As the Toronto Maple Leafs came into the Ottawa Senators barn, the stage was set for a great Hockey Night in Canada..and it was. From Auston Matthews getting the scoring going with his 42nd, Shane Pinto having himself a great night with a goal two assists, Sheldon Keefe mocking Tim Stutzle for diving and of course Morgan Rielly responding to Ridly Greig’s empty net goal with a brutal cross check to the head in a play that has no place in the NHL. Went to a game last night, so I'm late on this one but how many games does Rielly get? In person hearing scheduled, so I'd imagine it's 5+

A response would be called for, like getting up in his grill and dropping the gloves. But a blind side two handed stick to the neck. Thats a bitch move. Keefe is just an AHL coach at best. The Leafs will never win with him at the helm.
Imagine if in the MLB a batter got fed up with his pitches and turned around and took a hard swing into the side of the catcher’s head. It would be a suspension for a season at least and probably assault charges. The fact this play won’t even get mentioned in a couple days goes to show you how violent the NHL is.

It’s really sad to see how dumb most Leaf haters are and that they only see what they want to see, as long as it supports their hate of the Leafs. It’s so clear on the slow motion replay that the initial point of contact was with Grieg’s shoulder, and Rielly’s stick rode up to his face while deflecting the cross check. I know I won’t be able to get the Leaf haters to take their moronic blinders off to convince them otherwise, so will just point out how stupid and pathetic you all look to me with your take that it was as dirty a hit as you’re making it out to be. I’m not condoning what Rielly did was right, but FFS, it isn’t as vicious as some of you soft losers are making it out to be! Geez!

Ultimate scumbag move by the coach…. This is 99% of the issue with headhunting in the NHL when coaches put their goons out and encourage unnecessary violence like this. Usually from no talent players. But no talent coaches that think violence will solve their teams inadequacies should be getting fined whenever a player under their coaching goes too far like this. didn't bother watching after the empty netter. I said "What a prickish thing to do." and turned off the tv. It certainly did not deserve a cross check to the head, but it deserved something. That would be like Matthews doing one of his celebrations after scoring the sixth goal in a 6-0 game. You just don't do that.

It only shows that Mr. Rielly is not a man.. A man would have done it when it mattered not after he's shown to be playing for the losing team. If he was a winner he would have used the defeat to motivate himself and his team to not let it happen again.
I’m not a leafs or senators fan, but Morgan Reilys’ response suits the crime. Its a greasy move to take liberties on an empty net and the players that do it know what they’re doing and why they’re doing it. Greig should have been ready to drop the gloves after he did it. Instead he froze up and got dropped. It was a b**ch move from a rat player.
As a team, Ottawa is in last place, they should be embarrassed to pull stuff like that. I dunno what has happend to the game when people don’t understand action and reaction anymore.

His reaction was appropriate. You don't disrespect an opponent the way Greig did, he was deliberately provoking a reaction. He got one. However, Reilly should have known better than that. Rub him out, yes, but a cross check to the head is too far. Deserves a suspension, but no more that 2-3 games.
