Jim Rutherford on his Contract Extension with the Canucks

“We still have big goals ahead and work to do, but we do feel that we’re starting to build a structure of a team and that the players have bought in to the team concept, that we’re on the right road to be able to accomplish that.”

President of Hockey Operations, Jim Rutherford, speaks on his contract extension with the #Canucks and his goals for the team’s future.

  1. It's funny how quickly you can go back and forth from being a villain to a hero in this town. It's understandable. The team hasn't won anything in almost 54 years. When Jim came in, he made some difficult decisions and his handling of the Boudreau thing still isn't a good look, but there's one way to win fans over – go on a playoff run. I don't care about a Presidents Trophy. That's the kiss of death, normally. The real team trophy is handed out in June. I don't like the idea of giving up top picks and prospects for the present, especially since this is the first year they've been very good in a decade. But all I can say is, prove me wrong. In the last 10 years, I've been right and gotten no satisfaction out of it because all I care about is that the team wins. Not just in the regular season, but in the playoffs. Jim has earned this contract, so now it's time to see what the team is made of in the spring. Hopefully, they don't go overboard and sell the farm for a 1st round playoff exit, but again, show me. There's a great way to get "negative" fans to shut up – keep winning. So far, so good. Only halfway through the season, though.

  2. Happy to see he signed an extension. Jim’s a great guy was lucky enough to meet him once while he was in here in Pittsburgh. Very happy to see him and the Canucks doing well definitely pulling for you guys.

  3. All we want this spring is the Stanley Cup! That's all that matters to the fans and the city!

  4. Did anyone else roll their eyes when they heard Jim say before the season started, "If everything goes right, we should make the playoffs" ? lol… Man was he right about that.

  5. The players that have come in to insulate the core, the supporting cast of development coaches. Plus strong work ethic and game by game mentality. The Canucks are proving to be a well oiled machine capable of a deep run. Love the humble locker room too. No one's satisfied until it's just them at the top with the cup. Let's go. Working harder makes us better moving faster makes us stronger.
