[Pagnotta] Reacting to reports of Jake Guentzel receiving/rejecting a 6-year offer recently from the #LetsGoPens, I’m told from a team source there still aren’t any ongoing contract talks and those reports are inaccurate.

Whether he did or didn’t really doesn’t matter. Dubas wouldn’t lead with his best offer, and Jake would be foolish to accept the first offer he gets from us knowing the situation. It’s moot.
I trust the team telling us that this isn’t what actually happened as much as I trust the rumors. We will see if Dubas deals him and if so we will know why. If he doesn’t and then Jake signs an extension then the rumors were obviously garbage. We won’t know a damned thing until one side or the other does something out in the open

I don’t think it really matters. Jake is a rental for the month of February and if we don’t turn the ship around, which consists of a meaningful point streak/digging our powerplay out of the ground, then all packages should be entertained for Jake. The idea of just yoloing it to the off-season without a deal done makes me sick.

Also why would Jake want to stay for a rebuild? This team is quickly approaching 2018 onward Blackhawks. Not trying to be negative because I appreciate the run coming off the post Lemieux/Jagr ( gen next?) pre Sid pens, but if you take an honest look at the situation it is exactly where we are. 5 cups in 30 years was great, but they boys aren’t getting any younger.
