Wonder if his career is over as a star player. I hope not. As a Canes fan his situation was one of the most heartbreaking ones I have seen on this team. Glad we moved on but I wish all the best for a class act.

He looked like he was still good before he got hurt the 2nd time
Part of the caps problem right now is that they’ve got a bunch of old snipers that aren’t very quick or mobile and don’t play both ways. I mean when Ovi is essentially a less-fragile Patches right now, you can expect that they’re going to have a hard time finding a place to slot Patches in.
I didn’t watch the game so idk if he passes the eye test or not and I don’t want to just call him washed. But we brought him in to play a specific role that we didn’t already have filled. For how cheap he is right now, I can understand the caps taking a chance on him, but from the beginning I really failed to see how he was going to help that team aside from being a depth piece.
If Patches is gonna continue to hang around the league, he’s going to need to work himself into a younger team like Buffalo or Anaheim where he can be a locker room leader and let the fresh, fast skaters do the heavy lifting for him. He’d have a better time as the office sniper and passtermind of a team like that than as Great Value Ovi on the caps.
I agree we made the right call and it was too big of a risk to bring him back but also…the tone of that article is pretty fatalistic. It was one game, on a new team/system, after not playing for a full calendar year. Neither he nor the Caps nor their fans should throw in the towel just because his first game back was a struggle. Give the guy some time to adjust, geez.
I don’t understand the point of this article. I thought I was going to read that he got injured again.. but it’s just commenting that he didn’t score in his first game back. Like, okay? This seems extremely too soon to make any comments about his play. Svech didnt score for, what, 16 games after he came back?
I think he can still come back. I don’t necessarily have super high hopes he will, but I’m not going to make that assement after a single game lol
Like this author is gonna feel awkward if Patches manages to score on us tomorrow.
