Watching footage from the glory days of sports and seeing what these guys endured and learning how low their salaries actually were and everything they did to make these sports the spectacle they were is far more interesting to me than watching these spoiled ass athletes get paid to play a very much pampered version of these sports. Don't get me wrong they wear helmets and more gear for a reason now and obviously the training has gotten far more intense, like they have that down to a science now but, just look how free formed Hockey used to be no bullshit advertisements everywhere you look the attention was strictly on the players and the game and that's it. It touches the human spirit when you see something being done in its purest form and I believe Bobby Orr was doing just that, playing hockey in it's purest form. Unfortunately sports are not like that anymore its just become a huge business especially if your a Leaf's fan getting gouged every time you want to see a live game
I will say one thing in defense of the goalies. They only look bad because this hi-lite real is of only goals. So it skews perspective. There can be a hi-lite real of great Goalie saves.
But really the NHL goalies were top notch given the era, the quality of the skates, and gear including the weight of the equipment etc.
I was a kid watching hockey in the 70's here and trust me many an exceptional goalie played in the NHL.

imagine gretzky with bobby orrs skates on his feet//////////gretzky wuld skate around like a donkey……….thats why orr is the goat……….even with clown boots orr skates circles around gretzky………..imagine orr as a young little kid skating outdoor pond learning to skate with todays elite pair of skates….its scary thinking how freakin it would be like/////////imagine bobby orrs feet finding its balance in them new elite skate design…….. imagine a bobby orr who was even more of a greater threat on ice……bobby orrs old skates skating circles around gretzkys new skates…hehe/////////////
How the hell did he do it ? had to watch one play four times to see him score from the corner, and don’t know he even did that ,impossible shot not even at the right angle . And a defenseman at that , the best to ever play the game still !
The only that killed a 2 minute penalty by himself he went back end to end and had players trailing him nobody could catch him he was greater than Gretzky
Bobby Orr, the first defensive man, that was an office of thread in the game of hockey, the very first one, when he would take a puck from behind his net, and take it all the way to the other end, and put it in the net and if you just didn’t know what to do with him back in those days, cause most defensive men didn’t cross that line and he was the first guy that would start from one in and bring it all the way to the other end and pop it in the neck

The goalies back then were glorified pylons.
Nothing against Bobby but having twigs in net sure helps.
The greatest player of all time
Orr loves Trump, so he is disowned by Canadians 🖕
Bruno that was awesome! Thank You

Amazing just amazing.
Orr was 50yrs ahead of his time, and a humble guy.
The best there ever was,the only way they could stop him was to take his knees out, which they did.
He looks more of today's player …
what do you call that man? well you don`t call him floating Nylander that`s for sure
amount of games played being defence and he was hit alot my favorite
Amazing
The GREATEST PERIOD!!!

He’s the greatest player ever
To this longtime fan the sound of those announcers is like it was yesterday!
Don Cherry called Bobby, "GOD", nobody played defense like Bobby, absolutely incredible player..
way better than Gretzky-get off the BS!the greatest superstar of all time in any sport!
Those were the good old days of hockey.
His ability to control the puck and skate smooth as glass was amazing.

When I was a kid I was a huge fan of Ken Dryden, always hated seeing Orr come in with the puck nobody stopped him
Great hockey player? …yes no doubt about it….He strongly supports Trump!….I question his intelligence
I remember skating with him at Kelly Pond in Wellesley Mass, he was there with his wife and child

He endorsed a lunatic for POTUS in 2020.
I had the pleasure of seeing Orr play for a number of years. I have always thought him to be the greatest hockey player ever.
I think the Red Wings needed unis with a smaller logo.
Hell of a nice guy too! God bless you bobby!
