THE NHL JUST MADE A MASSIVE MISTAKE…

That Montreal Canadiens vs New York Islanders game last night had some WILD moments, but none were as contentious as Brendan Gallagher and his HUGE hit on Adam Pelech…

But how bad was Brendan Gallagher’s hit on Pelech and match penalty, how much of a suspension will he get from NHL Player Safety? Let’s discuss this whole incident, and why the NHL likely won’t suspend him long enough…

  1. NHL Player Safety is out to lunch… What re YOUR thoughts on the Brendan Gallagher hit on Pelech? Do YOU agree with the NHL for suspending him 5 games or less? And how many games would YOU give Gally? I'd LOVE to hear YOUR thoughts! #GravGang #RoadTo75kSUBS

  2. NHL should suspend guilty players from the ligue for a lot more than that, they are not doing it because of the amount of $. They could suspend and send the player to a inferior ligue with full salary. This way the player and team would be penalized.

  3. The NHL isn’t a real league, well it is but the people in charge (Gary, department of player safety, etc) are a joke. Habs fan here and I personally wouldn’t have been upset it Gally was suspended the next twenty years. He’s just trying to make up for the fact that he is brutal now a days

  4. Agreed that the Gallagher suspension should be 8-10 games. But the McAvoy hit was far worse, IMO. Ekman-Larsson was nowhere near the puck, was completely unsuspecting, and McAvoy went directly for his head. At least you could argue on the Gallagher hit that he was anticipating Pelech straightening up and wasn't actually trying to hit him in the head. And unlike the McAvoy play, Pelech was the actual puck carrier when Gallagher decided to make the hit.

  5. With Gallagher sucker punching Barclay Goodrow a couple years ago and getting fined, this is his 2nd offense. This elbow was so brutal that the NHL needed to send a message. 5 games didn't do that.

  6. He'll get 2 or 3 games. That's the only punishement consistent with the league's rulings over the past

  7. Habs fan here. Gallagher is a liability out there anyway. He should get sussied for the remainder of the season. Trash play by a trash player. Hope pelech will be ok.

  8. When was the last time someone got a decently long suspension? If I'm not mistaken, it was Wilson nailing Sundqist during a preseason game, and he got 18 for that intentional. Yes, I know it's a different case with him as he had a history of suspensions before that incident, but an intentional hit to the head should be treated the same regardless of a history or not

  9. So you can get 41 games for ALLEGEDLY gambling and for potentially ruining someone’s career you get a max of 5 games. Come on NHL that’s an F**kin joke! If you want to crack down on head shots like you say you do this is a 10-15 gamer.

    Joke!

  10. Bettman only hires people that have had serious brain damage, Raffi toras would have gotten 50 games for that. Independent disaplinary panel is the only way to fix this.

  11. Gally gets his head ripped off in front of the net about 20 times a game, by guys twice his size, Pelech included. They never get called… Maybe it was just payback. Not excusing, of course, it's about time the NHL finally penalizes intentional hits to the head. But I've seen worse hits by bigger guys who've got off a lot easier.

  12. As a habs fan, its fucking stupid that he only got 5 games for that dirty hit. The man that is supposed to be a leader to our young players can't be doing this shit

  13. 100% agreed with you, I'm a Habs fan but I find that the suspension is way too light. There should not be any place for hits like that in hockey.

  14. End result if the NHL trying to get rid of fighting. Someone throwing cheap hits like that and going basically unpunished goes on too often these days.

  15. at first i thought it was fair cause i hardly ever see head hits get suspended for 5 games. but after seeing the play im fully on your side here.1/16th of a season would be fair for your average dirty play- your bully level antagonism, this was as brutal as the modano/scott stephens hit. thankfully with a less destructive result. im far more comfortable with deleting 1/8th of your season instead gally what were you thinking?

  16. Habs fan here. Gally should will get 3 or 4 based on what the league has given out to others for similar hits. Glad no one is making the knuckle dragging comment that Pelech should "keep his head up and stop admiring his pass" shit. It was not a "hockey play" and players need to stop head hunting. Gallagher deserves more but he won't get a lot. The league thinks head shots are ok.

  17. Not even a penalty when Perry took a two handed slash in the face during the playoffs a few years back. Musta missed your video about that

  18. As a Canadiens fan, I can see that there is a clear difference when it comes to Canadiens' players receiving suspensions and fines for incidents occurring on the ice. In opposition to your stance of let's throw the book at him, may we consider:

Chara cross checking Gally to the throat, and Chara. Chara got a two minute penalty and later, a $5000 fine. Gally got a check to the throat a roughing penalty.

In a playoff, game 5, Niskanen cross checking Gally to the face. There was no penalty on the play and Niskanen only received a one game suspension. Gally played the rest of the game with a broken jaw and some missing teeth. Gally missed the rest of the series.

Was it a bad hit, yes. Was it worth five games, not by the standard set by the NHL given the history of incidents against this player, or this team.

  19. 10 minimum. Clearly an intentional dirty hit with intent to injure, left both feet. Could have ended that guy's career, if not his life. Do that on the street to someone you get charged; do it in a jersey you get a week's vacation.

  20. Wasn’t a 5 gamer the max for a phone hearing? I guess maybe they should have had an in person meeting?

  21. Daniel Sedien was knocked out with a dirty elbow, after whistle ,during a line change. He was in the running for the Hart Trophy, out of hockey from March until playoffs. Duncan Keith got 5 games and was a cheap shot artist but was Teflon for all the injuries that he caused.

  22. The guy who got hit was not watching where he was going, he was watching the puck like a player in juniors. There should be no suspension, the league should show this clip to every player and explain to them you have to watch where you are going because if you don't you might get killed.

  23. It should have been more like 8–10 games. But I would like it to be worst for the team, something like you can't replace a suspended player, so in this case Montreal can't add a new forward for the next 5 games.

  24. First off comparing this to murder is ridiculous. If anyone has played the game knows you’re taught to drive through the check. That means your arms extend out. I don’t agree with him hitting the head or neck area but it looks like poor timing. It will be unpopular but that’s my opinion from someone who has played hockey for a very long time. No I’m not an expert and I’m not saying he shouldn’t be suspended. Just saying it looks way worse in slow motion.

  25. Lower Mainland kid, Gallagher has been my favourite Hab, for years. But DAMN, since November, he has been difficult to watch. Really kinda sad, frankly.

  26. 5 Games is the maximum under the rules. I understand you don't like the rules when they go against your desire but those are the rules, maybe they will get changed, maybe not. The NHL didn't make a mistake, they followed the rules agreed upon by the NHL and the NHLPA. As an opinion, he deserves a lengthy suspension, but we don't change the rules midstream
