For those blocked by a paywall, the 5 teams Vince mentions are the ones we’ve heard about for a while:

    1. Anaheim (Henrique, Vatrano, Silfverberg)
    2. Nashville (Novak, McCarron, Trenin, Foudy, Jankowski)
    3. Ottawa (Tarasenko, Chychrun, Kubalik)
    4. San Jose (Hoffman, Duclair, Barabanov, Labanc, Granlund, Sturm)
    5. Seattle (Eberle, Wennberg, Tatar, Gourde)

It feels like Anaheim and Seattle will be too expensive, so my guess is something happens with Nashville and/or San Jose.

Seems like Anaheim and Seattle are in the lead for now

  3. Krispyford

Just sign Phil the Thrill. No trades required.

  4. All I want is Tarasenko back. I think he didn’t have enough time to gel and the second tour will be far more successful.

San Jose still seems like the best fit. They need young bodies. A trade like Robertson and Sykora would keep future draft capital and both guys make San Jose’s team next year.

You get Sturm for 2 years and have a shot to even extend Duclair with the cap going up.

Other the past week or so I’ve come to the conclusion that getting Gourde/Tatar or Gourde/Eberle from Seattle is the best fit imo. Gourde has speed and is good offensively but not a wreck defensively, would fit well as the 3C, would just have to figure out the cap hit. Tatar would be more of a cheap flyer but he has speed, is defensively responsible for a winger and has shown good offensive capabilities in the past (like last year in that first round series with NJ 😬)

Eberle obviously is the more proven offensive name and is definitely good, I just wonder if the cost might be a bit prohibitive considering name value/veteran experience and the like. I haven’t looked into it much but almost wonder if Tatar might be a better fit with 20/93 than Eberle.

Seattle and Ottawa have my favorite options

We need a center and a winger, we have to offer our center and/or winger that they replace, plus picks and prospects. Realistically we should be able to get either a center and tarasenko or vatrano. My ideal moves would be Henrique and tarasenko.

  9. Superrandy

I think we have to prioritize RW1 over C for a couple reasons. The center market is fucking awful. Most of them are shit and expensive. Few of them would actually improve our team. And our 3rd line plays like 10 minutes a night. Ultimately that 3rd line center isn’t moving the needle for us unless they’re a truly great player and those aren’t available.

A RW1 is important if we want to unlock that first line. At the end of the day if we don’t get that first line going then we are going absolutely nowhere in the playoffs. I don’t give a shit who are bottom six centers are, if that top line isn’t producing then it’s over. Teams in the playoffs will focus on shutting down the bread line, we have to have another line that can score. So take your pick for who works best with Mika and Kreider and get it done.

  10. 1. pass on all 3 of Henrique/Vatrano/Silfverberg. NYR needs 5v5 playdriving. if anything, the best thing they could do is buy low on Zegras. he’d be the immediate and long-term solution to NYR’s inability to play in transition at 5v5. i don’t know why there’s been zero rumored interest from NYR on him. the only somewhat logical player to trade Kakko for would be someone like Zegras, although players like Othmann are the kind that Verbeek loves, and a trade formed around Othmann for Zegras would be interesting.

    2. Novak is the only one on Nashville who would help NYR’s 5v5 offense, but his very poor defense basically wipes out all of that offensive value. Trenin and McCarron aren’t particularly different from Pitlick

    3. Tarasenko won’t help playdriving, and Chychrun and Kubalik have been awful this season. NYR has better players on their own team for free

    4. Duclair is a solution to NYR’s top line RW issue if they refuse to put Kakko back up there. Labanc would be a great 3RW acquisition. not particularly interested in the rest

    5. Eberle and Tatar are the best players mentioned in the article. cost will probably be too high. Wennberg isn’t good.

fact of the matter is that NYR’s biggest problems (Goodrow and Wheeler) could easily be solved in-house with a simple insertion of Berard and Edstrom into the lineup, which would also be the least-costly way of fixing their problems. Getting Goodrow/Wheeler out and those guys in would have more of a positive impact on NYR (via addition by subtraction) than they would get from basically anybody in a trade. you’re only as strong as your weakest link

As a Trenin truther for the past few years, I really hope they get him.

  12. high5sexwhoa

I’ll take one Tarasenko and one Gourde please

  13. FinnsterBaby

I’m definitely a Trenin fan. They should also try to pry both Hartman and Duhaime from MIN. Both are gritty, playoff-type performers who fill our specific needs. Hartman gives us more flexibility with him able to be slotted in as a RW or C. Hartman currently makes $1.7m but signed an extension thru ‘27-28 at 4m per year and Duhaime is making 1.1m on a contract that expires this year. Minnesota has 2 more years of dead cap hell (14.7m dead cap space due to Parise & Suter buyouts) so they would need youngsters on an ELC, draft picks or cost-effective vets. I could envision Jones, our 1st and two B-Level prospects like Trivigno & Henriksson(?)

  14. Neans888

I’d like Henrique and Barabanov. With the caveat that I’m not giving up a 1st in a deal for either of them. I don’t love Henrique but his ability to play center and wing just makes too much sense. Anyone can get injured between now and the playoffs and he can fill either of our top two needs.

As for Barabanov, I think he’s underrated and could be a steal depending on what SJ wants for him. Those are my head picks. My heart wants Tarasenko because I’ve wanted him to be a Ranger since his draft year when we botched it like usual.
