I’m not sure the Leafs will make it into the playoffs without Woll. They need consistency to make it into the playoffs.
Get rid of robertson and maybe another guy for a productive right handed defenseman and one just above average defenseman (no offense to him just an example) make jones the starter. Better defense and for the goaltending bring up the ahl goalie, sammy needs a mental break
Rubbish, this loss is entirely on Samsonov. Only way Samsonov gets a W is if Leafs limit the chance/shots to under 5. What team does that? Anything other than laying the entire debacle at Sammy's feet is just more kicking the Leafs when they're down, by a hater. 100% Samsonov, Blue Jackets had 4 goals on 11 shots after 2 periods. 11 shots over 2 entire periods – how is that poor play on the Leafs part?
What is Samsonov's GAA right now? I'm curious because I can't remember the last game he didn't give up 5 or more goals
Yeah okay 😂😂 I bet you think Gardiner was also Leafs best defender this was 100% Goalies fault only 11 shots 4 goals and 2 of the 4 were from the blue line, I will admit the 4th goal was terrible defence but that’s the only time I’d argue they were terrible, I will admit defence needs work but goalie is first!!
Okay, Sammy has been bad, obviously; we want some saves here, BUT let's just look at it goal by goal.
1st goal = Lilly blows a tire, giveaway scramble screens Sammy, good shot = goal.
2nd goal = 3 on 1 from a bad change
3rd goal = screen 4v3 tip
4th goal = 3 leafs behind the net, an open guy alone in front
5th goal = Sammy wants that back
6th goal = cheating offence in OT and bad faceoff leads to player alone up front and a goal
You have a goalie that's fighting it , but make him face easy shots so he finds his confidence. The 5th goal is what happens when your struggling goalie is given no help so he has no confidence to make an easy save IMO. This team needs a defensive or head coach change cause we look bad
Demote Sammy to the minor. He will tell you this is good for him. He is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Call up Dennis Hildeby. He's ready for a backup.

their defense isn't great, but you're mistake prone when you feel that you can't give up another shot in net because there is ZERO confidence that your goalie can bail you out. so when try extra hard to not make mistakes, guess what? you make more.

That goal by Fantilli was world class Austin Matthews, Bedard type toe drag release hidden release point, hard to predict and so that one is generally a goal in the NHL, the one that rolled down his back, he got a piece of it and no goalie would have stopped it from rolling down his back…. yeah the poor D doesnt hold weight in this game…kept to 11 shots in 2 periods and end the game with 17 blocked shots to cbj's 21 shots. sammy is the worst 15+ game started slump since the 90's.
The Habs made it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals with bad defence and a mediocre team. Difference was they had an elite goalie. Alot of "top" teams are that.
Agreed you can protect Samsonov's feelings all you want. No team is perfect, every team is going to give up high danger chances…it is the NHL…which is why there are NHL calibre goalies to make some of those saves. Put any league average goalie in last night and the score is 5-2 with 19 shots against and we are talking about a solid all around effort by the Leafs.
