a passionate fan of the show, but the pace was often a bit slow and there was a bit too much repetition in this one.
The Dale Hunter comparison isn't as crazy as you make it out to be, the plays themselves are very similar, the major difference is the effectiveness in the delivery of the justice that was intended.
Connor Brown is Exhibit B of the case for “Nurse isn’t the worst contract in the NHL, he isn’t even the worst in his own franchise”. Exhibit A is Jack Campbell. Nurse is at least a useful complementary top pairing defenceman.
I think 2 things are true:
1. Steve and Co. are absolutely right about the reaction not falling out of the sky, and that a reaction isn’t unwarranted. However the reaction can’t be a headshot
2. Ridley Greig sees Reilly coming from his peripheral and within less than a second of actually looking at him he is getting a stick to the face, so yes, it’s reasonable to say he didn’t see it coming quite literally in the physical sense.

Playoff seeding should be top 2 in each division, the rest of the conference scrambles for 4 wild card spots, 1v8 that (in theory) rewards division leaders

My dad’s favourite team was the Leafs. I don’t care for the Leafs. But if they win the cup, I’ll be there to put a little Stanley cup on my father tombstone. I’m an Oilers fan and my dad felt the same way about my team. I’d like to think that as a hockey fan we know the “inside rules” and follow them.
Most sports have paid off refs on the constant TAKE. It has been proven in the NFL recently but they really can cover it up so its impossible to get hard evidence.

They keep saying that it only happens to the Leafs that there's stiff penalties to the Leafs, completely ignoring the super recent 5 game suspension to Galagher, and the 6 games for the super similar crosscheck by Perron. I'm so sick of the it's his first offence thing too, you don't get a freebie.
If Buffalo think they're better than other teams, they need to show up in a lot more games. Every season is the season that Ottawa and/or Buffalo are due to move up the standings and every season it doesn't happen, but next season will be different, probably, maybe… Meanwhile it's the Yzerplan in Detroit and Torts inspiring Philly into playoff spots.
Connor Brown was able to sign that contract with that kind of bonus because he missed basically the entire previous season. Brown has been really great on the penalty kill and has had a ton of really great chances to score that it's nuts he hasn't gotten at least one.
I'm plenty critical of PLD, but he did play really well against the Oilers and had a PPG
Tyler Myers got blown up twice by Jimmy Slater once with Atlanta and another with Winnipeg. Slater wasn’t the biggest but was an absolute animal though.
When I was listening to Steve talk about media bias against the Leafs I was thinking "I hope he watched Julian's take on the CJ show" because it was very apparent he is anti-Leafs or does not know hockey as much as he thinks he does.

It's about balance and body position, strength is part of it but just like everything else, there's always someone stronger or faster or smarter. Fighting on ice is completely different than fighting on your feet.
