Backstrom failed doping test because of allergy medicine | Sochi 2014
Nicklas Backstrom returned to training with the Washington Capitals on Tuesday, after failing a doping test at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Backstrom spoke about his Sochi experience and being accused of doping during the Winter Olympic games:
“Well I got back yesterday morning. It’s been a couple of tough days. I mean you miss an Olympic final, something you don’t want to do. You may not have that chance again in your career. So it’s very sad and disappointing.”
“I have had allergies for seven years – since I got here. Everyone who lives in the Washington area knows how bad it is here and it’s been following me. I’ve been taking Zyrtec-D for the last seven years. I haven’t been doing anything differently. I’ve been playing internationally – the World Championships, the Olympics before. So I haven’t done anything differently than before.”
“I take one pill every day for my allergies.” Q. Were you following the doctor’s instructions? “Absolutely.” Who do you blame for this situation? “Who do I blame? Well I followed the doctor’s recommendation.”

To be honest, this was bullshit. he should have been allowed to play as far as I can tell but I do not think it would have made any difference in the final. Canada was too good to be stopped.
A player can't even take allergy pills, pathetic…
you have to have the mentality of a 12 year old fanboy to think that elite level athletes dont use performance enhancing drugs, all elite athletes are on steroids ALL of them. Nicky backstrom didnt do anything wrong no one should be calling him a cheater.
