Connor Clifton Postgame Interview vs Ottawa Senators (12/31/2023)
Many Deon made some good saves on many of them but what led to so many outnumbered situations do you feel like two on ones three three on two that kind of stuff bad decisions um I think we’ve been trying to be aggressive as D and
You know when we get that you know when we get that F3 high in the track it’s okay to go there right because if something happens they chip it out they don’t get that two onone obviously you know I think it’s just reads on us it’s
You know we’re the last guys back so you know if you’re not going to get the puck obviously you don’t want to be giving up two on ones um and it was a lot of that tonight we gave up a lot of chances and obviously you know didn’t didn’t score
Enough on the other end it seemed like early you guys had some of your better chances I mean you guys I thought played really well to start this game and and really had some good opportunities I’m sure you’re thinking if you put one or two of those in it’s a whole different
Hockey game right for sure um you know sometimes you run into a hot goalie and you know we got to you know get to the inside more um when he’s seeing it obviously he was seeing it he was making some great saves and you know we did
Have a lot of chances um you know sometimes we just got to get that you know pushing back in his crease and you know get some get some net front goals obviously one would have helped you know end or started the second period there to two two1 at the time so would have
Tied it up and would have been a different game what was the mentality here the first intermission it was a tough first period at times you get that late goal and it’s only two to one yeah it was exactly that keep it up I thought our energy was really good in the first
Honestly obviously we gave up those goals the pp goal um but I think you know it’s just just giving up too too many chances especially when we’re not scoring you know the way we can in that room I know there are different reasons why the other team scores on the power play but
How can you guys get your confidence back we know you can kill penalties you did at the beginning of the year we’re one of the best teams in the league now right now it seems like you guys have lost a little bit of confidence in it
How can you get that back I think yeah it’s one of those things obviously a good a good PK can win games um I you look at the Boston game we give up three right we lose 4-1 without all three PP goals it’s it’s a tie game you know
We’re going overtime um obviously we got to be better we’re going to you know watch it and and figure out ways to to kill plays earlier and not give them all the Zone time where they have time in space and they’re threading the passes across for one time like you know I I
It’s just on us you know we got to be better and I think it’s as simple as that honestly lock it back in and you know move forward you’ve spent the last couple years trying to defend this team and last year they became one of the top
Five teams in the league in goals I mean is it I how weird is it to think that struggle to score goals even with all the chances you guys get right um yeah I don’t know uh we’re going to figured out and you know we got a
Obviously this would have been a a big win for our group um we we got to find a way to grind and Claw back to 500 and then we can start doing damage um obviously the goals thing it’s they’re going to come and you know it’s I hope it’s going to be next
Game you know all the chances we’re getting and like I said that the the goalie over there played really well tonight and you know we couldn’t put it by him but we got to find a way to you know be harder in front and you know sometimes just force it in
