Yup, he’s just mad that he was looking backwards while skating forwards.

  2. jigglywigglydigaby

Clean hit, but if I threw that kind of check I’d be expecting something later on.

  3. StewieRayVaughan

The only thing that’s dirty here is his face

  4. sizable_data

He didn’t have the puck and wasn’t actively in a play, why is this a clean hit?

  5. CurlingTrousers

Nope. The puck is 30 feet the other way, a full 2 Mississippi after he passes it. Shitty, dirty hit.

  6. Fast-Performance9304

Yeah especially after those cross checks he dished out. This coming from a leaf fan

  7. TheRealHulkPanda

You could debate that it was late.

Other than that it’s clean and the leaf player got caught watching his own pass.

  8. BadaBingSecurity

If just looking at the contact…it is clean contact.

But in terms of when the hit occurred after the backhand pass…borderline.

Any two people could see it each way. Clean hit or dirty hit.

At the end of the day…keep your head up and look where you are going.

  9. Yes. Brutal, but yes haha. Don’t puck watch ever

  10. beingsupereasy

Yeah this was late. That’s the kind of play where reff has to call a 2 min I my opinion.

  11. ringrangbananaphone

I learned at age 11 to never do this exact thing to avoid that exact consequence

  12. PessimisticProphet

Another low IQ comment section. They want LESS INJURIES. Late hits ARE dirty hits. Stop hitting people when they are ineligible to be hit.

  13. ThePayneTrayne2

It is shoulder directly to the face. Yeah, McCabe does absolutely nothing to help himself in this situation but primary point of contact is the head and seemed avoidable. Play doesn’t feel nearly as fast or as much of a hockey play as the Dillon Hit.

  14. Pristine_Office_2773

    this is just 2 minutes

likely not called in the playoffs or in a close game

poor mccabe needed to pay attention..didnt watch the game, can’t recall if mccabe tried to fight the checker? not sure if mccabe fights tho, but this wouldve been a good opportunity for a leaf to stand up for mccabe

  15. _redacteduser

I’m starting to think my drunk beer league ass could ref at a professional level…

  16. LCKLCKLCK

If that’s a clean hit then my name is Wayne Gretzky

  17. CoolFox3218

A little late but was literally a second later if it was called 2 mins for interference I’d say ok yeah but dude needs to be aware of what’s coming and stop admiring his pass

  18. overzealous_wildcat

I see someone lifting their shoulder into defenseless player’s face who does not have possession

    Unnecessary

  19. Falcon3492

Another blown call by the inept NHL referees and the ref was almost on top of the play!

  20. InvestigatorFull2498

Would be 5 and a game if this happened to any other team hands down.

  21. The players don’t respect each other, that’s the problem. People say hockey players are top tier class wise but this shit happens multiple times a game. On another note I could care less I watch sports to see people get lit up 🙂

  22. mgnorthcott

Blood should initiate a review. Simple. I also think there should be an off ice official with the power to review tape and call penalties or make game decisions after play is stopped or by communication with on ice refs.

  23. NoSwitch

The NHL has made it pretty clear that they want more dangerous play and more injured players. It makes people watch and makes headlines.

  24. tllfkcchfjdjdhgacFac

Obviously not clean as he clearly has blood on his face from it

  25. ShinyVuIpix

It’s a penalty. I don’t think it’s more than that, but it’s 100% a penalty. The fact that the refs told Keefe it was a clean hit rather than just say they straight-up missed it was such a joke lol.

That it was a close game is the only thing that prevented things from turning really nasty, and it would have been the refs’ fault.

  26. Canadian_mk11

…did the refs stop the game to *make sure they got the call right*?

  27. PlusEnthusiasm1581

    Keep
    Your head up.

    —don “you people” cherry.

  28. His head was up

He touches the puck for less than a second, just to pass it back

The hit happens about a second-second and a half after he’s touched it

He turns around, with his head up, to get hit in the face. I don’t get why I keep seeing “keep your head up”. At the time of the hit, McCabe head is up.

Hit seems a little late to me, and on an unsuspecting player. It would be different if McCabe had possession and stick handled a bit or something, for marchment to gear up and go for the hit. But he has it for a split second.

    Am I taking crazy pills?

  29. VirusSoft6631

Not even remotely close to a clean hit. First let start with how long after he passed the hit was initiated. Definitely outside the allowable margin. Second, the point of contact appears to be the head. Third, at no point was there even an attempt to make a play on the puck, if there was then he doesn’t make the hit and he follows the pass.

At absolute minimum it should be two for interference. An argument could be made because of the head contact that it could be 5 and a game with a possible suspension from player safety. However, that would mean the nhl was actually serious about getting head shots out of the game and not just pandering to the fans without following through.

Edit: on further review he couldn’t have followed the pass with the direction he was going but he damn sure could have avoided making the hit.

  30. hersheysquirts7310

Nah, late hit and looks like to the head. Maybe 10 years ago that was considered clean but nowadays you can’t hit like that.

  31. Derpthinkr

It’s about as late as the rome hit on Horton

  32. Yoghurt3516

Ref in the NHL are a bunch of morons these days. At least they’re moronically consistent.
