GAME RECAP: Penguins at Hurricanes (01.13.24) | Bryan Rust Earns Two Points

Just before the puck dropped between the Penguins and Hurricanes in North Carolina, Noel Acciari was a late scratch – which meant that Colin White would make his Penguins debut. The 1st period did not go the Penguins’ way. Pesce and Martinook each tallied for the home team before the 10-minute mark of the period. Netminder Tristan Jarry made several huge stops to keep the Penguins in it early. The 2nd period saw both teams combine for 12 penalty minutes, but neither goalie gave up any ground. Pittsburgh came alive in the 3rd, with Jake Guentzel earning his 19th goal of the season on a one-timer set up by Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust. Rust wasn’t done on the scoresheet just yet, though. With only 53 seconds remaining in regulation, Rust’s sharp-angle top-shelf shot tied things up to send the game to overtime. In the extra frame, Pesce scored his second goal of the night, bookending this one for the Hurricanes.

  1. Damn disappointing, but obviously we got a point at least. Fantastic tying it up with the EN, but what the Hel guys??, that was a sloppy, half assed change that led to the 3 on 2 in OT, conceding the winner.
On a side note, what Gods-Awful music they play in Raleigh 😬…

  2. Still some fighting spirit to come back and go to OT that wasn't there last year, but…

  3. weird defence. no pressure was pushed on Hurricanes' offence, especially the last goal…………

  4. It’s over for the pens Malkin needs to retire.Crosby and Letang have at least 2 years left in them but sadly not Malkin he just too slow

  5. Is it just me or the canes seemed to skate in high gear around us?! Goalie, Jarry had some awesome saves no doubt, looked like he gets beat more on his stick side than anything, what’s that mean idk just something I noticed this game.
    Next game fellas
