Back and Logan Thompson LT has kind of been carrying the load in this situation and you know Aiden Hill he’s been recovering trying to come back from injury trying to get back to your Vegas golden knights so for him to return to practice is a big deal now there is no
Timeline on when he will come back there is speculation that he will try to come back either the next game which would be Ottawa or the game after which would be Carolina now there is no confirmed reports obviously it’s all speculation but with Aiden Hill him coming back to
Practice him skating around at City National Arena it means you just have one more step for Aiden Hill to come back and for the defenseman Alec Martinez for him to return to practice that is a big deal for your Vegas golden knights considering the injuries that have kind of you know overwhelmed your
Vegas golden knights this season so to get a veteran in Alec Martinez him coming back to practice Mary coming back that is a big deal so Marty him being there that would be a big deal you know the defensive pairings right now you have hay you have
White Cloud you have McNab and bahal Hutton petrangelo I mean you do have some good defenseman but to have a veteran a multi-time Stanley Cup champion in Alec Martinez in Marty who could come back for your Vegas golden Knight that is a big deal so I will say
For Alec Martinez he is getting closer to coming back for your Vegas golden knights and with Aiden Hill as well that was the big pregame note look Logan Thompson is going to be in net for your Vegas golden knights now I am well aware and a lot of people are
Going to bring this up and I will bring it up as well Logan Thompson has been playing game in and game out he essentially has been an Iron Man over the last couple of weeks uh make no mistake about it Logan Thompson after the injury to Aiden Hill after the
Situation happened in Vancouver at the end of November he has played all but one game in the month of December so for a guy like Logan Thompson and by the way in that time span he has gone three and one during this time span after Aiden
Hill got hurt now we know that patara he had that game against San Jose where they won in a shootout but Logan Thompson starting his sixth game out of the last seven for Vegas golden knights and some people are recommending it including myself but there is a lot
Going on about Logan Thompson him being a net once again for your Vegas golden knights and depending on the Aiden Hill situation we will see how many more games in a row does Logan Thompson start for your Vegas golden knights now the whole first period in this game between
Buffalo and Vegas there was not a lot of action in the first period there was no goal scored and even the penalty chart it wasn’t that much I mean there was a Tage Thompson slashing penalty on Keegan Kazar there was a little bit of some back and forth that was happening in
This game but more importantly there was a lot of checking into the boards there were some good hits on transition especially on the four check and on the back check I mean there was a lot of good that was going on in the first period but overall it was a scoreless
Game 0 for Vegas and you know the main storyline was of course the Jack eel taking on his former team and they got Alex tuck on the opposite end taking on Vegas for Buffalo now as we move over to the second period for your Vegas golden
Knights this is when it started to get a bit interesting now a few minutes in Brett Murray for Buffalo for the second time in this game there would be a slashing penalty on Keegan Kazar so keing Kazar for the second time in this game Tage Thompson was the first one
Brett Murray was the second one the Vegas gold Knights would unfortunately not capitalize on the situation would not put the puck in the back of the net and then a few minutes later Chandler Stevenson will receive a roughing penalty on Matas samelson and you know Chandler Stevenson there was that
Situation with Philadelphia where he you know got a penalty for kind of overreacting in the Philadelphia game about a month ago now you have a situation here where he gets a roughing penalty against Samuelson you also had the Jack eichel in the pyton kreb situation which I found kind of funny uh
Jack eichel Cally uh trying to provoke a fight and there was a little bit of a scrum there on the side of the boards I found that to be quite interesting I mean I’ll give credit where credit is due Jack eikel is really good at getting people’s attention regardless of it’s
His offensive presence his toughness or just you know getting a little bit of a scrum back and forth Jack eel does pretty good at creating opportunities like that and one little note that I’m going to mention the remaining players on the ice and I got to mention this this made me
Smile the guys that were on the ice for your Vegas gold nights the moment that Jack eel had even a little bit of a confrontation everyone dropped what they were doing and they skated right over to Jack eel because hey that’s our boy you know Jack eel is the best player on the
Team he is a top 10 player in the NHL so if you want to mess with a top 10 player his teammates are going to come to his defense I like seeing that now 7 minutes and 42 seconds into the second period the first goal of the game would happen but unfortunately it
Would not be for your Vegas golden KN as Dylan cousins would have his fifth goal of the Season assisted by Casey midad so Buffalo would be up one to nothing in this game and you know what unfortunately it had to happen but you have some young guys in Buffalo him
Being a former first round pick there’s a lot of good coming out in that organization and the youth movement has definitely been a big part of it but the Buffalo Sabers are up one to zero in this game and Dylan Cousins being a middle six guy out there in Buffalo
Casey midd stat a former first round pick just alongside Dylan cousins and they have definitely been a good uh core of what the Buffalo Savers are trying to do on the forward end now later on in the second period matteus Samson would have a hooking penalty on Jack eel and
That would open up a power play opportunity for your Vegas golden knights and I will mention that Jack eel having a hooking penalty after a roughing penalty from Payton Krebs it felt like Kean Kazar and Jack eel were involved in almost every single penalty for the Vegas gold knights in this game
Uh Chandler Stevenson had that roughing penalty at one point but it felt like every time Buffalo went after somebody it was Kazar or it was Jack eel and it kind kind of shows the mentality of this game uh Chandler Stevenson he had some involvement there but King Kazar was
Getting involved Jack eikel was definitely getting involved in this game and that’s what you like to see with the Vegas golden Knight so on the power play the Vegas gold Knights would capitalize as Ivan bashev would score his seventh goal of the season on the power play assisted by
Nick W it would be a tie ball game 1 for your Vegas golden night and I will say for Ivan barbashev we have seen that he has been improving as of late everyone knows that he had a really late start to the year uh there was a lot of struggles
To begin the year in October and the beginning of November but for a guy like Ivan barbashev especially the last five games for him he has definitely evolved and has really kind of proven his game over time this guy has four assists and two goals in this month alone so for
Ivan barbashev he’s doing a really solid job for your Vegas golden knights and this goal right here with the setup and the and the execution to him have a power play goal seventh goal of the season for Ivan barbashev so as you end the second period for your Vegas golden knights
They would be tied at one a piece and you know get getting through two periods having 40 minutes of play you could really see that you know the intensity was building up you know there was a lot of good back and forth and especially considering this was a game that was at
T-Mobile Arena at The Fortress the gold Knights were 11 two and two at home at this point so for your Vegas golden knights it was really interesting to be kind of tied up after two periods of play against a team like Buffalo who a lot of people are saying is on the rise
And there is a chance that they are they had a little bit of a setback to begin the year but overall being a young team in Buffalo there is a lot of good talk about but yes so after 40 minutes of play two periods complete Vegas would be
Tied at won in this game now to begin the third period the Vegas golden knights they would get on the scoreboard first and would actually be um in the win column and actually take an advantage here as Jack eel the former Buffalo saber would score four minutes
Into the game assisted by Paul cter um I like the setup by Paul cter this was a definitely good play on that end Jack eikel picking up you know more than a dozen goals this year I like what Jack eel is doing now we already know he’s a top 10 player that’s
Already been well established but what you can see is that with him and with maraso those are the two guys that the whole entire team knows that if you put the puck on on his or her on his stick on his stick Jack eel and Jonathan
Maro they both will put the puck in the back of the net that’s what they’ve been doing for a lot of this season Jonathan Maro already at 15 goals on the Year Jack eel more than a dozen at this point so two minutes later the Buffalo Sabers
Would unfortunately tie it up in this game as Casey midad who had an assist earlier on the Dylan cousins goal he would get his own goal with five minutes into the third period assisted by Connor Clifton and Dylan cousins who return a favor from the from earlier it would be
A 2-2 game uh Conor Clifton the former Boston Bruins defenseman they brought him over in the off season they kind of strengthen the defense for Buffalo which by the way I will quickly mention that this defense for Buffalo has definitely improved and I know Devin Levi is
Definitely going to get a huge credit and I will acknowledge him later on but this defense has done relatively sound you have Rasmus Dalene and Owen power two former number one o overall picks on defense you have Eric Johnson and Conor Clifton two defenseman that they acquired this
Off seon two guys Buffalo Sabers are using to their advantage and you have Samuelson who is a young guy who they have locked up long term so for the Buffalo Sabers they did a pretty good job this off season taking care of business and then you have those
Two young guys on the forwards in the middle six in Casey middle stat and Dylan cousins now four minutes later the Vegas gold Knights would unfortunately go down a goal as Zack Benson the former first round pick you’ve been hearing this a lot in the show him getting his fourth goal of the
Season assisted by former Vegas golden Knight Alex tuck and Mattea Samuelson and you know the Buffalo Sabers they really took advantage of what happened in the third period Vegas gold Knights really just kind of missed some opportunity the Vegas gold Knights were trying to get the goals past Levi but he just
Could not be done I mean he was a brick wall essentially I mean Dominic hasik that’s what it felt like I mean we’re definitely we going up against someone in Buffalo who is a stone wall someone who just would not let the puck get past
Him but on this goal Zack Benson who yes they W they did draft him in the first round two years ago he has done a standup job in Buffalo part of the youth movement that I talked about ear earlier and then Alex tuck being the former Vegas golden Knight picking up an assist
In this game probably felt good for Alex tuck and we know that it felt good for Alex tuck because not even two minutes later he would get a goal of his own as Alex tuck would pick up his ninth goal of the Season assisted by his linemate
In Zack Benson and they will put the Buffalo Savers up by two in this game um Alex tuck is always going to be a Vegas golden Knight you know when they got him in the NHL expansion draft in Minnesota there was a lot of people in the hockey
World who saw Vegas pretty much ripping off Minnesota because Minnesota could have had Matt Dumba or they could have had Eric Holla plus Alex tuck well they decided to keep Dumba and they gave up holla and Tuck and Alex tuck has been arguably the best player in that deal H
Has done good as well but Alex tuck man what a great move there he was a solid middle six forward for the Vegas golden knights all the years he was in Vegas he was a standout member somebody who helped Vegas kind of elevate their game
As time went on and you know him going to Buffalo has been a really good job for him um not many people are going to talk about it but and ever since he went to Buffalo and I’m going to quickly acknowledge it real quick ever since Alex tuck left and
He went to the Buffalo Sabers he has been a guy who has elevated his game even more he has become the number two guy in Buffalo alongside Tage Thompson you know this is Tag’s team no doubt about it but on the forward end you have no one else more valuable outside of
Tage than Alex tuck he has done a really good job in Buffalo he has been a Dependable guy for the Buffalo Savers and Zack Benson once again returning the favor from the goal that happened two minutes earlier just like how Dylan cousins repaid middle stat after his
Goal in the first period Zack Benson would help out tuck in this goal it would be a 4-2 game for the Vegas gold Knights Buffalo Sabres game Vegas down by two and then unfortunately with a few minutes left in the game the Vegas gold Knights would pull the Goldie Logan Thompson would go
To the bench and it would create an empty net situation for Buffalo and this would be Casey middle stats second goal of the game assisted by Rasmus Dalene and Dylan cousins it would be a 5-2 game an empty Netter for Middle stat and it would be his eighth goal of the season
And I will say for the Buffalo Sabers really good win for them Vegas gold Knights just didn’t do what they needed to be done now obviously there’s going to be a lot of awards and I think all the stars went to the Buffalo Sabers you know you had Cousins Middle stat tuck
Benson but you know what Devin Levi most definitely deserved to be the first star I mean this was a guy who’s a young goalie he is someone who’s definitely earning his stripes as a longterm goalie him and Uka peka luukinen have been the future in net for the Buffalo Sabers so
I have to give credit where credit is due Devin Levi did a fantastic job tonight now your player of the game for the Vegas golden knights no doubtedly has to be Jack eikel not just because of the little scrum that he had in the second period with pton Krebs but the
Fact that he scored that goal with Paul Carter to put Vegas up by one momentarily in the beginning of the third period was a good situation for Vegas and Jack eel going back him playing his former team here in the Fortress at T-Mobile arena is a big deal
For Jack eel now anytime you play a former team anytime you go back and face an organization who you spent years with will always be a massive deal and it doesn’t matter how many years go by it be five years from now 10 years from now
Jack eel and Alex tuck will forever be linked because of the jack trade now something I do want to mention before we get into the stats there was some very bad calls that was in this game uh there was some hooking penalties that were not called there was one
Tripping situation with Stevenson that I felt like should have been called and it wasn’t and then there was that play that happened towards the end of the second period where essentially the Buffalo Sabers got away with a high stick penalty you saw one of the gold Knights
Pretty much asked the referee why he didn’t get a penalty and they didn’t give it to him so for the referees missing multiple calls that has to be called out um you know I’m not going to be like Steve dangle and say like west and be like West mccol level and say all
These refs should retire they’re terrible they’re awful I’m not going to go that far but I’m gonna say that these referees unfortunately did miss some calls in this game and they were calls that should have been called after all the entire third period there was not a
Single penalty in this game which tells me that the referees were trying to make it a penales third period they were just trying to let everyone play you let the boys be boys let everyone play the game naturally that’s what it seemed like the referees were trying to do they didn’t
Want to really try to blow the whistle unless it was an insane and very obvious penalty which they were not being called and then the five goal goals that were allowed you know I I do have to mention this because the Vegas golden knights
Were up 2 to one so for them to allow all of these goals in one period it just shows how the defense let down um the defense unfortunately just did not hold weight they did not do what they needed to do to help out LT and it’s going to be really curious
For your Vegas golden knights to see how they go moving forward now we know the upcoming game we know what’s going to happen with Ottawa but it will be curious to see how your golden knights do right now 26 and five we are like I said around that point of
Time and for your Vegas gold Knights competing with Vancouver you know Ed uh Edmonton ever since they fired their coach they’re starting to build a little bit of momentum now LA on the road has been one of the best teams in hockey so when it comes to your Vegas golden
Knights you really have to ask yourself how are they going to go moving forward what’s the goalie situation going to be with Aiden Hill coming back and practicing and more importantly what is the Alec Martinez situation because there’s a lot of ideas and speculation about the Alec Martinez and what’s going
To happen there now let’s get into these stats and actually break it down here for the Buffalo Sabres game the Vegas gold Knights outshot Buffalo 35-27 they out hit Buffalo 29 to 221 and the Buffalo Sabers they had eight penalty minutes compared to only two for
Your Vegas gold Knights and that was the Chandler Stevenson roughing penalty uh the Buffalo Sabers definitely outperformed in in the uh when it came to the faceoff Circle as Buffalo Sabers had 56% Faceoff succession rate as compared to Vegas having 44% um also breaking down some of the
Stats here on the team side it between Buffalo and Vegas you ended up having the power play opportunities Buffalo went zero for one and Vegas went one for four so once again I have to give props to the Penalty kill for the Vegas golden Knight 100% completion rate went one for
One on the penalty kill the Vegas skull Knights had 12 block shots which is not as much as Buffalo who had 19 and when it came to takeaways the Vegas gold Knights had eight and buffalo had nine so around the same level there so really good really good back and forth game but
Unfortunately it just got away from Vegas in the last period and it ended up losing 5-2 now we’re gon to be doing that next game we’ll definitely be doing all the games here on Vegas hockey hub recap and I will say to everyone watching all around the world continue watching
