You by BB Lux Transportation Company um for your safe and reliable ride please give a call to BB Lux um great people great folks great business um we are back talking Boston Bruins and um we do have a very special guest talking Boston Bruins but this episode is very very

Heavy Providence Bruins talk I think I thought it was important that we uh get somebody that’s close to the organization that obviously sees a them a lot more than I do I’m not down in Providence all the time like I wish I could be and Dom is not down in

Providence either because he’s in Ontario and the the private jet is on the fritz so but um we had Brett shave is on and um he was in an unbelievable interview uh he’s very transparent on his uh opinions about these players that we talked about that are in the uh the

Bruins top minor Pro System um in the American Hockey League and I thought he’d did a amazing job talking about you know certain players um uh but that is going to come up in the second half of this program but uh we’re going to talk about some Boston Bruins news right now

Just some you know random topics that kind of thought of at work today uh to try to get some uh increased content before we we had um before we dropped the interview with with Brett and um um how you doing Don by the way I’m doing

Great you know I was I was uh gonna start with the intro and say you know Mark every once in a while somebody amazing comes along and here I am we we’ve got Brett coming on so honestly sticks through to the end of the show because you get an honest

Opinion a lot of transparency and and um no make believe with with Brett he sincere and open and honest about uh I know they’re not Boston Bruins today but some of them will be one day and what better are chance that that to get to know them then while they’re in

Providence yep yeah Brett was great and I can’t wait for people to to listen to that and provide some feedback you know if you follow us let us know how how what your thought about uh what you thought about Brett and his uh and his thoughts on some of the players that we

Talked about we didn’t go through the whole roster but we did pick out some players that have caught our eyes some of that are slumping too you know it’s not all the you know talk about Fabian license and and you know John foni for

40 40 minutes it was a lot of up and down talk you know there’s some good players and there some players that still need you know the process to to benefit them so um I can’t wait to have this guy on again and I also can’t wait

To have his bartner AER Rook on um shortly if um if the Rooker is uh is available because I know he’s a very busy man but um dialing it back a little bit to talk about the uh their parent Club the Boston Bruins um I saw a tweet and I

Know it it is from a Boston Bruins salary cap thing um and I follow them and I actually I actually do like a lot of the the stuff that is put out um but it is I think it was Bruin’s salary cap I got to give the credit for it but

One of one thing that they tweeted out that I thought thought was interesting that I wanted to discuss with you was if the Bruins resign de Bros and swayan both at $6 million per contract extension could the Bruins have up to 14 million in available cap space for next

Season does those numbers make sense hold on a minute 12 they’ll have about 16 million 16 even more than that was my Asbury math coming out pride and proof yeah yeah there you know to talk talk about it like we’ve got this through a couple of years uh over the

Last seven or eight years with the bruids mark and that’s something called the tagging Rule and why certain players don’t get signed by a certain day uh I I just want there’s no hold up with Jeremy Swan or Jake brus because of that the Bruins have a lot of tagging

Space and what tagging space uh a actually means is that you have to have enough in expiring contracts to be able to add those contracts today so uh if they did six million for debrusk and six million foruan today uh they have the tagging space it’s not an issue this year

Nice and and more or less I just wanted to you know talk about that available space now it’s 16 so now it’s even more and it’s it’s that’s a better number but I’m looking at the ufas rfas that like you know pretty much need to

Be well looked at you know and I think there’s some players some players that are playing on this team right now that are you know could be playing next year as well and probably um one of the reasons why they were brought on this

Team at a at a very low cap like for instance like jper brist came in at 775 he’s um he’s a a restricted free agent with ARB rights right right comes in very comes in very low proves this year that he’s okay and can play this game and stay at this level consisten

Consistently why not bring him in at a very low cap number instead of going out and testing the free agent Market where you already have internal Assets in him and give him a chance over somebody that’s probably going to be overcharged because it’s very thin it I mean the

Free agent Market this year in my opinion is very thin it is I mean he’s one Parker Waters spoon’s another um I would actually signed Parker wat spoon to the Connor Clifton contract today uh because water spood can become a group six un unrestricted free agent so to explain a group six

Unrestricted free agent to anybody to everybody anybody who is over 25 years of age has played three seasons of professional hockey that’s either NHL AHL ECHL or european professional leagues while under an NHL contract and wat spoon has done that uh because he was with the Islanders Organization for what

Six years Mark oh yeah something like that um and has played less than 80 NHL games can become an unrestricted free agent so wat spoon fits that bill Oscar Steen fits that bill um and there’s a couple of others I can’t remember off the top of my head so

To answer your question I I would sign water spoon today to that clipon contract I would sign boquist today to a contract like you talked about I wouldn’t go more than a year with Buist um wish I could remember who else was on well I have the list on I came

Prepared oh okay uh so if if if James Van Rey you know I kind of think that he could come back at a very low cap value like give him another million maybe two to stick around for another year and I think I think he’s earned more than that

Mark but the thing is oh yeah jvr loves it here he absolutely loves it here so could you get him cheaper maybe who else is on the list OS Christin he’s been playing very well at the NHL level and I think that he’s an an asset that the Boston Bruins do not

Want to put on the waiver wire to send him down to Providence even if he needed more time seems like they’re they’re really coveted in him to stay with the organization and possibly create a a more consistent role next season with availability of course yeah but he’s another group six

So is Oscar steeve going to look at it with his agent say do I have a better shot with a different team so he might want to walk if he thinks yeah yep uh Danton Heinen is on that list at seven 75 right now i’

Bring in a minute I’d bring him back I would too and I like and I I I really do like the addition of him I like the way the whole process worked came in on a p it wasn’t playing much practiced really really hard and then worked his way into

A free agent contract has fil familiarity with Jim uh Montgomery in his college days and can be placed he he’s a typical versatile forward that I comp I talk about all the time he can be put on any line and you’re G to get 110%

No matter what exactly and I I think if you dangle two years in front of a mark um he would bite on that because he’s been doing what oneye contracts for how long now it’s been a bit I know he was doing one by one own Pittsburgh a lot

Yeah so if if you dangle two years in front of him I think D hean might bite on that and I would do it I would yep yep I mean like I said it some of these players they’re they’re making cheap money right now but it’s also setting the Bruins up for

To be Geniuses because when everybody else is taking the very thin market we’ve already got players that we would we would have targeted at a million dollars anyway much like what Don Sweeney did this past off season when he loaded up on like seven free agents and we were all like what’s going

On what are we doing here and then we finally found the plan as the as the regular season came into fold and and here we are now with all this depth and it’s working and you know the guy the guy cannot get enough thanks in in this

Or uh in this uh fan base for this the positive things that he does you know I mean 2015 vers round is gonna hang over this guy’s head forever yeah yeah but um exactly uh talking about the defense I’m I’m really not sure about Matt Grizzly

Coming back I’m not sure about Derek for but I don’t think I don’t BR either I mean if any defenseman yeah if any defenseman right now is like what you talked about a little while ago is Parker Witherspoon I think I think he’s he’s absolutely earned um you know another shot and he’s

An RFA with arbites um and I think he’s he’s just playing really well and and he’s the type of player that gives you that playoff intensity that this Boston Bruins team needs and I think he’s gonna be he’s going to be fighting you know for a Rossa spot uh and consistent Rossa

Spot as the playoffs continue so um you know good stuff from him as well you know I I I like I like I really like what he’s been bringing and you know I I have him as my third like seventh Player Award winner Trent Frederick’s my first

And Danon Heinen would be my second what do you think about those is it too much too soon for for Parker no it’s I well I don’t think he’s played enough Mark to right that’s what I’m saying yeah yeah but that’s what I’m thinking you you know Frederick Hein and Hein and

Frederick you could go either order there uh I I think that they would have to be the Front Runners and maybe in third spot put uh jvr yeah I like that I I like it um moving on to another topic um and kind of more or less it’s a it’s fan reaction

And I know we love that Dom um but is is hampus lolm playing as bad as many people think no I mean I don’t think so either you know people are going to look at a situation like last night Jim Montgomery talking about it and say you know uh a top pairing defenseman

Doesn’t make that mistake they do because we’ve seen Charlie mcaboy do it too um is this one you talking about yeah it says uh for the for the uh audio listeners only this is Ty Anderson’s uh tweet you can follow Ty _ Ty Anderson Montgomery extreme unhappy with that

Third goal says his defenseman should not be pinching in that point in the game with the score being what it was and he’s right Montgomery is right he shouldn’t be but to to hang on on Lind Holm And not take the positives that he does does bring um is just all right I mean like I said we’ve seen Charlie McAvoy make the same mistake so you know I look you take hampus linol off this team take him off the team and your Lefty is Matt chrisli Derek forbert and Parker

Wilderspin the guy eat as many minutes as um Charlie makoy does almost as many not as many um dare I say that that may be Beyond his comfort zone and that’s causing these mental lapses but that’s not Lind holm’s fault that’s not having somebody else you can put out there right

Like you you know um do you want Matt grizzli out there killing penalties no I like it for like like it I like it for the speed but no not not not all the time so you’re you’re forced to go with with forbert and ly Holm on

The leftand side and honestly you don’t even want um Charlie makoy doing that um if you can help it those are hard minutes penalty killing very very hard minutes they’re the hardest minutes for a defenseman at any at at any point in the game so you know that’s where I stand on I

Yeah sometimes we’re too rough on him but Mark yep to take into consideration what’s leading up to it and that’s that’s what I’ve got to say about that yeah yeah most of the time it’s just a common mistake everybody makes them that um you know fires up the

The pitchforks in the uh and the Torches to come into your village and you know cause Havoc so um I I think he’s doing you know I he’s not a flashy defenseman to be honest with you I mean he’s just he does his job he’s very just non you

Know but he pinches into the play sometimes offensively gives you that that that that aspect but I think that you know the way he plays he’s sturdy and he’s eating a lot of minutes as well so you know he allows that you know to spread the minutes out evenly I think

He’s earned a lot of trust from from uh Montgomery so yeah I’m not overly worried about him neither am I just think if they had to spread if they had to spread that ice time out differently that’s more ice time for Matt grizzli and more ice time

For Derek forber I think people are on lyol because he’s not producing the offense like he was last year yeah but let’s remember there was a point last year where he got top PP unit uh makoy was out and lyol was the go-to guy yep so absolutely right there was a

World of difference between last year and this year yeah uh speaking of last year and this year and and why don’t we wrap up on this one before we headed over to our interview with Brett jvis the um play-by-play guy for the Providence Bruins on the AHL TV uh broadcast um

Great guy again please give him a follow and also you know if you have time please uh order the game and and check out the uh you know what they have to say because they are they do a great job talking about the uh the prospects down

There and but um the assessment of uh Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery in his second season um and one of the reasons why I I wanted to talk about this was the tweet that I brought up about the uh the third goal and Jim not being being

Unhappy uh in his postgame comments um my my biggest thing right now is is we’re seeing Mr Jackal and and Dr Hyde or however you want to call that last year I know Montgomery said several times that the players pretty much coach themselves this year we’re not seeing

Any of that body language at all come out of uh Jim Montgomery’s uh mouth um and what I’m noticing is he’s more involved emotionally and you know there’s a lot on the line I mean this is a National Hockey League team that stays competitive year by year

And and there’s a lot of pride in Boston to keep that reputation going you know what I mean it’s original six franchise and blah blah blah um but I’m seeing a different coaching style where he’s just a little more active on the bench you can see a

Lot more of his frustrations come out on the bench and so on um what do what are your thoughts on on seeing these two sides of Jim and and what um is this the type of thing that was needed last year uh going into the playoffs and particularly in that first

Round or is this just um just this is coaching 101 this happens all the time and and so on you know a coach comes in and acts like the nice guy but the second year in it’s it’s let’s I don’t think I don’t think it’s anything like

That Mark I I think I think that he’s right like last year’s team basically coached itself I think why you’re seeing a lot more coaching this year than last year is a because that team was able to coach themselves uh for the most part although he made some mistakes in the

Playoffs uh but B with so many new bodies this year people in new positions like Charlie Coyle on the first line pabell zaka at Center where he never played a lot of it in New Jersey or last year in Boston um you know you got Kevin shaton Kirk

New on the blue line for a lot of a lot of the games you had Mason lorai in there you’ve got Parker wat spoon uh you got Matt po R you up front jbr you up front uh you got Buist you up front now you got hinen you up front now it’s a

Lot of new bodies so um you have to do a lot of coaching at practice so on what they’re supposed to do in different situations but you can’t replicate a game in practice so a lot of things come up in a game where a player isn’t doing what you want

Him to do and you have to do that coaching on the fly so I think if we saw a return roster last year uh there still would be no coaching because they know what to do so with so many bodies there’s constant coaching but now you see they’re B playing their best hockey

Of the season they should know by now what they’re supposed to do and that’s why we’re seeing the best hockey of the season season so far what yep the the biggest difference I have noticed is Jim Montgomery is doing now what a lot of fans gave Bruce Cassidy a lot of

Crap for and the reason why he wanted him gone and that’s calling players out publicly he didn’t mention hampus LOL by name in in those comments but we know it’s hampus Lin hom he’s talking about yeah yeah right um You don’t have to be a gum shoe to figure that out right and

There’s been several situations like that so like we got on Bruce cassy’s Case and we wanted him fired I’m not saying you and me uh no but we as a as as a group wanted Bruce gone and those of us that understood it it’s something that coach

Have to utilize once in a while I mean look at the the Flack with Ryan musel and calling out Fabian liel but look what it’s done yes exactly okay the response is amazing there there are times to do it and times not to do it and so I want to

Say let’s not get on Jim Montgomery’s case about it just like we shouldn’t have got on Bruce C C’s case about it let’s see how the player reacts now going forward after that public calling out hampis lolm has been around a long time he understands he knows his part of the

Game let’s see how he reacts now starting tonight we’re recording Thursday night so starting tonight with with Ottawa yep yeah and um we’re gonna um pretty much wrap it up um and you know get to the game because I do want to watch this game uh and see how the response was

Because um last last night’s game against Carolina I really thought the Bruins had a real good chance of winning that game but it was just some just some mental fumbles that just didn’t work out and you know it’s unfortunate um but uh we do have a uh a

Hashtag ASB that I do want to get to before we have our closing thoughts and and Usher in um Brett our special guest uh and that is from Michael Connor and you can follow him on Twitter SLX or whatever we’re calling it these days Mike 77 ca he says Hey guys wondering

What your thoughts are on which Bruins draft class from 2019 to 2023 has the best potential to impa uh to impact full for them so I and of course have to go to the Internet and look and I’m actually really surprised this is a great question um because it’s it’s very it’s

Very weird because I’m seeing two or three that could be um quite impactful um but I do happen to like the 2023 one I’m a huge fan of Chris Pelosi and uh Becket Hendrickson and I’m looking forward to uh Chris going to Quinnipiac and and I am not sure where Beckett’s

Going where’s Hendrickson going do you know uh they don’t have he’s going to Miami I think he’s going of Ohio Ohio yeah I think you’re right I’m pretty sure he is but then again you can make a huge case for the 2022 that brought Matt

Poter here d uh Cole Spicer d Dan Lo mellis um Frederick brune Reed dick and Jackson Edward so um and you know obviously 2021 isn’t too shabby either because you know Oscar Yelich and Andre CAU and uh Ty Gallagher Ryan Mass fedck Harrison lysel um

So and well I I wonder if Mike is asking this because of a tweet I put out I’m I’m currently working on a project uh that unfortunately I don’t know why I started it it’s going to take me months to finish um breaking down Don Sweeney’s draft class or drafts and where he’s

Made his hits and where he’s made his misses so I’m gonna go with 2022 as much as I like the other guys uh that’s the padra draft um Ju Just curios or an FYI here so when they traded Daniel vladar to Calgary they got Calgary’s 2022 third round pick they

Then traded that pick to Seattle for Seattle’s fourth and fifth round pick I believe it was where they got uh Don loock melis and Frederick brune wow no way I’m pretty sure that’s the trade maybe it was Spicer and brune but okay that draft that draft buys Sweeny’s Scouts I’m I’m not GNA

Credit Sweeny I’m going to credit the scouts with this one if they hit their potential um with Patra with Spicer although Spicer isn’t playing like he’s I know supposed to be with Youngstown in the US the roster yeah he’s not the roster he’s not on there yeah no he’s on the roster

He just hasn’t been issued a number right right or seen any action or seen any action and then is lock melis and uh then is Ryan mast and then is um Jackson Edward am I missing anybody 2022 yeah it was ptra Spicer lch melis brune dick and um Jackson dick Redick

Was the one I was missing so here was a six round if if they hit like they’re supposed to the way I think they can that’s a phenomenal Drive class you have uh six potential NH no five five potential NHL player one’s already in the NHL I know yeah there’s five potentials there

I’m just amazing Jackson Edward he’s something that this team has missed since Adam McQuade yep and I think several times yeah now for those that haven’t heard uh he’s been suspended two games for uh a hit to the Head actually left his feet and brought up the arm I’m surprised it

Wasn’t 10 I really am like the OHL really CS down on these things but that’s the issue with with Edward that I have he’s got to learn when not to cross the line or where the line is is what he’s got to learn um yeah dick as you

Know Mark we we both like him just coming back from injury Unfortunately they got a a week off so um he’s not going to get much playing time so there’s a little bit of rust there lo melis we both love him um oh yeah tremendous tremendous hockey player Spicer I’m not sold

On uh brune you know we’ll ask Brett about him coming up and what he sees and of course Matt Potro already playing in the NHL yep awesome well we have a a brost and ruins game to get to uh and watch the game against the Ottawa Senators so

We’re going to end this right now and we’re going to transfer over to uh Brett Chavis um and he is the Providence Bruins play-by-play guy alongside Austin Rook um uh great TR um you know talk about the Providence Bruins and and some players like we said so um thank you

Everybody for listening truly appreciate it we hope everybody has a great week uh we appreciate the downloads subscribes and so on uh please send us a an email or I’m sorry a voicemail uh 9785048554 you know add that and we’ll we’ll talk about your question uh next

Week so hopefully we get some more interaction we love talking with the fans and in doing this on a on a on a weekly basis so uh Dom another fun one and I I think I think uh I think folks are gonna really enjoy Brett and what he

Has to say about some of the some of the um the AHL veterans and some of the Boston Bruins prospects that are that are currently in the minor Pro system so um have a great week Tom and uh you know we’ll we’ll talk next week but you too

Buddy uh gold Bruins that’s right go bees and uh and here’s Brett with an interview brought to you by BB Lux let’s hit from BB Lux first and then we’ll transition right into the interview with Brett so bye everybody we’ll talk next week and thanks again for everything the

Other passionate Bruins fans or anyone in our amazing hockey fan [Applause] Community all right we’re back talking Providence Bruins this time after the break and and uh we as we mentioned in the uh in the beginning of the show uh we do have a very special guest and that

Is Providence ruins play-by-play guy and he works alongside Austin Rook the amazing Austin Rook it is Brett chavs and he’s joining us today talking about the Providence Bruins so we were very excited to um get an episode in that’s Pro mostly Providence Bruins stock because a lot of people don’t understand

That the you know they don’t either have the money to get ahltv or they just don’t have time to pay close attention to the prospects and always trashing them and talking bad about them because they predominantly look at those rankings that are put out by the

Athletic the co promin and so on and the Dom lisions out there but um we decided to have you on uh uh and um talk about this team that a lot of people you know aren’t very high on when it comes to prospects and and to talk about them and

What’s next coming up but for the folks that like you and Dom and myself and and and several other people that cover this team closely we we we do tell a different story that there is some value down in Providence working hard and so on so um it’s we appreciate you coming

On and um I just want to get started by I you know asking about your background and how you got into like broadcasting when you started um you know getting into the AHL TV feed with uh along with alongside Austin Rook so if you could just like spend a minute on like telling

Me some of your bro casting background and so on yeah for sure first of all appreciate you guys inviting me on you know this is pretty cool um so just to put it straightforward uh I really started getting into broadcasting uh hockey specifically um when I first got

To school um and I began in the nahl or the null as some people call it um with the Northeast generals um they are sort of Affiliated um you know with some lower ranked tier one Junior Hockey franchises but you know they still produce a really good product and I

Worked with them for about two seasons slowly work my way through um and that’s how I actually got to meet uh your fellow corresponding writer Andy blin um Andy and I have been good friends for a while and that’s where we started um Andy um invited me to call a couple

Generals games and he encouraged me to keep going with hockey and that Tai really got involved and I believe it was the summer of 2021 is there 2021 or 2022 um Austin Rook who is the uh other play byplay with me um he was doing it

Full-time at the time uh he reached out to me um and he was asking for you know some coverage on a couple games during the year and it was supposed to be just Friday nights and um obviously I jumped up a bit I mean calling AHL hockey you

Know while you’re at college is exceptional you know there’s not many people that can say they can do that so jumped right at the bit started calling it with Austin I did Friday nights alone and then eventually you know a weekend came in here there where I subbed in and

You know now Austin and I are you know almost 50-50 split the way it mapped out this year um with the coverages and stuff so you know we both work really hard he’s a phenomenal person you know I’m thankful every day they gave me the chance to at least start up in

Providence and yeah that’s where I’m at right now yeah I I do want to say that the the AHL TV was it was gone for a little while from the Providence Bruins and and when it came back Austin Rook was that welcome inv voice back to the

Broadcast and so on and then you guys bring uh you know came on as you came on as well alongside of him but it just seems like it’s getting better game by game the broadcast I truly appreciate um watching the RO um you know the home

Games when I can’t attend uh games down there because I’m elsewhere but you guys do a fantastic job uh you know uh covering the bees and and I love I love how you guys get excited when when they score man like Austin comes out with some nicknames and so on and and you

Come up with some really good stuff so but it makes for it a very enjoyable listen so we appreciate you guys and the uh Providence Bruins Organization for you know spending the money to put on a broadcast like that for fans like myself and writers and Dom and and anybody else

That needs the V to watch the video for evaluations you know it’s it’s a very good tool and asset so we appreciate appreciate that um ahead John so I was GNA say I I appreciate the work you do too Brett and uh you know I’m a Canada so uh I don’t

Get to to see Providence live although Mark will tell you a couple of weeks ago they were in Toronto and uh um well I I can’t remember now one is usually a 2hour drive was a three and a half hour drive to get there so

Um I I really appreciate the work you do and I’ve so been looking towards this chat because as you know watching them on a monitor or on a TV is not the same as watching uh the players live so absolutely with with that said I want to

Talk ask you about a particular player and just before you came on I was rereading what I wrote about him when the ruins actually signed him last year um and I should be telling myself not to be surprised but here I am still surprised at at how he’s doing that’s John

Foni what are you seeing in him and what do you see as a potential future in him yeah ferachi has um been one of those players that I knew since they brought him in in October and you know training camp in September I knew he had some flashes of potential and he’s very

Similar in merkulov and I say this because merkulov plays very well when he plays with talent that you know up from him top six if merkulov is in the top six of a lineup he is bound to have production opportunities foni acts in the same exact way you slot him third

Fourth line you’re not going to see it too much activity because you’re not getting the passes you’re not getting the opportunities in front of the crease when he’s working with top six guys your Fabian L cells of the world Georgie merkulov Justin brazzo he’s able to get

The quality looks on goal because he’s got that chemistry with those six so having worked with them through a full season now now playing with the first line special teams unit on the power play playing with the penalty kill as well he just continues to grow his

Minutes his speed is getting faster his reaction time is getting faster and I do think give it two to three years I think there is a chance uh that he gets a look up in Boston awesome Mark you got one yeah I do I I I want to talk about Michael

Callahan um this is a defenseman that I’ve seen change big time it is a contract year I get it and he’s really trying to impress uh for future you know e either a death assignment from the Boston Bruins organization uh much like he’s at right now in an entry level kind

Of year um but I’ve seen a big difference in him and he’s not very offensive but his his defensive game and how he boxes players out and so on it forces uh forces the play you know to the boards and and and has some good you

Know net front like coverage and and and available for you know the scrums and so on you know after the whistle but I just see something different in his game um you know he’s been around for a little bit he’s become a little bit of a leader

As well on the back end um so what are your thoughts on Michael Callahan from the transition from last year to this year yeah cie’s still you know still kind of developing his game a little bit um you know obviously making the jump from Big East hockey at PC being the

Captain there there’s going to be some sort of natural leadership elements to his game and I do think that’s very obvious playing with first line and second line defense he’s not very offensive like you mentioned and he’s able to be physical along the perimeter especially at the Blue Line um the way

He operates um I don’t know if Cali is going to get the chance in Boston and I say that because this team has always been so defensive defensively uh loaded in terms of depth um and the third and fourth pirs on defense up in Boston have been you know playing their due time

Especially when they’re healthy um if he’s able to pick up his speed and maybe get a little bit more production on goal I do see him maybe getting a chance maybe not in Boston but a different NHL Franchise um but in total I think he’s a

Solid player at the AHL level I think he does make an impact in the locker room and that’s his best component it’s just his leadership and his selflessness he’s able to get the guys the quality looks they need on offense um and like I said he does provide the physical nature that

You do need in a second line defens I’m going to stick with the blue line like Mark uh did he and talk about a guy I saw way back in junior uh with the London Knights of the Ontario hockey league and Alec regula now I I guess what I want to know first

Brett is is his plus minus inflated or is he just that capable of a shutdown Defender um what I will tell you right now regs is absolutely a shutdown Defender that plus minus that you see on ahl.com that’s legit um he is a very physical and a very fast Defender and he

Plays even better when he’s paired with Dan Ru uh who we acquired a few years ago um Ru and regula have been by far our best pair on defense this entire season they’ve been working with the first line offense the entire season um and I think Mo sees some in regula that

A lot of people don’t because he’s able to generate a lot of scoring on the power play he’s able to generate a lot of scoring um in the late parts of the game he’s able to push the puck up the stream he sees the holes at neutral I

And he’s able to draw something that a lot of defensemen don’t normally see and that’s why he’s worked his way up in a hurry you know since being acquired from Chicago a little bit while ago um I think he’s going to be a big impact once

The Bruins hit the AHL with the CER Cup playoffs um but definitely keep an eye on him and R as a pair because without one the other sort of Falls as well they have to stay PA got it um Brett one player I’ve been keeping

An eye on great segue into the uh you know the eye thing um but I’m I’m a huge fan of um of uh Justin brazo and how he’s progressed um from the ECHL with the main Mariners I mean he he really blossomed and got the eyes of the uh Providence Bruins Organization for

Advancement when he started down there I think it was a a dozen games and he was a point per game player comes up and learns the system really quick he’s a really big kid had an overage an unbelievable overage year in the OHL with the I believe the North Bay

Battalion D I correct yeah and you know comes comes out of the Toronto Maple least organization and and kind of like you know good on The Scouting to get a player like this but what I noticed about him Brett Day game in and game out and I’ve even talked to Ryan muel about

Him several times as well is just the how his net front presence is he’s just got a huge Knack a big knack for getting to the net for a big body planting himself at the top of the crease causing havoc in front of the net and the guys

Just got an unbelievable Pair of Hands when the pucks got at him and he needs to either redirect it tip it or lean on one some of these defensemen for a second opportunity on a rebound he’s just got a lot of great fourth line attributes in my opinion now M it’s kind

Of a two-part question I want to know your thoughts about brazal but I also want to know he’s he’s in the contract year as well is it worth the Boston Bruins to keep him as a depth play I’m not saying get him in the NHL big big

Body he could fight this and that we know he’s not a fighter and stuff like that but is he that type of fourth liner that could possibly get some NHL looks later on with the Boston Bruins brazzo I say this with all honesty I have never seen a Bruiser in

Front of the crease as strong as Justin brazo um at this level it’s exceptional what he’s able to do in my game prep that I do every day I have a a roster of our you know all of our guys and notes this side and the first thing I put for

Justin brazzo is Bruiser in the crease because it is so obvious how much he’s able to generate space the deflections he’s able to get off the top of his forehand and just the ability to to generate late goals in you know parts of the game where you need it the most um I

Don’t know if either of you watched our game against the pens a couple weeks ago we were down I watch every game three nothing yep we were down three nothing brazzo there was a shot from the top of the point directs it boom goal and it wouldn’t have been possible if he didn’t

Box out like a 90s Power Forward you know that’s playing for you know who knows what in the NBA he’s just that strong um I think brazzo’s biggest weakness is his speed when he’s not in front of the crease and when the Bruins don’t have Zone time he can be a

Liability sometimes on defense just because he is a little bit slower to get to the other end of the ice that’s why I also think he may not get a chance in Boston especially with a contract year the Bruins love their speed they love to transition back into the Zone in a hurry

So for a guy like brazzo to get an opportunity like that there’s going to have to be some injuries and there’s going to have to be a need for physical presence in front of the goal I think there’s absolutely an opportunity for him to maybe get an an uh excuse me an

AHL contract um in the future and stay in Providence but NHL looks are going to be tough for a forward that doesn’t really carry a lot of speed transition yeah and I I understand the whole speed thing I totally get that but what I really like is is um you know

He’s constantly moving you know the guy just never stops moving and I know it’s not very fast and everything but I like the way that he can park himself in front of the net and then adjust to the play when it comes down low he can also

Go behind the net in gry’s office and play you know that type of freaking game as well and then scoot back into the in but I do understand his his flat out breakout speed is definitely questionable and that’s probably one of the reason one of the big reasons and Dom can tell

Me because he covers the OHL thoroughly that that’s probably why brazal didn’t get drafted was probably the speed no I remember when uh when I did my rankings his first year of Eligibility uh you can look at most 38 to 40 OHL players being drafted uh and that’s on a good year uh

And I remember uh Brazil was in the 50s for me so uh skating is always been an issue and and that’s about the only thing that’ll keep him that would keep him from the NHL but I’m Brett now that Mark went forward I’m going forward so a fellow of the Bruins

Drafted or signed as a undrafted pre agent out of the end CAA got into I think it was a dozen games with the Bruins after they signed him and became a fan favorite for those uh 11 12 games whatever it was he’s played um many thought he should have made the

Bruins out of Camp last year and found himself in Providence and I’m wondering has Mark mclin regressed in your opinion or uh is what you see what you get you know Mark’s had a tough year um points-wise he’s only got six through the first four months of the Season

Which if you look at his numbers from last year is practically an eighth you know of what he was at you know at this point in the AHL season last year um I don’t think it’s the fact that he’s regressed I just think that the Bruins

Have such young depth at the AHL level and for Mark to play his game he needs to stay in the top six he’s very similar to the faracci guys that we’ve talked about the Georgie merkulov of the world and unfortunately the Bruins have just had other guys that have risen to the

Occasion and found their way into the top six I mean I don’t think a lot of people saw Fabi and lysel taking this big of a jump this year I don’t think people saw Anthony Rashard and Jason Magna making as big of a jump or an impact as they have this year um

Unfortunately mark was just the the odd piece of the puzzle and you know he is fit in very nicely as a compliment piece but I just don’t think there’s much more R much more wiggle rum for him to have at this point in the year I I want to

Talk I’m gonna stay with Forwood and and I’m so glad that Dom didn’t take this one I feel like we’re doing a draft Yeah you know just sitting here with Brett drafting players and so on but um no um I want to talk about fav and lysel and

And my opinion is uh the year didn’t start off great for him and it was our it was pretty much our video that uh with muel that kind of went viral uh with his comments um and you know I have to agree with Ryan I do see some I did

See some things that he was doing way too much as an individual and that’s you’re gonna get that with skilled players they want to do more they want to be that person they want to be that first round pick that wants to show off that skill but it’s also a team game and

I understand how Ryan really wants to you know Implement that because that’s what gets you to the NHL and he’s not wrong that you know to get to um Jim Montgomery’s level of play and and style system system Styles whatever you know you got to play a certain way but my

Question to you is after you heard those comments how has Fabian lysell responded because in my opinion it took a game or two but then after that he really started buying in with we’re a team when we step on the ice together and not an individual faves has always been an

Individual player that’s been hiso coming out of Sweden that’s been hiso in Providence it’s been hiso in training camp he is a still position player can I add it was with the Vancouver Giants as well in his one year of the wh show absolutely true I totally forgot about

The Giants um but uh what I was saying was um he’s always been that guy that wants to extend the play himself make the skill move inside and make the fancy goal that’s going to draw all the attention on the NHL social medias that’s just how he is he’s more of a

Flashy player that likes to make speed and Havoc unfortunately in the Bruins system that’s not how it works the Bruins and I apologize for the noise outside my apartment walls thin as ice but um the Bruins organization uh it Prides itself on team play that’s been Montgomery system the entire time you

Look at the talent in Boston they’re not flashy they play physical they play hard they play like a team that’s why they’re so successful if Fabian wants to make it to that level he’s going to buy in which I think he’s absolutely done in the last three months in Providence you’ve seen

Such a tremendous growth in lell because he’s matured in his game and he’s able to get quality looks on goal simply because the chemistry’s been so much better on his line he’s been able to work with Rashard merkulov even brazzo him and brazzo have been phenomenal with

One-w shot inside the crease lysel is not able to punch it home brazza’s there to get the rebound and vice versa you know his his chemistry and his teammate uh teamworking skills have definitely seen a huge growth I think he’s gotten to the point now where if he continues

With the pace that he’s on right now I wouldn’t be surprised Don Sweeney and Jim Montgomery pull the trigger on him at the end of the year just as a developmental standpoint to see where he stands in the NHL I think he’s starting to itch the Big Bear right now it’s just

A matter of how much longer they want to wait and see how much more he can grow yeah I I I almost definitely think that they’re gonna give you give Fabian some thank you games like hey you know we we’re still with you you’re still with us we’re still working together and the

Important thing is is we still have two and a half more years of this developmental um you know partnership so you know there’s still a lot of time with him I don’t think we should give up on him I just think that there’s there’s always been that Comfort level because

Euros coming over to a new country is never an easy thing you know it’s it’s a huge adjustment period and sometimes players take a little longer than others to get it so and that’s not a knock on them but as long as the development the attributes and so on is still there he’s

Still a valuable piece of the organization regardless if it’s a a trade piece or if we’re looking at him potentially cracking the NHL rosson next season I it’s gonna take time for him to get there especially with the Bruins organization they really like to use guys three four years for True

Development at the AHL level before they make the big jump lco was the same way yakob blo spent about three and a half years in the Providence and I think very briefly main system before he made it to the actual Bruins roster he got some thank you games last year very similar

To what we’re expecting from lysell but I’m almost expecting him to you know continue his development continue to work with these coaches in Providence before he really does make that big jump Brett one of my favorite players and being Canadian and covering the Ontario Hockey League may surprise a lot

Of people but one of my favorite play players is Trevor countar and I I mean I watched a lot of them in the NCAA the last couple years and I love this guy as a player now I know uh he’s playing a different role than he’s accustomed to uh at the HL

Level this year uh but what are you seeing in him so far and what do you think the future holds for him kunar has quickly become a fan favorite in Providence because he is so damn Scrappy I did not think for a second that he was going to be the one

To constantly either throw down the gloves or at least get into some sort of fistic cuffs after the whistle but he has truly been one of the big physical players that the Bruins needed this season with Johnny beer moving up to uh Boston with Loco moving up to Boston

Taking these big steps they needed someone to fill that void and that’s pretty much been kunar this season kunar and Arsenal have been the big enforcer guys for Providence you don’t expect it out of kunar he’s a little bit smaller you know for his age you don’t really

See physicality in him you see him as speed get to the net and shoot um but like we mentioned before he’s playing a different role he’s playing the fourth line he’s there to eat up clock get shots on goal you know let those top six guys get their breather and hit the ice

Again um I think he’s balanced it well and and I think he’s starting to really adjust to the system and mature his game but for what it’s worth I I do believe that kar’s physicality has taken tremendous strides since he signed his original offer last year yeah and and

From my my point of view from watching him the guy’s a buzz buzzsaw he just gets off the bench the wheels turn quickly and he’s a tenacious for Checker and he and he hits he for checks with authority you know he throws the body

Down um I I kind of think that this is might is a little bit of a de developmental thing for countar and where he’s positioned right now because I do have to agree with dom uh when he brought this player up is he does have some good offensive capabilities as well

I sometime soon I would like to see him get out of that third and fourth line and try to see some higher uh time in the first and second surrounded by a little bit of better Talent um to to kind of you know expose those skills not

Only to himself but others and hopefully that he could be that all round player that you can rely on offensively but also when he’s on the ice and he and he needs to make body contact he’s going to follow through with that what do your thoughts on him being a better player

With uh with with you know a little more trust higher up in the lineup yeah I think he’s definitely earning trust quickly for Mu Janel um I think it’s a situation at the AHL level where he’s going to get some thank you games at the end of the year you know I

See the last month and a half being a countar second line situation or maybe even a countar first line situation you’re GNA want to start resting these guys before the cder Cup playoffs and then that’s your perfect chance to see what you’ve got in this kid you’ve got

Kunar you’ve got Brett Harrison you’ve got Freddy brune these young guys that are just chomping at the bit and waiting for Quality opportunity and I think that is very possible coming in um and him earning some more trust good stuff um I’m I’m going to bring up a player you

Just named and I’ve watched him for several years now as Brett Harrison and before I get your thoughts uh everybody knows my thoughts uh but I I’ll repeat him nonetheless here’s a guy with an NHL caliber shot an NHL caliber brain the way the way he thinks the game skating

Needs a little bit of work but he gets to where he needs to go all the time but what I saw through Junior Brett is a lot of times a lack of intensity um a lack of Engagement uh when he should be engaging now I know he’s only played 23 games uh

This season are we seeing any sort of improvement in those areas I was waiting for Harrison because I have been waiting a while to share my thoughts on him um he is by far my favorite player in Provence right now and here’s the reason why um Harrison originally at the beginning of

The year was someone that no one thought was going to get the chance that he did this year uh fourth line guy see what kind of shots he can get on goal work some chemistry while you’re young and hit back to the bench let the veteran

Guys who we signed to Deals take over the coverage Harrison overtime in this season has gotten second line minutes he’s now on the first line power play unit he’s worked through penalty kill he’s quickly earning the trust of Ryan muel because of his ability to pick up

His game to get his shot on goal to break to the net his simple things have just gone a long way and I think that’s what Mo likes about him it’s it’s just the fundamentals you mentioned before his gting does need a little bit of work

Um and he doesn’t play as hard as some of the other players he does rely on guys like brazzo or guys like merkulov to be physical so that way they can get to him and his shot and get on goal he didn’t score his first goal of the

Season until two and a half months in because he was waiting for the puck to come to him if he can adjust this game to make it so he’s at the puck first and he initiates those opportunities I think this kid can seriously make it to the

NHL there are some quality features that I really like about him and he is winning over the trust of this organization yeah and and one thing about Harrison that that you know a lot of folks are looking at numbers and they’re just saying is this a bust but

You just said it right there and this is why it’s important for for Bruins fans that don’t have the time to do the research watch the games pay the you know pay subscription fees and so on but it’s not just about the numbers it’s about the small impact that you make in

A game that are so important to earning more and more trust and it’s a huge developmental um aspect when you’re thinking about you know putting certain players in in certain positions and how they’re going to grow from there and you know I think that he’s he’s definitely

He was a uh he was a guest on our show um what two year two summers ago Dom yeah two summers ago yeah very well spoken young man you know um you know I I think there’s a lot of potential there but um I do want to see him uh just get

A little yeah the the foot speed and so on just going to work on but also any uh play along the boards and in those dirty areas you know hang out with Adam McQuade a little bit more you know and try to get that positioning where to hit

Where to take a hit and so on I think he’d be a better player but it’s just those are development things that that he’s going to work on it’s just not about the numbers and you got to remember this roster in Providence is one of the youngest that they had in so

Long a lot of these years Providence has had so much veteran presence and that’s why they’ve been so good Don Sweeney and Evan gold have taken a completely different perspective this year and half of this roster is under the age of 25 that’s a completely different turnaround

Than what we’ve seen in previous years it’s gonna take time for these guys to really learn what it’s like to be an AHL or an NHL caliber player we’re already seeing the turn around halfway through the season as they pick up the pace on offense but you’re going to see an even

Bigger turnaround once you see you know a season or two under the books but and and to add on to how the season was I mean um it was not a good start at all I I was I was actually shocked that the uh the former Atlantic division Champions came out like that

Because last year with in with a lot of veterans of course I get that you know they they really came out of the gate and ran with it right to to to the end of the season they were much like the Boston Bruins last year um in the

American Hockey League and they and this year there’s a lot of new faces and and I was talking to Ryan Mel about this in an interview postgame interview you know the Rashad’s the the magnas you know all these guys that are coming into the Boston Bruins organization they’re they’re bringing their families with

Them this is all an adjustment so it kind of made sense to me that the the vets and the and the and the younger players still have to gain chemistry and so on but I think right now we’re seeing it’s the middle of the uh Providence ruin season I think now we’re seeing

That chemistry being built there’s more the players are being comfortable you know they’re comfortable in the surrounding and they’re comfortable with their with their players next to them and so on and I think that I’m not calling call the cup and so on but this

Is a team that could really work hard um I want to see him get out of the first round last year I was so pissed off at the AHL because I hated the schedule they bought Providence Bruins were the Atlantic division Champions and they got

A buy that was 12 days long and they didn’t do anything but practice and I think that that’s what really killed them so Providence if you’re listening tank don’t don’t don’t chase hery for first just stay in second place and and play in the first round if it’s a game

Or two or five games whatever and they come in the second round a lot fresher than you were last year against Harford yeah I do think the bu definitely played a factor into how they you know worked against Harford and that’s what Austin and I talked about as well when they

Played that first game against the wolf pack they just looked off like they were slow they were playing scared and you know Harford was a team that was red Haw coming into the playoffs they were the best team they had the best you know chemistry on the ice and Louie deing was

Standing on his head um at that time so got to give credit to them and you know you just hope this year the chemistry Falls at the right time and it definitely seems like the the steps are coming in the right place for this team

Yeah uh BR go ahead I I want to ask you about one more player because he’s one of my favorites has been for a couple of years now it’s Frederick brune um this is a kid uh watching him in the in the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League now that it’s known as

Um very very very talented offensive defenseman I think um post trade when he when he was traded at the trade deadline he was probably the best defenseman in the queue uh and probably had he been there all season probably would have won uh top defenseman of the year he actually came

In second but this is truly a major boom or bus typee of situation with him like I mean if if he hits uh they’ve got themselves quite a find here and so tell me what you’re seeing um I know he’s not in every game he’s only played I think it was 23 games

This season so far um what are you seeing yeah Freddy’s one of those guys and I had a feeling you were gonna ask me because of his qm jhl connection but um I think his I think Freddy’s issue is just because of his lack of physicality and he’s an offensive defenseman which

In you know the Bruins organization they love to play physical and they play hard and that’s why you always see Sweeney and gold go out and get these older veteran defensemen Riley Walsh Parker wers spon who’s now in Boston he was only meant to be in Providence the

Entire year yeah he just he was supposed to replace Didier um but he’s killing it up in Boston um you know your Callahan of the world to play physical unfortunately brune is going to learn how to hit before he really makes an impact with his team I think you’re

Starting to see it um you know with his game but I just think he’s trying a little bit too much on offense that you know turnovers happen and unfortunately off opposition scoring happens I I do think um like you said it is a little bit more of a boomer bus situation but I

I do believe that some bright spots with this kid it’s just going to take a couple years for him to actually figure it out and and notice how he has to change his game so Brett here’s here’s a question um probably my last and then I’ll I’ll work the next one into a

Double question because it comes to goal tending but uh first I just want to talk about Luke toporowski um what are your thoughts on him kind of taking offensive kind of uh decline a little bit from last year I know last season that he was injured for

A um not a lot of the season but injured and came back and really worked hard uh but this year I’m almost seeing like he’s trying different things which are kind of like working against his offensive capabilities even though he’s getting chances and so on I just think that last

Year he had more finish which makes me kind of think that he’s kind of retooling something on the Fly and not like producing offensively like I have seen in the past but um what are your thoughts on this player and and in his continued development in

Providence yeah top rowski is kind of an enigma to me and I and I haven’t really been able to put a pen on what his game is because he’s changed it so much and it’s a little odd last year he was injured a lot but when he was healthy he

Was fast he was flashy he was the guy that broke to the net and got the crazy goal this year it’s it’s weird there there are some days where you saw flashes of that he he played unbelievable in providence’s first game against Hershey at The Amp it was

Probably top marowski’s best game of the year I remember in the back of my mind short-handed goal beat Hunter Shepard blocker side of quality and then there are times you see to rowski like most of this year where he’s kind of playing back and he’s starting to be almost a

Role player he’s dishing the puck to other guys that maybe he feels are more confident in scoring than himself I don’t know what it is but maybe he’s trying to assert himself more as a role player and try to play as a third line fourth line Winger in Boston instead of

Being that guy and you know trying to take a spot from someone else maybe that’s how he sees himself being I I’m not totally sure I can’t put a picture on it but um what I can say is it’s been an experimental year for him and I do

Think as the season goes on you might see a little bit more of definition in this play Dom you got another one yeah I I’m gonna come up with one real quick here because uh Brett mentioned Parker wers spoon um and I know yeah I sorry I had a phone call come in

And it it just threw me off sorry oh well asking about Parker water spoon because and I’m sure you got to see him a lot when he was with Bridgeport um you nailed it on the head when you said he’s killing it up in Boston but did you see any of this

Prior to this stint did I did I see like did I see W spoon like going to Boston or just like yeah and and playing and playing the way he is I honestly thought that wspoon was just going to be a six-game temp guy until you know Carlo grizzli and forber

Got healthy and then they’d send him right back down to Providence that’s just the way that the Islanders used him the last 10 years he was up and down from New York he played the most of his games with the sound tigers and you know now the Bridgeport Islanders but um I

Didn’t see him lasting long but I think what makes wers spoon so special in this situation is he’s just so fundamentally strong um he does everything right he hits the spots that he needs to be he plays physical and he knows he’s not the top goal scorer that’s McAvoy that’s you

Know grizzli that’s all of these other guys that’s ly home um he’s not it and he knows that um and he just plays his role to a top tier and I commend that so much about him he did the same thing in Providence he played physical he played

Hard he was in the spots that he needed to be and he made that team better and that’s why the Bruins went out and signed him away from the Islanders this year because they needed someone that could just be fundamental throughout the entire portion of the season and you

Know Jim Montgomery loves those kind of guys he loves the guys that he doesn’t have to worry about and I think that’s why he’s made a lasting impact in Boston just because he’s someone that’s got a very high ceiling and just someone that Jim can Ry on every

Night awesome stuff looks like we lost Mark there um I’m still here oh okay um but I want to say Brett I could go on all night about everyone of these guys picking your brain um you know just because you get to see these guys in

Person all the time and we don’t always get to see what you see at that level and you see them every every game so uh I want to thank you for coming on and talking about actually we got through quite a bit of the roster so um I

Appreciate it I hope the fans appreciate it uh your knowledge of the guys is Undisputed so thank you absolutely yeah pleasure again pleasure uh being on with you guys this has been fun and sorry for the technical difficulties uh you know you can’t see my my beautiful face and

Everything but we’ll figure we’ll figure this whole thing out but I do want to thank you Brett um you know it’s been a really good talk sitting here I’d love to do this again hopefully get Austin Rook on sooner or later but um uh we’ll see what happens with that um but we’re

  1. Thanks for this vid. Great to catch up on what's coming up. I have to believe someone can play better and provide more offence than Lauko and Steen.
