A 5 min major was excessive imo. Mintyukov was admiring his shoot-in while the winger is closing on him. Dumb. This is the NHL & you're going to have a 4th line guy likely finish his check, so be ready to absorb contact. McMann should have got 2 mins for boarding, at the max. Additionally, the hit was delivered cleanly & at least 7-8 feet away from the boards.
your take is that mcmann making the contact isnt a body check but mintyukov has to make the contact after mcmann puts himself in his way? what are you talking about that just isnt true that would be mintyukov body checking mcmann which didnt happen here
a shoudler to shoulder hit with minimal acceleration it was a clean hit that mintyukov was not prepared to take which propelled him harder than it should have and came up with a bad result at most this shouldve been a minor because it was clean, mcmann did not change pathing he was playing for the body because he was not getting the puck it was a smart play on mcmanns side that ended up worse than intended
I appreciate your content. Always great stuff. Obviously not everyone agrees with your assessments, but you do a great job presenting your perspective. When I hear about a controversial play, I go looking to see if you've made a video about it. 🏒❤
I disagree with your breakdown on this one A. Defender was less arms length from the guy even great skaters would have trouble pulling out of this. B. This pls is a great reason why slow-mo does make things look worse it makes it seem like the defend has way more time to think and react when the reality is like you said it’s a bang bang play c. It’s also not just the defenders job to pull back he has to finish the check and nikky has to protect himself at all times he put himself right in the defenders strike zone and paid the price. never watched you before but I’m liking what I see plus I’m bored as fuck watching players turtle up along the boards because defenders won’t be able to be as aggressive. Can we just have every game be like the devils blackhawks game bedard be damn cause that’s fun hockey
“Mintyukov peels off” No he doesn’t mate, he watches his dump-in like a rookie. Also, toes of McMann are pointing in between Mintyukov & red line, ie where Mintyukov is about to be. Perfect play by McMann, Mintyukov realized too late he was in a bad spot. Tough lesson learned for him, for sure.
Also, kind of reminded me of when I was in high school & I had to try to bullshit an answer on a test. That’s the kind of logic I was hearing in this video. Usually I agree, but not this one. You need to put some responsibility on the player who was hit sometimes. 2:00 was best angle but only shown once?

Finishing his check is also McMann's job. If McMann stops finishing his checks…He'll be out of a job.

Yeah that looks even cleaner in slow motion. He turned away from the hit which was still to the side, shoulder on shoulder.
