  1. The beer drinker guy: spends all day picking what fly gear to use. Gets to his spot. fishes for 2 minutes and drinks beer the rest of the evening staring at the water

  2. What about the Native? You don’t see us, because there aren’t that many of us.😎

  3. I’m a weird hybrid of streamer guy (except I refuse to say “bruh” and I will never own a “sex dungeon” 🙄…except for the one in my basement…) and blue line guy. Small streams and small muddler minnows…nymphing is a boring last resort BUT dry fly fishing is the greatest thing on earth. This all stems from having grown up on woolly buggers and brook trout. Your early experiences really dictate the trajectory of your development

  4. What about the perfect cast guy. He just busts out perfect loops time after time but the fly is wrong, the depth is wrong the presentation is wrong, but those loops, hoowee.

  5. Holy Shi+….. How did you know? I don’t own waders, I literally have a flask I use specifically for my fishing outings, I prefer Eagle Rare and 4 Roses single barrel bourbon. I use nothing but a click and pawl reel, fiberglass rod and a DP Cortland Peach 444 fly line. However I don’t cast with my pinky in the air. I didn’t choose the dry fly life, it chose me. It’s a blessing and a curse, I know I should use different methods of angling but I’d rather not. I time and chase the hatches throughout the year and that can also be a curse as well. 😂

  6. Lake fly fishing guy is a stereotype for sure. Bass boat, 12 foot deep midges, attitude of a cop

  7. What about the guy whose been fishing on and off for 60 years with garage sale equipment because he fished with dad, grandpa and great granpap and really just wants to get away from smart phones?

  8. im a huge fly tyer and fly fisherman myself and you had me nailed in a couple of those streotypes you were making my wife crack up as she kept saying thats you honey. good job im to much gear guy since i have over 60.000 hours behind my vice and cary over three thousand flies on me when i go out fly fishing. well anyways funny video with some hidden truth in it for sure.

  9. I knew a real deal guy in the mountains, he was missing most the fingers on his left hand, folded up his 40 year old rod with the line still on it and could unfold it in a snap, and he could absolutely destroy those mountain streams.

  10. Looks like there is plenty of similarities between…guy in fly fishing and …guy in other activities.
The 'perpetual novice' (or even perpetual beginner) is definitely a thing.
I mostly surf. And there are plenty of guys that make it to can kinda actually surf phase
And then stay there for years/decades.
Other probably universal stereotypes are the "Topper". Where ever you went and however good it was he was somewhere else that was waaay better.
Always the "back in the day" guy. Like the topper but uses time.
"Modern primitive" or "retro" guy. Getting back to the roots by using old/classic/antique gear. Or crazy expensive modern remakes of the classics.
    "Too Cool" guy.
"Pioneer/trail blazer" guy. Dude that went some where first before the crowds ruined it.
    Also come to mind

  11. Fn hilarious. I used to be Euro nymph guy, now Im streamer junkie guy dreaming of becoming a Spey Master….Ooooommmmmm

  12. Gear Guy here, I don't need the newest anything though. I just like to have everythiing I need. First aid, medications, emergency toiletries, a few snacks, etc, etc. It depends on location but hey, if it is already in my bag, Im not taking it out.

  13. I can relate to the "Permit guy", having caught a few by spending day after day of no fish, it can become a quest. They are the only fish that leads me to drink beer before the sun comes up to steady my nerves on the off chance I will see some tailing or pushing on the flats.

  14. Yoooo. So I know this guy, who knows this other, and that guy thinks he's a HUGE flyfisherman!!!! He's got some old GL2 7'6" that he won't put down. Some real turd of a real too. Some Argentina mad piece of junk. Only catching dinks with that set up.

  15. Damn I figured I’d fall somewhere on the list. Florida guy mainly fish saltwater but love hitting up lakes and rivers. 3 years in still only have one fly rod and it’s fairly budget who am I.

  16. Does a double count if the one on the attractor got off 1/2 of a second from the net? 2 14"hen rainbows .18 flashback pheasant tail trailing a 14 renegade. When you can be somewhat sure you did everything right! Enjoy your day Ben.

  17. I got several really😂great laughs today….thank you for sharing….. been fly fishing since 1997 and did 10 plus years of teaching fly casting (2007 – 2020)….seen all these stereotypes but you nailed them so good!😊

  18. One more stereotype: Lifer Dude has been fishing since they were 4 years old and just wants to fish; he might not have the best cast, best gear, and doesn't know what fly he is using, but it catches fish and doesn't care, just wants to fish.

  19. Funny! I am a 72 year old Blue Line Guy fishing vintage glass who is just waiting for my inevitable near-fatal fall. Your Gear Guy sounds pretty close to those I refer to a Doctor Orvis. Enjoyed this a lot!
