Not shouting at anybody and asking politely sure would make it easier to get an autograph

“Slafkovský: It was worth it in Košice
A great Slovak talent in an exclusive blog from Montreal about a short trip to Slovakia and cooperation with a shooting coach
Author Juraj Slafkovský – exclusively for NHL.com/sk

2022 draft pick Juraj Slafkovský enters his second NHL season with the Montreal Canadiens. In it, too, the closely watched attacker will write an exclusive blog for NHL.com/sk, in which he will share with the readers his experiences of life in Canada and the events on the ice. In the next part, he talked about the break for the All-Star Weekend, during which he jumped home to Košice, about two goals in Washington and how he and ‘Dr. Shot’ cooperates in shooting.
During the Star Weekend, I was at home in Košice, visited my family and saw all my friends. The flight was long, but I had a fairly quick connection in Zurich to Budapest, where my father picked me up. Back again from Budapest via Munich, so it wasn’t so bad. There is no substitute for home, I was there for a total of five days and it was worth it.
I also went there for hockey, Košice against Banská Bystrica. So I saw the boys from Košice and one of my best friends, Roman Faith, who plays for Banská Bystrica.
In Montreal, I’m glad there’s still something going on. Matches, training, some events, we travel a lot. So there is still work to do and I don’t mind. Of course, I miss my mother’s home cooking here in Montreal from Slovakia, but I also enjoyed it now in Košice.
We played the first game after returning to the NHL in Washington, and the Slovak ambassador to the United States was also supposed to come to watch, who ended up being sick, but people from the embassy were there. I am very glad that they are interested. Even when we played in Ottawa, people from the Slovak embassy in Canada came. All in all, I’m glad that people in Slovakia are interested and watching the NHL more.
However, hockey is probably the most popular here in Montreal anyway. Even though in Slovakia people live with it quite a bit, in Montreal it’s probably a bit crazier. However, I have my own places where I go and it’s quite peaceful there. When it is necessary and someone does not shout at me, I try to accommodate everyone if someone wants to take a picture or ask for an autograph.
In Washington, I managed to score two goals, and finally they were a little better than the ones I scored before – such as the ones from the area in front of the goal, where there were also some bounced pucks from the leg and the like.
Slafkovski’s two goals against the Capitals
I’m very happy to play all the matches, because I’ve been preparing for it since last spring, when I didn’t play due to injury. I tried to strengthen my muscles a lot to withstand the load of the whole season and I feel that it helped me.
We still have 32 games until the end of the season. I will try to constantly improve them. I’m glad that I have the coach’s trust, he gives me a lot of time on the ice and I play with good teammates, so I get to the puck more and overall I’m playing well. I’m glad that people around me believe in me and I think it’s going in the right direction.
It’s like night and day compared to last season. A year ago I felt a little lost on the ice, everything was new and there weren’t that many opportunities. Now I feel that I can help the team and create something offensively. I have already experienced everything, I feel good and I can focus on how to improve individual things. For example, on the shot I work with coach Glen Tucker, who is nicknamed Dr. Shot. The coaches here are great, but it’s nice to do something extra and then use it in the matches.”
