Nik Borchevsky plays a heavier game. Great for hockey pool but goal is the cup and he to soft for play offs. Trade him!

You never mentioned Matthews goal which was an absolute dart from the bottom of the circle. And Willy with 2 more points after signing that deal. Can't wait to see them play in winnipeg on the 27th.

People who actually don’t like Mitch Marner are absolutely idiotic to me. He is the only player I’ve ever heard of who can actually be putting up points – doing exactly what he’s supposed to be doing, and fans of his own team criticize him. That’s just insanity. He’s a special player. His skills are incredible. Wake the f#ck up people.
I like Mitch. I like Austin. I like Willy. I even like JT. But we can't afford them all. Someone's got to go, and they all have "no-move" contracts.

Nitpicking. Up 7-1 Toronto allowed a 2 on 1. HOW?! Against a good team that's not good at all. But it was delightful to see Toronto unashamedly stomp a team they should stomp. I've said for a few years, the most frustrating part about the Leafs is that if they get up a couple of goals it was almost like they were apologetic about it and would take their foot off of the gas, no matter what team they were playing. The elite teams start stomping and don't stop until the final buzzer. Keep this up. Spending most of the 3rd in the Shark's zone to defend a lead is how you should always try to defend a lead, minus the risky pinches.
I love Mitch but unfortunately there’s a cap. Matty and Willy can self produce. Mitch can’t and his contract will be up next summer. Someone needs to go so we can balance out the team under the cap. Once again still love him, but not trading him this summer for some assets the team needs would be a mistake. Imagine having RH D or a Goalie even half of Mitch’s calibre instead of him.
Islanders, Wings, Av’s, Oilers are up the next 4 games. We’ll see what’s up after that stretch! 🤞

I don’t dislike Mitchy at all. He’s a great player. There’s a reason why he’s called a magician. The problem is that if you have him, you need tougher players who are miserable to play against too. Those guys take up so much of the cap that they can’t afford enough of those playoff style players to ice a team who’s suited for playoff hockey. There’s nothing wrong with the core four aside from their salaries. It’s preventing the Leafs from balancing the skill out with hard playoff style players.

From Jan. 11 to Jan. 27 we, the fans of our beloved Leafs, will find out three things; how much tenacity, character and desire this team has to win and succeed, how monumentally important it is to sign Mitch Marner and keeping the three elite players we have together and finally, what else this team needs. Defensemen, goalie, new coach or nothing but a couple or three tough guys that can create fear. Go Leafs Go.

Leafs were gifted three lousy opponents to start the New Year, plus one that is on a skid right now ( Los Angeles ), so 8 points wasn't a stretch. They made Jones look like Georges Vezina ( which he ain't btw ). The real test comes Thursday and moving forward from there. It's obvious the Leafs are trying to hang on until the saviour arrives, Joseph ( CALL ME ) WAHHHLLLL. Won't matter. Pussy cat teams won't arrive for another month or so, so enjoy your recent 8 points. But in April, you will end up in the same place you have been for the past 4 years, either second or third, having to play either/or Boston and WE WANT FLORIDA ! Who btw are winning games as well, Florida 8 in a row against stiff competition btw, unlike the Leafs last four opponents, and the Bruins who are still 7 points ahead of you. All the back-patting going on now and yakking on how great Marner is won't mean squat as soon as they revert to form and start losing games. You heard it here first Laff fans.

Mitch Marner needs an epiphany. He excels at the skills part of hockey – what does he do about the dumb ox part? He spends a lot of time picking himself off the ice. His " hits are more like friendly hellos. Absorbing a hit to make a play is rare. Bulling his way to the net to score is non existant . Mitch is a brilliant player who needs more muscle to keep in the play longer and also to prevent those passes to no one that he makes to avoid being hit ( talk to Sidney Crosby ). He also needs to score more goals; goals are worth more than assists. Nylander is worth more than Marner for that reason alone. Being more of a scoring threat opens up more ice for Mathews. Passing to Knies once in a while when he is open for a shot might be a good idea for "spreading the floor." I love Mitch. I hope he has the epiphany. ( NOTE Doug Gilmour was small and played huge )

I agree with you Steve a lot of the talk around Mitch Marner is toxic but to be honest Marner's Dad low key deserves it. The guy is a major asshole being one of those toxic hockey Dad's when Mitch was a kid and if you remember he even hijacked the Marner negotiations and is probably the main reason those negotiations went the way they did. Seeing that shot of him with just a dead pan look on his face when Tavares got his 1000th career point is just so on brand for the guy.

I think Marner at a twin contract as Nylander is more than fair for both sides. If they are both locked up at 11.5 it would work.
