Sissons Signs 7 Year, 20 Million Extension With Nashville

The Preds will not be losing Sissons. Poile likes handing out term since it gives him certainty with the roster.

  1. It's so weird to see such a low cap-hit combined with such a long-term in real life. I do it all the time in NHL games though lol.

  2. I think you need to look at what the player brings or can potentially bring. He needs to step up this year for them. The preds lost alot of goal scorers this off season. He has to be that swiss army knife. I think in 5 years we look back on this and say both sides win.

  3. Can an rfa wait to sign a sheet until the season starts so the team signing him will have more cap available by putting guys on ltir?

  4. He is not as good of a player as Kase and yet he is getting bigger term and money. I don't get it really.

  5. i like sissons quite a bit very happy with the extension. I think turris could maybe get going if he was to be put on the 3rd or even 4th line. I know he makes a lot to be put there but if he gets going because of that it would be worth it.

  6. In 7 years the cap hit will be like 100 million. So signing long term makes sense when you think about it. Sissions is only gonna represent 3% of the cap hit in the last year.

  7. Nashville have great contracts, this seems verry low risk, maybe he starts putting up 20+ goals or takeover 3rd line c

  8. Im super happy with this signing. Kinda strange, but Sissons certainly deserves what he got. So excited for next season.

  9. Long term contracts are fine unless you sign a Lucic who doesn't have it anymore and then you're stuck with them.

  10. My Mom got it for me on my birthday. It's by the great John Glennon who writes for The Athletic out of Nashville (formerly the Tennessean). Great book.

  11. Smart move for Sissons. Now no matter what happens the rest of his career he is taken care of.

  12. Good deal. Guy is a bottom 6 and those guys can often fall off. He gets security and it's affordable for Nashville. Man, with all the young kids coming up, Sissons could be in the AHL in a couple years, or never. You never know anymore. Good deal.

  13. Nashville needs a goaltending change if they want to remain competitive. One idea that comes to mind is Pekka Rinne and a 2020 2nd round pick to Arizona for Darcy Kuemper. Please feel free to laugh at me now.

  14. What happens to Nashville's cap if Webber retires 1 or 2 years before his contract is over?
*looked it up, Nashville would have a cap hit of 24.5m spread across duration left on contract. All in a single year would be crippling.

  15. Its a good deal for basically all, Preds get cheap player for many years, Sissons gets nice money and doesnt need to worry about his future money wise, its not even a risk deal since its only 2.8m deal

  16. 7 yrs is a long commitment to a bottom 6 guy no matter the aav of the contract. He’s a good player that does all the right things but you can find those guys that come up from your farm system that only cost league minimum. Does his contract have any no trade clauses in it?

  17. Stoked with this contract as a Pred fan. Sissons lacks the top-end skill to be a scoring threat consistently, but he's a quality 3rd line center who can play all positions, is good at faceoffs, and has had multiple stellar playoff runs. There's virtually no risk with this deal either because you're paying for the floor of this player. When looking at the current cost for similar players on the free agent market, this is a steal of a deal.

  18. I found a signed copy of that book in Nashville at the Vanderbilt bookstore. I’m sure you can find it at other bookstores too

  19. I’m not shocked anybody remember that Jarnkrok steal of a deal that Poole signed him to? Brilliant GM

  20. I am actually surprised more of these deals aren't signed. I sign these types of deals all the time in the EA games. Low risk. 2-3mil deal for 5+ years won't kill your team like a 5+ year for 6+mil deal. Nobody really complains about a middling contracts. It's the big ones that kill you.

  21. The problem with long-term contracts is being stuck with them and either hoping to trade, waive, bury, or buyout. It's very risky especially if a player falls off. Many players never come back to form. I'd be cautious no matter who the player is.

  22. Why do every talk about his numbers when he is clearly a penalty kill expert. Dont't you have any role based players in NHL?
