I do not understand the clamoring for Markstrom. He has been terrible his entire career in the playoffs just like Vanecek. They need to just forget about the year and chalk it up to injuries. They're not going anywhere this year so why waste an asset? Yes goaltending is an issue and needs to change but the defense is awful as well. Run it back next year with the same group and go from there next year.
If there was a 26-year-old elite goaltender ready to sign or trade for a long-term contract, then it's something to consider. But all these goalies are 3435 right around there and they're not this supreme talent that you see. Once every 5th generation. Granted you cannot expect to land somebody like that, but the price that they would pay two land. A good goalie not even a great goalie. An average goalie is way too high right now. I am not a fan of VTech. Even last season when he had a pretty decent season, he still tried to flip around and do snow angels to make saves and he looked rattled very easily. Whereas schmid looks more confident. Granted he's not doing great either this year. Dawes, looks like he might be the man if he continues to excel and grow as he has been. All these things take time goalies take longer to develop
