Three Names the Dallas Stars NEED to Look at as Potential Trade Targets

With the Dallas Stars having a few days off, on today’s episode of Locked On Stars Joey gives three names the Stars should look at as potential trade targets. Of course, a lot of is dependent on cap space and what the Stars can provide, is Ty Dellandrea, Nils Lundkvist or Jani Hakanpaa expendable? The three names are three defensemen, Sean Walker from Philadelphia, Chris Tanev from Calgary who has recently suffered and injury and finally Brett Pesce from Carolina. These three players have multiple things in common, number one they are right shot defensemen which the Stars desperately and number two play a more defensive style of game which could really help add some depth to the Stars D core that is very thin. Then Joey provides an update about the Texas Stars who are currently in first place in the Central Division and holster the two leading scorers in the league with Logan Stankoven and Mavrik Bourque. Who knows, with the potential of the Stars having to make some moves in order to be a real contender, maybe Stankoven and Bourque will get some time in the NHL down the stretch. Finally, Jamie Benn recorded his 500th career assist on Miro Heiskanen’s power play goal on Monday as he continues to climb franchise leaderboards. Joey reflects on his time with the Stars and how much of an impact he has had besides questions about his contract.

  1. Send as many fringe guys away as you can for a R Dman and then bring up the young studs.

    But….who wants our scrubs???

  2. Why not bring up a defenseman from the Texas Stars that’s R handed?? It could be the cheaper move to make but it needs to be someone relatively young. What’s the difference between a AHL player and an NHL player in terms of skill and ability?? Whoever it is it’s gonna come down to the money 💰.

  3. This list is some we may not mind losing for risk-benefit.

Mason Marchment – I love Mush, but he draws penalties at a larger rate and is "expendable" not to mention he costs us 4.5 million.

Ty Dellandrea – I like Ty, we just don't know if he'll pan out, where he'll fit, and has value on the trade market, plus 900 thousand off our payroll.

Evgenii Dadonov- Daddy is good but for his numbers, 2.25 million is a lot to be paying him.

I'm still high on Nils and believes he can become the defenseman we want him to be, but he also costs us 925,000 in cap space and becomes an RFA after this year.

Love to hear your thoughts Joey

  4. I would say expendable players are Dadanov, Faksa/Ty, Hakanpaa, Sutter, Lindel, Lundqvist. If you can find someone to take some of those contracts is another matter.

  5. the Stars desperately need a defenseman who can play good solid defense in his own and end and not turn the puck over constantly or make positional mistakes as has been the case this season. It really doesnt matter to me at this point its no longer a want for them it is a NEED. And they NEED to make a move NOW. If they have to give up a young player like Ty or a veteran like Marchment then so be it, sometimes the bigger picture has to be seen and neither of the aformentioned are "irreplaceable" guys. Nill has made some really good moves over the last few years with the exception of Suter. Nils obviously isn't going to be what they thought he was so he could be moved too but the return on him won't be as good. It will be an interesting month for sure because everyone can see they need more help on the back end. You cannot ask your goaltender to stand on his head every game and they ask alot of the Goalies in this system already.
