  1. He will score 50 in 50. Then he will go on and score 43 in the final 30 games, surpassing Gretzky 92 goals in a season

  2. You’re forgetting the physics and dynamics of the game ,, he’s got a big long body a lot of velocity on his shots ,,, he needs to get nasty out there too don’t be so easy to take out of games ,, he needs to tuffen up for playoff hockey he can’t handle the ruff stuff and when players focus more on taking away ice with the body

  3. He missed 2 games so far and also went 10 games without a goal this season as well…lol….

Could easily be at 32-38 goals in 30 games. Insane.

The year he scored 60, he hit 26 goals in the last 3rd of January. Very interested to see where he’ll end…

  4. His biggest skill is his ability to shoot the puck where the goalie isn't. It seems like everything he throws at the net goes right through the goalie.

  5. He’ll get to 600 goals easy, but it’s outlandish to say he will get to Ovi territory. Only 3 player in history have had 800 goals and Matthews isn’t putting up video game numbers

  6. I like to get rid of the puck quick too. Just like Matthews. I had a hat trick last week against Al's Heating and Aluminum Siding.

  7. I really hope he finally lights it up in the playoffs. A guy with this kind of talent can't dissappear every time it really matters.

  8. Im a toronto fan and love to watch him but i am worried about his longevity.

He is torqing that stick a ridiculous.

Pay close attention to the goals he has scored this year and last year. Youll notice they arent the same goals since the start of his career.

Where is his toe drage release? That was his beead and butter most seasons when he started and its a shot that the great conner bedard has imitated.

The way he would oull the stick in and torque the srick for the shot couldnt have been healthy for his wrists. Its akin to taking a wash cloth and wringing it out as hard as you possibly can 500 times a day.

Kudos to matthews and his intelligence for developping new ways to score. Matthews' forst 3 or 4 seasons he hardly ever threw one timers but after wrist surgery on both his wrists he has been clappin em alot more

  9. Deflections / unorthodox shots, but you said orthodox multiple times shots. Did you mean his shots are orthodox or not?

  10. Just woke up and was surprised to see how much traction this video has gotten. Still battling a cold but thank you for everyone for watching

P.S. – Yes I know I said Orthodox instead of unorthodox, but wanted to get the video up before I fell back asleep lol

  11. Great vid, my only addition would be his ability to change the angle of his shot by toe dragging, kind of his bread and butter on the release

  12. He's a prolific scorer, no debate there, but he just doesn't excite me for some reason. I get to watch most, if not all, his games. It's probably because he scores them so often and so effortlessly that doesn't inspire awe. His peers obviously knows what his capabilities are and I"m "Just a fan" but when I see guys like Kucherov, Stamkos, McDavid, and some others score, it is exhilarating. OV is kind of in the same realm in terms of linearity scoring. He did it with ease and more often than not, in the same manner. Bedard seems to have molded his game after these new crops of players who have blindingly quick releases and often from very odd postures. I guess it takes getting used to. The game is certainly a far cry from the one I grew up watching as a kid when guys like McCinnis and Brett Hull would do a full 180 arc before releasing their slapper. The goalie knew it was coming as did everyone, including the guy getting his hot dog and coke from the mobile snack guy, so when it beats the goalie, it's one hell of an accomplishment. These days, you need to watch and rewatch replays to see how that shot was taken and how it went in.

  13. What's even better is that his defensive game is just as good. Not sure what the stats are, but he is incredible in his own end and during the transition back towards Toronto ice.

  14. He’s a good goal scorer, but doesn’t seem to have what it takes to bring a team to a good playoff run. I know it’s a team game, but with a forward group as talented as Toronto’s, it’s really concerning how little success they’ve had in post season

  15. I’ve noticed that the majority of the very top of the top tier players usually have that sixth sense regarding the relationship between geometry and motor skills. A combination of general and fine motor skills, like they say about making your stick another limb, make it part of you, the best players go beyond that some. They have almost a sixth sense connection to their game environment and a natural efficiency, intent and fluidity to their movements. Usually their hand eye coordination is miles better than the average player too.

  16. In 8 of 8 playoffs – why has Matthews been a playoff disappointment when it comes to zero playoff runs? For about $77 Million spent by the Leafs over almost a decade – at least JT was one playoff elimination game winning goal! Will Matthews ever score a playoff series winning goal – to score when it really matters? At least he is a one time 60 goal scorer over the first half of his career to date.

  17. Regardless, save the celebrations for after the game is won. Individual achievements mean very little in the grand scheme of things

  18. I'm a Leafs and Matthews fan…and I don't think he'll have more than Ovechkin. He's already had a couple sub-40 seasons because of injuries. He MIGHT reach 800-820 goals…which would still put him 3rd or 4th all time.
