Guess what happened to the players who didn't try to snow the goalie. They didn't get penalties and were allowed to keep trying to help their teams. He had every choice in the world of how and where to stop and he chose to do it like that, in the goalie's face.
Marchand has to learn to use his skill in which he well showcased throughout his career instead of being a pest. A penalty in a game like this bad call or no you just have to be smarter than that.

The reason being, you touch the goalie, any goalie, you have to expect that opposing team is going to be all over you, with all hell breaking loose. Then what? You can't give out penalties to everyone. The ref will be forced to take the first player that cause the mayhem. In this case, would be Marchand. Conversely, if the Canadiens did that to the Bruins goalie, I would imagine Chara would be all over that player. — You touch the goalie, expect penalty, for sure, and a beating, in which case you can take a guy with you to the box and even it up. But, yeah. This is some shit that you learn when you start playing hockey at age 6.
